Obama bypasses Congress, attempts

The Obama administration is attempting to bypass Congress and force publicly-traded companies to reveal their political donations through regulation. The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporate Finance has begun the steps necessary to create a regulation that would in many ways mirror the DISCLOSE Act — a bill Senate Democrats have failed to pass through Congress. Created in reaction to the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling that said corporations and unions could not have limits placed on their political expenditures, the Senate bill would require political

Executive orders only apply to executive departments...it is illegal to go through departments and force people to respond to an executive order. Therefore, Obie, you and your bureaucrats can put your orders where the sun don´t shine. Have a nice day!

Pete Seeger, the folk singer and unrepentant communist who died Tuesday at age 94, is being celebrated by President Barack Obama as a civil rights hero who tried to “move this country closer to the America he knew we could be.” “Over the years, Pete used his voice — and his hammer — to strike blows for worker’s rights and civil rights; world peace and environmental conservation,” said Obama in a statement released Tuesday. “And he always invited us to sing along. For reminding us where we come from and showing us where we need to go, we will always

First lady Michelle Obama — along with presidential pets Bo and Sunny — hosted a training camp at the White House to prep the contestants for this year’s Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet, the cable network announced Tuesday. The White House welcomed 13 puppies from shelters and rescue groups to “work out” before the Puppy Bowl, which is held annually on Super Bowl Sunday and features puppies playing inside a model stadium. “It was so much fun to see the Puppy Bowl X Team work out at the White House!” Michelle Obama said in a statement. “This year’s pups showed

WASHINGTON — The House Republican leadership’s broad framework for overhauling the nation’s immigration laws will call this week for a path to legal status — but not citizenship — for many of the 11 million adult immigrants who are in the country illegally, according to aides who have seen the party’s statement of principles. For immigrants brought to the United States illegally as young children, the Republicans would offer a path to citizenship. But even before the document is unveiled later, some of the party’s leading strategists and conservative voices are urging that the immigration push be abandoned, or delayed

House Republicans are mocking President Obama´s plans to circumvent Congress to achieve key policy priorities and are not ruling out suing his administration for executive overreach. House Republican leaders spoke during a Tuesday morning news conference, just hours before Obama delivers his sixth State of the Union address. They argued that if Obama really wants to boost economic growth and living conditions for middle-class Americans, he should work with them -- not around them -- on bipartisan jobs legislation. Obama´s plan to rely on executive orders to push his agenda is expected to be a major theme of Tuesday evening´s

“Repealing and replacing” Obamacare with market-oriented reforms has been the Republican mantra for years now. If you’re a long-time follower of this space, you know that we’re skeptical that Obamacare will ever be repealed, GOP slogans to the contrary. Today, however, a trio of experienced Senate Republicans—Tom Coburn (Okla.), Richard Burr (N.C.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah)—have put forth the most thoughtful and constructive plan yet developed to repeal and replace Obamacare. The plan seeks to ensure that as many Americans have health coverage as Obamacare does. It’s a proposal grounded in the real-world tradeoffs that all serious reformers must make.

Former Vice President Al Gore raised eyebrows last week when he suggested that “fertility management” was the key to fighting global warming and promoting economic development in poor countries. Gore’s comments drew criticism from free-marketeers who said his remarks amount to “eco-imperialism.” “Gore’s agenda for saving the world from global warming has always included population control,” Myron Ebell, director of global warming and international environmental policy at the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Advocating population control specifically for Africa is just another form of imperialism. Deep within the Earth, a fierce molten core is generating a magnetic field capable of defending our planet against devastating solar winds. The protective field extends thousands of miles into space and its magnetism affects everything from global communication to animal migration and weather patterns. But this magnetic field, so important to life on Earth, has weakened by 15 per cent over the last 200 years. And this, scientists claim, could be a sign that the Earth’s poles are about to flip.
