New pay-per-mile scheme
would boost taxes 250 percent

Washington Examiner, by Paul Bedard

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/15/2013 11:09:44 AM

An on-again, off-again move by the Obama administration to scrap the federal gas tax in favor of a pay-per-mile fee would boost the tab to Americans as high as 250 percent, raising their current tax of 18.4 cents a gallon to as high as 46 cents, according to a new government study. But without a tax increase, said the Government Accountability Office study, the government´s highway fund is going to go dry. One reason the fund is going broke: President Obama´s push for fuel efficient cars has resulted in better mileage, and fewer stops at the pump.

Comments:
These bloodsuckers just never quit. They won´t be happy until they confiscate everything you own. This is just sickening.

Best part about this technology is that it can be used to provide what amount to Gas Stamps to "the poor" as they drive around in their Escalades. Simply add a multiplier to the chip in the Victim-American´s car; could even be a negative one (like the EITC), yielding a "bonus" for driving to work.

Meanwhile, the chumps who commute to work receive their punishment, more so for those meanies who live out in the suburbs or rural areas.

Most amusing! Stuff like this gives ya´ a notion of why the current administration would like the public disarmed...

How about a condom tax as well? Given the rationale of the Fed - that could be used to defray the costs of welfare for women kicking out 10 children on the public´s dime.

Funny - they haven´t addressed ´child per momma´ mileage rules yet.

Not to worry. Obama´s demand that our cars & trucks meet his 54.5 mile per gallon requirement by 2025, our falling incomes and the high prices for Obama fuels (20% ethanol) mean that our roads will look like Obama´s model country, Cuba. Old cars, SUVs and pickups will be kept running while sales of electrics and tiny gasoline powered vehicles wither. We will consume more gas by keeping the "gas guzzlers" going, so the Fed will still collect its fuel taxes and its excise tax on tires.

As an added bonus, this will really stick it to those people in the so called "Red" counties of the country. Many people in these parts have many more miles to drive to get to any grocery store, school, or Wagyu beef outlet.

Animal power! The Amish may be onto something. Did you know a dog team can pull a full sized SUV quite nicely- not as fast, but for miles and miles and miles. Result, of course would be having to pay "doggie tax"- Our Chihuahua alone demands at least five percent of everything we eat!

A broken speedometer won´t help. Technology is already being used to track us in almost every vehicle sold today. Then there´s the traffic light cameras that have the capability of identifying us at every street light. They don´t have to take a look inside our vehicles.

Current gas taxes already penalize three things:

1. Mileage driven
2. Cars with low MPG.
3. Urban stop-and-go driving. (which lowers MPG)

How would a mileage tax improve on a gas tax? It would only further complicate our already complicated tax system. Is some crony capitalist trying to sell the government mileage meters? Or are Democratic Party urban areas trying to LOWER their fuel taxes - relative to their hated brethren in the outlying areas? (who tend to do mostly high mileage, high MPG - highway driving)

My guess as to what ultimately happens:

govt proposed mileage tax -- people complain that it unfairly punishes rural America (which it does, along with lots of others).

govt proposes making Interstates toll roads -- people complain that it unfairly punishes long distance travelers (which it does, along with lots of others).

govt proposes raising gas tax -- people complain that it unfairly targets people with older cars who can´t afford to get new ones (which it does, along with lots of others).

people suggest govt spend less money -- govt complains that is ridiculous and unreasonable.

govt comes up with its solution -- mileage tax AND toll roads AND raise gas tax; since that unfairly targets everyone and govt spending increases. Everyone equally happy.

That will be the thin end of the wedge. Look next for penalties for driving in high-density areas (already used in London and Singapore) as the next step.
Idling for too long is also possible, not having regular maintenance at the dealer, all sorts of possible taxes could come of this.
But the government has to provide the necessary tracking devices and make sure they all still work all the time.

Ummm, fuel mileage has been on a steady increase since the 80s. The automotive industry has been quite successful in this regard, especially when you consider that horsepower has not been sacrificed. The only way the Obamboozler is involved is in his relentless quest to penalize success, which is all this amounts to!
