Leahy on guns: Treat
children better than deer

Washington Times [DC], by Stephen Dinan

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/16/2013 12:43:31 PM

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Wednesday that he supports closing the gun-show loophole and limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines, and said he´ll convene the first hearings surrounding the Sandy Hook school shooting. Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, the chamber´s senior Democrat, said his home state of Vermont, which has a strong tradition of gun rights, has a rule limiting hunters using semiautomatic rifles to just six rounds of ammunition during deer-hunting seasons."Are we really saying as a nation we´re going to be more protective of the deer than we are of our children? I think not," he said.

We need to be more protective of people with mental health problems. Leahy should be the first to be protected.

maybe we can treat children differently from deer by having armed guards in schools to protect them from crazed gunman.

if it good enough for 0bama´s children and Rahm, it is good enough for the peasants

Leaky Leahy opened his mouth and people died.
This POS had the audacity to read off the names of secret operatives fighting for our side and afterwards they were killed. Happened back in the late 70´s, early 80´s.

Like the majority of Democrats, Leahy is a MURDERER.

Reply 10 - Posted by: Mass Minority, 1/16/2013 1:25:32 PM     (No. 9120284)

What a specious argument. Why not use PA as the example, in PA you are not allowed to use a semiauto to hunt anything. Semi Auto sales in PA are just as vigourous as they are everywhere else.

Most folks buy Bushmasters and AR15s because they are just plain fun to shoot. Is it congress´ job to regulate fun?

There is no city on the planet where anyone needs or could even fully use an automobile that can reach over 140 MPH. There is no state in the union that allows a car to travel even 100mph.

Should we ban automobiles capable of speeds in excess of 90mph because no one can use them? Would hollywood and professional sports give up their Porsces and Ferraris because they cannot legally go as fast as the car allows?

No individual needs to purchase alcohol in half gallon jugs. Even commercial bars and restaurants use only fifths. Half gallons just make straw purchases for minors easier. Shouldn´t we require a permit for half gallon booze bottles? After all buying that amount says you are throwing a party. People drive drunk after parties does not the government have a public health responsibility to ensure that only a certain quantity of alcohol per legal guest is available. To save the children from early death due to drunk drivers? Shouldn´t we limit the amount of liquor allowed to be stored in a home for the same reason?

Argumentum ad absurdum.

How about treating competent adults as citizens rather than subjects, you intrusive creep.

Reply 12 - Posted by: dvc, 1/16/2013 1:41:56 PM     (No. 9120325)

The Second Amendment has never had anything whatsoever to do with hunting. It does not say "a well regulated hunting sport. . ."

The 2nd Amendment is about a well armed populace being able to deter and, if necessary, stop a tyrannical government.

The punk in the White House has tendencies in that direction. Congress needs to stop this baloney.

Hammers and fists are used to kill far more people than ALL rifles each year, modern defensive rifles are a tiny subset of all rifles.

School children and teachers are penned up in ´gun free´ zones. This makes them sitting ducks No escape and no defense.

Seems politicians care more about political capital, than dead children or teachers.

Reply 14 - Posted by: TexasHillCountry, 1/16/2013 1:47:53 PM     (No. 9120334)

I use a single-shot rifle to hunt deer.

If I have to defend myself and mine against the government, I want magazines and firepower AT LEAST on a par with theirs.

Reply 15 - Posted by: Cavallodifiero, 1/16/2013 1:49:36 PM     (No. 9120336)

I think Leahy and the rest of the Congress and the President and his cabinet and all of their families, should be treated with the same care as they give the school children. Ban all of them from having armed protection and make their work places and homes "Gun free zones".

Reply 16 - Posted by: dvc, 1/16/2013 1:52:29 PM     (No. 9120344)

The Second Amendment has never had anything whatsoever to do with hunting. The 2nd Amendment is about a well armed populace being able to deter and, if necessary, stop a tyrannical government, exactly like we did with a tyrranical British rule.

Hammers and fists are used to kill far more people than ALL rifles each year (FBI stat), modern defensive rifles are a tiny subset of all rifles. "Assault weapons" (a meaningless, inaccurate pejorative) are already banned Connecticut.

There is an INVERSE correlation between gun control and violence. The ONLY thing that stops a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, be it a policeman, armed guard or a legally armed private citizen.

That law makes a lot of sense. Any prospective mass killer would be stopped cold at six victims. Why, if he loaded a seventh round, he would be breaking the law!

Reply 19 - Posted by: veritas, 1/16/2013 1:57:55 PM     (No. 9120355)

#9´s right. Leahy should be spending his life in jail for his crimes.

#4, #12, remember, "well-regulated" simply means trained to a proper level of competence with the weapons. And "militia" means the pool of competent citizens who can turn out for armed defense against our enemies... foreign and domestic.

#15: Agreed -- if "gun-free zones" are the best approach [and who among our "leaders" would advise less for our kids?], then "gun-free zones" should be the answer for the politicians.

Well, if Senator Leahy wants to make fantastic arguments about deer and guns, try this one: Which would protect the deer better, limiting hunters to six rounds or making it so the deer were armed and could shoot back? What an idiot.

I remember when Leahy did that secret operatives deal in the 70´s and I guess his constituents are murderers as they continued to vote for him until today. Why the heck don´t the Republicans throw that information out there every time he comes up for election, why? Because they too do not care for the lives of any of us, only themselves and their own.

WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama supports requiring girls younger than 17 to see a doctor before buying the morning-after pill. But fighting that battle in court comes with its own set of risks. A federal judge in New York on Friday ordered the Food and Drug Administration to lift age restrictions on the sale of emergency contraception, ending the requirement that buyers show proof they’re 17 or older if they want to buy it without a prescription. The ruling accused the Obama administration in no uncertain terms of letting the president’s pending re-election cloud its judgment when it

A few years after the assassination of President John F.
