I have a mixed reaction to this. Abbott is running for Governor. I have a generally good opinion of him. I think he is a good man. But this smacks a little bit of the flavor of an Obama style campaign to buy votes by importing them from somewhere else. We certainly welcome newcomers to Texas. We´re proud of the place. But we don´t want to import liberals.

I think this is a stupid thing to do--invite NY´ers to relocate to your state.
Born and bred in NYC, I left in 1973, and except for periodic visits to family, have never looked back.
I moved into a community in northeast PA, where crime was low, people were friendly, schools actually taught, gangs didn´t exist, double-parking was rare, streets were clean, etc.
About 20 years ago, a new Interstate link to NJ was completed, allowing easy transportation from NYC. Since then, half of Brooklyn and the Bronx seem to have moved here, bring all of the social and cultural problems with them. Now we have frequent gang murders, armed robbery, dirty streets, poor schools, high taxes, frequent vandalism, and double and triple parking. The only growth industries here are now gangs, drugs, and crime.
Don´t do this to Texas.

I was a long time resident of NM. We had a bit of a rivalry going with Texas. While many of them do seem to act like Yosemite Sam for the benefit of us foreigners, I cannot dispute that they are generally friendly, hard working people who like a good gun.
That makes me wonder why they would want New Yorkers there.

Urban savages are not an asset to a community and their migration out of the cities should never ever be encouraged.

Thank you, #2 and #3. I was thinking the same thing. Many Californians, fleeing the disaster they have made of their home state, have moved to Colorado, where they´ve already begun to repeat the same errors.

Do Texans really want New Yorkers or Californians in Texas? Do they really want another Austin...?

If you look at a county by county map of New York, you will see a lot of red from this last election. Getting the conservatives to bail out of New York, or getting the gun and ammo manufacturers to bail out of New York and head to Texas is desirable.

Besides, what self-respecting libtard would want to leave New York and head to Texas?

#2, I´ve been skiing Shawnee since it opened, and I´ve noticed the same thing. I was talking to a gal in a ski shop up there and she told- and this was 8 years ago- about all the gang activity and crime.

I believe my man Greg Abbott has tongue firmly planted in cheek with this little ad.

I´ve often thought that states could do themselves a favor by restricting immigrants from becoming full residents (voting in local elections) for a period of 5 years ... they would still be able to vote nationally just not locally. This would give them a period for adjustment into the local culture. These people are like the foreigners who come into our country and want to change our culture instead of acclimating.

Give Abbot credit for outside the box thinking on campaign advertising. This is a two-fer. He gets to tweak New York´s nose, and gets publicity in the local papers all at the same time.
