Second Houston-area man
confirmed dead in Algeria

Houston Chronicle, by Harry R. Weber & Dan Wallach

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/22/2013 8:52:07 AM

The State Department on Monday identified a second Houston-area resident as among the Americans killed during the hostage siege at an Algerian oil field. A spokewoman said Victor Lynn Lovelady was killed in the siege — dashing the hopes of family members who said last week they were told Lovelady, 57, was alive but still being held hostage. His brother, Michael Lovelady of Nederland near Beaumont, told the Beaumont Enterprise Monday morning that the family received preliminary notification on Saturday that Victor Lovelady was dead.

How can these things keep happening? Didn´t Obama say we had them on the run?
No compassion for the families of those being killed but all kinds of support for the gal that said employers should provide insurance that supported birth control and abortion.
He talks out of both sides of his mouth. Swear on a bible, profess to be a christian, says he prays, and advocate abortion because he don´t want one of his daughters to be in a position where she could not abort if she chose.
If you die when your heart stops then there is life at the first heartbeat. It is not a dead blob of flesh.

Just a couple of Texas oil guys. This won´t get any sympathy from the White House or the Democrats.

Condolences to their families.

The litany of frighteningly stupid Common Core math worksheets never ends. Perhaps now, though, kids are starting to fight back in satisfyingly creative ways. An alert reader sent The Daily Caller this image of her seven-year-old son’s perfectly reasonable homework answer. The boy attends a public elementary school in San Jose, Calif. He is in the second grade. (Photo) The math curriculum used by the school is GO Math! The publisher of GO Math! is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The parent who sent the homework question to TheDC noted that the curriculum aligns with the Common Core math standards. “If you look closely

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - A 4.8 earthquake shook the northern part of Yellowstone National Park early Sunday. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports the earthquake occurred at 6:34 a.m. about 4 miles north-northeast of the Norris Geyser Basin. The university reports it was felt in the Montana border towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner, both about 20 miles from the epicenter. There were no immediate reports of damage. There are few visitors in the park this time of year. Yellowstone sees frequent small earthquakes. Since Thursday, there have been at least 25 recorded in the nation´s first national

A new political advocacy group has teamed up with former Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) to argue that the economic inequality agenda of Senate Democrats is a loser with swing voters. That may be why some centrist Democrats facing uphill campaign battles have kept their distance from the Democratic leadership’s agenda items. The group, Each American Dream, which has a starter budget of $1 million, has commissioned a poll showing that 67 percent of swing voters believe expanding businesses and creating jobs is the best strategy for reducing economic inequality, not raising the minimum wage. Fifty-nine percent of swing voters said

I didn’t set out to become Twitter famous in Saudi Arabia. As a senior White House reporter for POLITICO, I’ve traveled all over the country and the world with President Barack Obama, touching down in Air Force One on one unremarkable tarmac after another to record his arrival. I seldom find them noteworthy — and, as an infrequent tweeter, rarely ever share-worthy.But Riyadh was different. A stunning display of Saudi guards awaited Obama at the airport Friday in perfect formation, swords in hand and scarves on their head. So I did something I don’t normally do: I tweeted the photos.

Obamacare Enrollment Deadline

WASHINGTON — LeBron James wants you to sign up for health coverage under Obamacare. So do Magic Johnson and Jonah Hill’s mom. Monday is (sort of) the deadline for Americans without employer-provided health coverage to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act — the White House extended it so that anyone who’s begun to sign up by Monday can still complete the process by April 7 — and the final enrollment numbers will be an important test for a law intended to expand access for the uninsured. It’ll also be a test for the White House’s high-octane sales

If a Christian man marries an atheist woman, and they name their child Noah after the Biblical hero, is Noah a Christian? It takes a great deal more than words to be a Christian, or even to truthfully call oneself religious; but in Hollywood, where superficiality rules, spirituality is like an all-access pass, no Biblical understanding required. Apparently, Paramount Studios caught wind of all the hullabaloo about how the American public is clamoring for faith-based films. They got a Christian producer and a first-rate, albeit atheist, director, and the project was quickly green-lighted. However, as the saying goes, the devil

GREECE, N.Y.- At their most recent monthly meeting, the five members of the Greece Town Board took their seats, gaveled to order and moved quickly through the regular opening agenda: Roll Call. (Check.) Pledge of Allegiance. (Check.) Moment of Prayer. (Check.) Leaders of this town of 96,000 outside Rochester say they have no plans to shake up the longtime routine unless, of course, the U.S. Supreme Court orders them to. A ruling could come any day now on whether the town violated the Constitution with its opening prayers because nearly every one in an 11-year span was overtly Christian. This

Well, I suppose everything comes with a few unintended consequences, as reported by Rare. Northwestern University became the first school in the nation to deem its football players full-time employees, thus making them eligible for union representation and health insurance benefits including maternity coverage. Vice President Joseph R. Biden asked Americans Saturday to confront lawmakers who oppose raising the federal minimum wage. “Ask your representatives who oppose raising the federal minimum wage—why do they oppose it?” Mr. Biden said in the White House weekly address. “There’s no reason in the world why an American working 40 hours a week has to live in poverty.” President Obama is waging an election-year push with congressional Democrats to boost the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour. Many Republican lawmakers oppose the action, pointing to a study that the move would eliminate about 500,000 jobs

All of us have read hundreds of blog articles and thousands of comments made in passing by co-workers, family, friends and the occasional total stranger that allude to the Obama administration and it’s resemblance to George Orwell’s seminal work, 1984. There have even been references to Orwell’s 1984 in columns published in the normally slavishly supportive main stream media, which are always easy to identify since the White House normally describes them as “hit pieces.” Orwellian descriptions of totalitarianism

After a disastrous presidential campaign in 2012, can Texas Governor Rick Perry mount a credible bid for the White House in 2016? Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on a media tour touting the theme that America is a great place for second chances, specifically second chances for Texas governors with national ambitions. Perry is trying to erase the memory of his disastrous 2012 GOP presidential campaign which included “brain-farts” and “oops” debate moments with his folksy, charming, and uniquely American manner. Curious about Perry’s comeback strategy, I asked Texan and GOP presidential media guru, Mark McKinnon and he said,

A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

The past couple of weeks have marked a turning point in American ugliness as the mob has turned its full fury on first lady Michelle Obama. From criticism of her trip to China to a recent “tell-all” by former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin in the New Republic about Obama’s allegedly tyrannical behavior, the gloves have been removed. As described, she was a perfectionist — super-attentive to detail and laser-focused on advance planning. And this is bad because? Worse, according to a former (anonymous) staffer, there was no barometer for meeting Obama’s high standards. “The first lady having

The buffet tables were loaded with various forms of edible vegetable matter, but there was no meat, fish or cheese — because director Darren Aronofsky is vegan, as was the hero of his biblical epic, as played by Russell Crowe. To underscore the point in the movie, which also stars Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly, villain Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone) eagerly bites the head off an unidentified reptile and devours it raw. Obamacare supporters are taking a bit of a victory lap today after yesterday’s administration announcement that six million people have signed up for private plans under the law, equaling the revised projection put out by the Congressional Budget Office after the botched launch of the exchanges last October. It’s a weak cause for celebration, given that success, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, was originally "at least" seven million people getting covered under the law by the end of March. And as an Obamacare factoid, the six million sign-ups figure just doesn’t tell us all that much

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

And Obama, he said Wednesday in his Manhattan office, knew full well he was lying when he promised that the Affordable Care Act would allow Americans to keep insurance plans they liked. ´He had to know he was misleading the audience,´ Kerrey said
