CNN reporter writes letter to Santa

Daily Caller, by Jim Treacher

Wait, no, not Santa Claus. What’s the name of the other jolly fellow who hands out free toys and candy to everyone as if by magic, and only the emotionally stunted believe in him? Oh yeah, that’s right: President Barack Obama. I had never heard of Tom Foreman before today, but that’s only because he’s on CNN. For whatever reason, the network has allowed him to admit the following on their “news” site: Inauguration Day will signal the culmination of an effort I launched on January 20, 2009, to write a letter

"Whether a Democrat or Republican fills that office, answering to the needs of 311 million people is a magnificent and daunting challenge, let alone answering their letters."

This sentence epitomizes the absurdity of liberalism.

Two of the most pressing concerns on Capitol Hill are 1) finding a way to restore cuts in veterans´ pensions that were included in the budget deal brokered by Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Paul Ryan; and 2) figuring out a plan to pay for extended emergency unemployment insurance for 1.3 million Americans whose benefits have run out. They are vexing problems, but Republicans, led by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, came up with a proposal to solve them. The only difficulty was, the solution -- finding billions to pay for the restored pensions and unemployment insurance -- involved cracking down on

The FBI finally has begun to contact some of the tea party groups targeted by the Internal Revenue Service for inappropriate scrutiny and delays, in the first public signs that the administration’s criminal investigation is progressing. A lawyer representing some of the tea party groups that battled the IRS for tax-exempt status told The Washington Times that a “small number” of his clients were contacted seven months after the investigation was supposed to have begun. The progress was revealed a day after The Times reported that the Justice Department lawyer who is leading the investigation into the IRS, Barbara Kay Bosserman,

The fallout continues from the New York Times’s failed attempt to change the narrative on the Ben-ghazi attacks. The latest hit comes from an unexpected source—the Washington Post: U.S. officials suspect that a former Guantanamo Bay detainee played a role in the attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and are planning to designate the group he leads as a foreign terrorist organization, according to officials familiar with the plans. Militia-men under the command of Abu Sufian bin Qumu, the leader of Ansar al-Sharia in the Libyan city of Darnah, participated in the attack that killed U.S. Ambassador J.

Relations between the United States and India have crashed to their lowest ebb since the last millennium, something many Americans might have missed during the holiday buzz. A spat over the treatment of a diplomat and her maid threatens the foundations of a key international partnership, and the implications extend far beyond foreign policy. This case could endanger American diplomats, businesspeople and tourists travelling abroad. The fight began with the December arrest of Devyani Khobragade, India’s Deputy Consul in New York. Khobragade, a young mother accused of under-paying her maid and making a false statement on a visa form, says

This week marks the 50th anniversary of Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty,” and as the joke goes, “Poverty won.” Five decades after a blizzard of programs began descending on the American people, the poverty rate remains essentially unchanged. That’s a little unfair. What counts as poverty today would not have seemed so impoverished 50 years ago, when many of the poor lived without electricity and were no strangers to hunger.(Snip)The UBI is a pretty simple idea. Everyone gets a check from the government. (Actually, it’s a little more complicated than that, depending on how you implement it, but you get

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and ranking member Rep. It won’t take long to read, though you might develop a headache while doing so. Essentially, young Jesse wants communism, and he wants it now. There are several wonderful takedowns of this youngster’s astounding ignorance about communism and the misery, degradation, and death that result in the countries that have attempted to force it on their people, but I’d like to address the why. Why does communism sound so lovely and appealing to teenagers and young adults? You can argue that

In the Middle East, tribal politics and insidious power grabs are par for the course. Thus, the only effective way to deal with regional hegemons like Iran is from a position of strength, not appeasement. President Obama and Secretary Kerry, however, have allowed Iran to drive the end game in Syria – and to drive America into irrelevancy. This administration’s capacity for appeasement, weakness and dysfunction with regard to foreign policy – particularly on Syria – seems to know no limits. FORT LEE, N.J. -- When Mayor Mark Sokolich´s annual Christmas card showed up in mailboxes a few weeks ago, some residents took careful note of the photo selected for the front: the steely silhouette of this borough´s treasured, and sometimes detested, George Washington Bridge - and a Revolutionary War cannon firing off a shot, as if to warn off unseen enemies who might try to threaten it. While honouring Emma Thompson at a dinner for the National Board of Review on Tuesday night, Meryl Streep made an extraordinary speech that criticised Walt Disney for being a "gender bigot" who was a member of an antisemitic lobbying organisation. Streep, perhaps Hollywood´s most respected and beloved actor, showed she is far from a cosy establishment figure as she carefully trod a line between praising Thompson and attacking Disney. The very film Thompson was being celebrated for, Saving Mr Banks, is based around Walt Disney´s persuading of PL Travers to allow him to adapt Mary Poppins. According to Variety´s Ramin Setoodeh,

Butter´s back—and with a creamy vengeance. Foodies extol its flavor. Purists praise its freedom from trans fats. Annual per capita butter consumption in the U.S. (now 5.6 pounds), has risen 25 percent in the last decade to a 40-year high, according to American Butter Institute. Europe is set to suffer more severe droughts due to climate change and increased water use, scientists have warned. By the end of the century, southern Europe in particular will have 80 per cent more droughts than at present. New research by the European Commission predicts that water shortages will be made worse by population growth and increased demand. Drought can have a serious economic and social impact and is thought to have cost Europe over €100billion (or £83billion) in the past three decades alone. Researchers used computer models to predict which parts of Europe could be worst hit by increasing temperatures and intensive
