There is nothing wrong with having children on the stage. Every president or candidate in the television age has had proponents or beneficiaries of proposed legislation on the stage.

As for closing loopholes on background checks, why would anyone oppose that? It never made any sense that you had to pass a background check to purchase a weapon from seller A, but you didn´t have to pass one to purchase same weapon from seller B. Or, you could lie on your background check application and no one would pay any attention (a loophole that has put guns into the hands of felons many a time).

The Second Amendment, in its reference to a well-ordered militia, clearly was not intending to promote unlimited guns for known criminals or psychotic individuals. Nothing well-ordered there.

When the intent is not ´background checks´ but to be able to locate every single gun in the U.S. If they know exactly who has what, it is much easier to confiscate them. It´s not complicated. The Bill of Rights is devoted to protecting the individual from government. Only the gullible believe that the Framers would write down the First Amendment, veer off towards conscription for national defense in the Second, then return to individual rights for the rest of the document. No, the Second is about resistance against tyranny just as the Fifth, Fourth and others are. Parsing its language is a diversionary tactic, nothing more.
