Thieves ransacked a house that features on the gun map published by the Journal News, just days after another home on the list was also targeted. Burglars broke into the house in New City, New York, on Wednesday and pried open two safes, before leaving with another one. The criminals escaped with two handguns, two pistol permits, cash, savings bonds and jewelry. The firearms were in the stolen safe. Burglars also broke into a house in White Plains, New York, on Saturday and headed straight for the gun safe.

When the homeowners finish suing the JN, I hope insurance companies sue for their loses too.

I would hope that those robbed would find some way to sue this newspaper, for without the newspaper´s publishing their names and addresses it seems to me that it would be unlikely that they would be singled out to be robbed by criminals, who would otherwise be uncertain about whether their houses contained guns worth stealing.

Lets hope that no one in these homes is seriously injured or killed in such robberies; all possible and foreseeable results of publishing this list, that any rational reporter or editor would have to have realized could be a likely consequence of their publishing these names and addresses.

P.S.--Obviously the editors considered such gun owners to be fair game, and deserving of shaming and punishment, else why publish the list.

A few questions:

- What kind of gun safes? Make? Model?
- Were the safes bolted to the floor?
- Where were the safes located? House? Garage?
- Were the homes alarmed? Battery back-up for the alarm? Was the alarm system armed and monitored 24/7 by a reputable company?

If they bought a cheap metal gun cabinet with a combination lock instead of a true gun safe, then shame on the homeowner. Your firearms are a significant investment. You have to protect them.

Gun safe is a good idea for some stuff ...but if protection is not in arms length, like a condom, consequences could be server and awkward...now it´s my fault if some one crazy does some horrible act and breaks into my home and castle...can not open the safe...and finds one of the accessible tools...well...never mind...some people will just never understand the 2nd...on any level..

If I owned guns the first thing I would do is rob my home and gun safe and remove all traces of them from my home. I would keep a copy of the papers and turn in the originals to the government so i could claim them if the Obe gun runners ever found them for me.

Attorney General Eric Holder got into a heated argument with a Republican congressman Tuesday over the still-pending contempt case against him. Holder was testifying before the House Judiciary Committee when Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, began pressing him for documents in a separate investigation. Gohmert brought up an apparent sore spot, referencing the 2012 House vote finding Holder in contempt of Congress. "I realize that contempt is not a big deal to our attorney general, but it is important that we have proper oversight," Gohmert said. A visibly annoyed Holder said: "You don´t want to go there, buddy." Leaning back in

How are the nation´s universities responding so students might prepare for a promising career in this growing and intellectually challenging field? By largely ignoring it. Why? CONCORD, N.H. — Republican Scott Brown said Monday he will kick off his next campaign for U.S. Senate in Portsmouth, the New Hampshire city he says played a special role in his childhood. The former Massachusetts senator will formally announce his bid for the seat held by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen at the Portsmouth Harborside Hotel on Thursday night. “I remember our house on Islington Street, strolling through Strawbery Banke with my grandfather, and catching a show at Prescott Park. Now, Portsmouth is going to be the start of the next chapter in my life,” he told supporters in an email.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sure talks a lot about “outside” money. She raises campaign funds by claiming to protect the state from outside “special interests” who might help Scott Brown. Those poor donors probably have no idea how much money Shaheen raises from out-of-state special interests. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign donations, Shaheen has raised 75 percent of her 2014 campaign cash from out of state. For her career, Shaheen’s top 10 metropolitan areas for campaign donations are, in order: Boston; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; Lowell, Mass; San Francisco; Manchester; Chicago; Portsmouth; Philadelphia.
