Obama stumbles on
"states" during swearing in

Associated Press, by Staff

WASHINGTON - Chief Justice John Roberts got it right this time—but President Barack Obama appeared to stumble over the word ‘‘states’’ during his ceremonial swearing in. In front of hundreds of thousands gathered to watch, Obama stammered briefly over ‘‘states’’ as he repeated back the words ‘‘the office of president of the United States.’’ Obama had already been officially sworn in for a second term on Sunday, in accordance with the Constitution, which requires presidential terms to begin on Jan. 20.

Comments:
Because his TelePrompTer said the following: ´´All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.´´

He had it in his mind to say, "caliphate."

Happily, I missed this and am watching every good cable movie while fitting in a bit of housework - depressing, cloudy 16 degree day - fitting!

Obama did not stammer over " states " -he choked and then left it out completely.

Part of a factual statement, of which he´s never had command. No problem lying, though, when it came to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

What was all of the emphasis on using middle initials about today? Yet, Roberts began the oath of office with "I, Barack Hussein Obama ...", then the introduction by Schumer with POTUS, Barack H. Obama.

Support for the health care reform law is at its lowest point since it was enacted four years ago, according to a new poll. The Associated Press survey found that only 26 percent of Americans support the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement. Forty-three percent said they are opposed to the law. The poll was conducted online, and online polls are typically not as accurate as telephone polls. But the results nevertheless point to political peril for Democratic congressional candidates in the midterm elections, with Republicans again running against the law across the country. The results also

MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin on Friday said Russia´s takeover of Crimea showed off its military prowess, as his defence minister reported that the Russian flag was now flying over all military sites on the Black Sea peninsula. In a Kremlin ceremony with senior security officials, Sergei Shoigu told Putin that all Ukrainian servicemen still loyal to Kiev have left the Crimea region, whose annexation by Moscow has led to the worst stand-off with the West since the Cold War. "The recent events in Crimea were a serious test," Putin was shown on state television as saying in an echoing

Riga - A mournful procession of about 1,500 Latvians winds its way through Riga´s medieval Old Town singing traditional Latvian songs. Elderly World War Two veterans lead the crowd. And many of the participants are carrying flowers to lay at the Freedom Monument, Latvia´s symbol of national independence. They have come here to commemorate those who died defending Latvia against the Soviet Union in the war. But with Russian troops now in nearby Ukraine, many in the Baltics are alarmed that history may be about to repeat itself. "If Ukraine falls, then Russian ambitions won´t stop with this. I believe

Washington - The United States and Europe must stand firm in rejecting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea not just because they challenge the principles a peaceful and prosperous Europe is built on, President Obama said Wednesday in Brussels, but also because they thwart "universal values" of freedom and self-determination that stir all humanity. The president’s speech – the format Mr. Obama has favored for delivering big messages in foreign places – came at the end of a day during which the American leader visited for the first time two pillars of trans-Atlantic relations: NATO headquarters and

Video shot at a private fundraiser of Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bruce Braley that shows him belittling Republican U.S. Sen. Republican operatives on Tuesday circulated the footage of Braley at a Texas fundraiser in January warning fellow lawyers that Grassley might become the next Judiciary Committee chairman if they didn’t contribute money to help elect Braley. BRUSSELS — President Obama said Wednesday that Europe and the United States now face “a moment of testing” that challenges their unity and the international order they have worked for generations to build. In a speech Wednesday evening at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in this Belgian capital, Obama suggested that the current standoff with Russia over its incursion into Ukraine is part of a more fundamental struggle between democratic ideals and “an older, more traditional view of power.” He warned against “complacency” in the face of what he called Russia’s violations of international law in taking over Crimea. “If we

WASHINGTON — While President Obama insisted again on Tuesday that the West would not recognize the annexation of Crimea, officials in the United States and Europe have privately concluded that Crimea is lost and that the real challenge is stopping Russia from further destabilizing Ukraine. After meeting with allies in Europe and suspending Russia from the Group of 8, Mr. Obama indicated no plans for additional sanctions unless Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, makes another provocative move. Every reference to further action against Russia during a 40-minute news conference in The Hague came with conditional phrases like “if the situation

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.

She certainly knows how to draw attention to herself. Newby said that’s not all.
