Utah business owner charges liberal customers

First owner George Burnett charged liberals a dollar more than conservatives at his Vernal, Utah smoothie shop. Now, another Utah business owner--evidently inspired by that political stand--has fired two employees for supporting President Obama. And it´s all completely legal. Burnett, the owner of I Love Drilling Juice & Smoothie Bar, started charging liberals a $1 more than conservatives for his smoothies. ´They’re costing us money,´ he told The Salt Lake Tribune about his left-leaning customers. ´So it only seems fair that I charge them a little bit more.´ His menu board above the register clearly states that liberals

My husband was manager of a business in CA right after his family business closed. His boss caught him listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio in the office one day, and things were never the same. My husband was eventually fired, but he won unemployment benefits. He didn´t use them long, because he got a much better job that paid about $30k/yr. more right after that. This was during the prosperous middle of the last decade. Good times.

I sort of agree with #8. First and foremost, a business is there to make money. It doesn´t matter if it is a lemonade stand or Lockheed, the goal is the same. To alienate potential customers seems like a bad idea.
That having been said, its his business and he can run it any way he wants. If it turns out he runs it unwisely, the loss will be borne by him. We call that freedom. Too bad they dont understand that in DC.

I never spend my money with a company that is liberal - period. Back in the day in Corporate America, when I was in a position to hire professionals, I would do my best not to hire liberals under any circumstances. Why put the wolf at your back door? We know they have the integrity of bilge rats, so why have them infesting your business?

I used to roughneck on oil rigs in the Vernal area during the oil boom going on at the time. They pretty much play by their own rules in the small towns around there. Some of the young, bored, rowdy locals were fond of roughing up hippies that made the mistake of stopping by on their way through Vernal. They sometimes left with a lot less hair than they arrived with.

"I Love Drilling Juice & Smoothie Bar"

Great name !

I had breakfast one Sunday in October in Vernal, talked to two gentlemen who worked for oilfield service companies.

That area is experiencing a natural gas boom, they are bringing in wells, proving them, then capping for future use as there is not enough pipeline capacity at present to utilize the output.

Unfortunately, with the boom comes the yuppie-liberal-tree hugger types.

While I don´t generally support being unfair to a customer, or arbitrary firing of workers, both of these businessmen make sense. The name "I Love Drilling and Juice Bar" begs the question of why any liberal/Obama supporter go in there to begin with. As for the second owner firing Obama supporters - they were lousy workers anyway (shocking!), and was probably glad for an excuse to let them go.

I had a co-worker in another dept next to ours who had a obama/biden bumper sticker on his car. He lost his job the week after the election!

I suggest before he drives to any job interviews he scraps off that bumper sticker.

Doing my taxes I saw that I made about $5,200 less then last year with taxes up over $2,600
Add in the cost of everything going up such as gas where we are paying more then double where I paid at least $1,200 more in gas.

I just cannot fathom how stupid anyone can be to vote in any democrat.

There are two schools of thought about what lies behind North Korea’s increasingly frenzied posturing. The first goes like this: the rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang--including calls to “break the waists of the crazy enemies [and] totally cut their windpipes”--is no worse than their decades-old ritualistic promises to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”.
