Panetta: People don´t ´need´
assault weapons

American Thinker, by Rick Moran

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/17/2013 11:34:44 AM

Even if that were true, what the heck does "need" have to do with it? We don´t "need" 150 daily newspapers in the country either, or hundreds of TV channels, or thousands and thousands of books. And while we´re at it, do we really "need" so many protestant religious demoninations? There is no "need" to bear arms - only the right to do so, guaranteed by the Constitution. Reuters: Defense Secretary Leon Panetta joined the gun control debate on Thursday when he told troops at a military base in Italy that only soldiers needed armor-piercing bullets or assault weapons.

Just gotta love these high faluting idiots who do not understand the Constitution of the USA. I may not need one NOW, but I sure will NEED one soon the way these socialists are trying to make me a serf.

Dear Mr. Panetta, How many Americans are you willing to murder at the hand of federal "law" enforcement in order to implement your gun-control plan? How much blood are you willing to spill?

Mr. Panetta,

By what means would you confront an irresponsible tyranny? By what manner do you conclude that our bureaucrats and politicians possess more angelic mercies than those of the Weimar Republic?

I fear that we have completely failed in that so many of our citizenry are willing to surrender their rights for the promise of pottage.

I suppose the GOVERNMENT knows what we "NEED" and what we don´t "NEED" better than WE?

We don´t need 5 bathrooms, don´t need a $75,000 automobile, don´t need 4 vehicles, don´t need to eat steak, don´t need a 5000 square foot home, don´t need a three 55" televisions, home theater, a 50 acre farm, 30 pairs of shoes, a $100 hair cut...

The list goes on and on and these hypocrites don´t have a clue what they are saying, which shows just how stupid they are.
This is AMERICA and if I want to spend my money, the money I EARN, on whatever hobby or interest I have, that’s my business NOT YOURS. And if I want to buy 3000 rounds of ammo or another "assault" (whatever that is) rifle, who the hell are you to tell me I can´t??!!

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I double checked just to make sure, but it´s like I thought - the word "need" does not appear in the Second Amendment.

There is no such thing as an assault weapon, Mr Panetta. It´s a made-up word to describe a rifle that´s scary looking to you and other dimbulbs.

What we don´t need is your idiotic opinion or a meddlesome government looking into what I need or not need, Thank You very much Sir.

The Second Amendment preserves the American citizenry´s right to arm itself in protection against a government gone bad. Panetta´s ignorant statement is akin to stating that the American colonists didn´t "need" flintlocks. They could protect themselves against burglars with their axes, and hunted game with bows and arrows. Of course, neither would have done them much good against the well trained and flintlock-equipped British soldiers, or their Prussian mercenaries.

No, "assault weapons" are indeed needed by 21st Century American citizens so that we might proetect ourselves against whatever modern military force might seek to enslave us. Fully automatic rifles would be even better, and once we have batted back the assault on semi-autos with effective magazine capacities we should launch our own effort to decriminalize them. LEGAL full-auto retrofits for everyone.

Again, a tyrant cannot launch a kristallnacht against shopkeepers who are ARMED.

Many of the people who own and drive them don´t need big four-wheel drive trucks either. Your neighbor doesn´t need that bass-boat in his drive... in fact, none of the people who have big yachts or boats of any kind or size don´t NEED them. We, as human beings don´t need MOST of what we have. I guess we should all live like Zero´s brother in Africa - just enough to eat, mud hut and all.

NEED has very little to do with modern human existence. Does Zero and the First Mizz NEED to go on expensive vacations?

It is not the business of elected and appointed representatives of the American people to tell them, the American people, what they do or do not need. Mr. Panetta has overstepped himself. He does not remember who he is working for, who pays his salary, and to whom he is ultimately accountable. If this is a representative sample of how Mr. Panetta thinks about his duties and delegated powers, it would be more accurate to say that Americans do not need Mr. Panetta than for him to proclaim that Americans do not need a certain type of firearm or, indeed, anything else. Who is Leon Panetta that he should be telling Americans what they do and do not need?

We also don´t need you or anyone else telling us what we need. We tell you what we need, not the other way around. We elected Emperor Zippy, God help us, and he appointed you. And by the way, is that what you told the defenders in Benghazi when they asked for assistance?

Then how come Secret Service has assault weapons? How come police have assault weapons? Why is it that those in government need protection by people who carry assault weapons and the average citizen is told they don´t need and the second amendment is so outdated.

I don´t ´´need´´ to sit here and express my opinions on any number of matters, but the 1st amendment guarnatees me the RIGHT to do so.

The 2nd amendment doesn´t have the word ´´need´´ in it anywhere. I don´t need a lot of things, but I have my guns for the reasons I have chosen to have my guns -- which is my RIGHT!!!

WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama supports requiring girls younger than 17 to see a doctor before buying the morning-after pill. But fighting that battle in court comes with its own set of risks. A federal judge in New York on Friday ordered the Food and Drug Administration to lift age restrictions on the sale of emergency contraception, ending the requirement that buyers show proof they’re 17 or older if they want to buy it without a prescription. The ruling accused the Obama administration in no uncertain terms of letting the president’s pending re-election cloud its judgment when it

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson, considered by some to be a potential Republican contender for president, apologized to Johns Hopkins University for the "poorly chosen words" he used in expressing his opposition to gay marriage last month.“I am sorry for any embarrassment this has caused,” Carson said in the letter, reported in New York Magazine.(Snip) "Although I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman, there are much less offensive ways to make that point. I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Beyonce and Jay-Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Cuba this week. The couple, who married on April 4, 2008, took in the sights of Old Havana, visited a school, dined on a rooftop terrace and strolled the fan-filled streets in their island best.(snip).The power couple declined to answer journalists´ questions about their visit to the island nation, but some outlets are reporting that the moguls are there as tourists, though that would be illegal because of the half-century embargo the U.S. has on the Communist country. The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
