Common ground on guns
Washington Post, by Tim Kaine

Original Article

Posted By:grandpa, 1/15/2013 4:25:19 PM

Our nation faces a fundamental question in the aftermath of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. If gun violence is a problem -- and U.S. citizens overwhelmingly think that it is -- will our leaders act quickly and wisely to reduce gun deaths? (Snip) Those who say it´s only about gun limitations should know that Virginia´s experience has shown the importance of enhanced criminal penalties, greater access to mental-health services and campus security protocols.

Comments:
Some common sense from this new democratic Senator. He seems open to the possible impact of drug using psychotics on school shootings, as the motivator behind the guns.

Common ground on gun control=giving gun control extremists everything they want without argument.

Liberals idea of fair and balanced debate=shutting up and just letting the liberals talk.

Have a nice day. ;-)

Once again he talks about ´closing loophole´ about background checks at gun shows. The problem isn´t loopholes, the problem is background checks. How well have the worked in, oh, say, Chicago? Detroit? It wasn´t a ´loophole´ until the Feds decided that more intel was needed to track law abiding citizens. It isn´t about decreasing crimes with guns (that continues despite background checks. The loophole is the in the thinking from liberals and Dems that control law abiding citizens will somehow decrease the crime committed by criminals.

Reply 4 - Posted by: Ribicon, 1/15/2013 4:41:04 PM     (No. 9118408)

Democrat lies sprinkled throughout. This one´s clever, FTA:

"In Richmond, reform was about taking steps to reduce the unusually high gun-carry rate among our citizens. Too many folks were carrying guns as if they were a casual accessory. And when trouble arose, guns would too often be used as the solution, leading to a stubbornly high rate of aggravated assaults and murders in our city."

The implication is that carry permit holders were committing the crimes. If true, that would run contrary to statistics everywhere else in the US, which show permit holders are highly unlikely to commit crimes.

Reply 5 - Posted by: spincut, 1/15/2013 4:41:41 PM     (No. 9118411)

How about this: instead of putting more restrictions on law abiding gun owners (the ones who will obey gun laws); let´s go after criminals. Let´s authorize a new program that will have regular "visitations" of armed agents on the homes, cars, and persons of ex-cons and probationers and people awaiting trial: the people who shouldn´t have guns. Bet this would radically cut gun crimes.

The common ground is millions of sheeple want you to be unarmed, just like them. The sheeple cheer for a government that can do anything it wants to you. They are masochistic cowards who embrace the totalitarians boot and put it on their own neck. They hate anyone who resists that idea. Democrats everywhere nurture this kind of voter.

One thing that Virginia did do several years ago was to get the feds (US Attorney for Virginia) involved in enforcing existing gun laws re:felons in possession of a firearm. The fed cooperated and prosecuted in federal court with federal penalties, perps with felony records and arrested by local LEOs while packing. The perps quickly got the idea that there would be no plea bargains with the feds, just hard time. Many, many stopped carrying heat BEFORE they got caught. And the federal charges were on top of any state or local penalties.

". . SHALL NOT be infringed."

Mixed truth and lies. When an honest citizen legally carrys a gun, it is not as a casual accessory, but as a serious tool to oppose evil men, if it becomes necessary.

The backgound check "loophole" is total BS. Criminals do NOT undergo background checks, they steal or buy illegally.

From 1776 to 1968, a gun was as regulated as a loaf of bread and crime was generally low. Gun control has an INVERSE correlation with crime. More gun control = more crime.
ALWAYS.

I challenge anyone to find any place where increased gun control actually lowered the crime rate.

In all the 40+ states where CCW laws have been reformed, increasing guns being carried by honest citizens has provably LOWERED the crime rate. Hoplophobes are mentally ill and cannot accept even overwhelming evidence that their "facts" are WRONG.

The U.S. is increasing its oil production faster than ever and U.S. drivers are guzzling less gas. But you´d never know it from the price at the pump. (Snip) A major reason cited for high gasoline prices over the past two years -- fighting and political tensions in the Middle East and North Africa -- doesn´t apply this year. Libyan production has returned after collapsing during the country’s revolution two years ago. And higher production from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia has made up for Iran’s declining output in the face of Western sanctions.

In the years before the financial crisis, mortgage originators were rewarded with bonuses and higher pay for steering millions of Americans into risky and unsustainable home loans. Starting next January, however, brokers’ and loan officers’ compensation will no longer be based on the terms of the mortgages they originate, according to new guidelines released Friday by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The rules are the latest effort by the consumer watchdog to improve the way homeowners interact with the mortgage industry at every step of the lending process.
