Glenn Beck´s Blueprint for a
Self-Sufficient Theme Park in Texas

Reason Magazine, by Jesse Walker

Original Article

Utopian text of the day: (snip for videos) That´s Glenn Beck outlining his vision of Independence Park, a sort of a survivalist EPCOT: a self-sufficient media center, expo park, ranch, and residential area, the latter designed in ways intended to break down class barriers and nourish a rich public life. Other plans for the private city include solar energy, underground roads, a learning center (not a school, because "schools are a thing of the past"), and the town´s own "national archives," where the community will keep

I watched the program in question, and it didn´t sound at all weird - more visionary, if anything. Walt Disney was probably thought of as ´´weird´´. I agree with the author in this respect: I´m all for mad plans, as long as they aren´t compulsory and as long as they aren´t done on the public dime.

If Glenn Beck is spending his own money, why not on this?

According to the liberal dictionary ..... anything that Glenn Beck says or does is crazy, insane whacko, extremist, a fraud, a lie and dangerous. Beck could offer free milk to babies and the left would scream that it was a right wing conspiracy of some sort or other. If Beck said that the sky was blue, the left would call him a liar and debate the shade of blue.

Glenn Beck is a true visionary. He´s done some amazing things in the past five years and with much success. I have no doubt his idea for a theme park will become a reality. I wish him well.

This is Beck´s weakness. He comes up with 3-point plans, 15-point affirmations, 7-step methods, und so weiter. Plans, plans, plans.

100 Years of Wrigley Field: Are the Chicago

Happy birthday Wrigley Field, but are you too beautiful of a ballpark? After all, attendance at games is more sensitive to beer prices—much more—than it is to the Cubs’ record. Wrigley Field, the dead-ball-era ballpark wedged into perhaps Chicago’s hippest north-side neighborhood, turns 100 this April. With its ivy-shrouded walls, manually operated scoreboard, and concrete-and-steel edifice, it survives as a monument to architectural beauty and athletic ineptitude. The Chicago Cubs, those loveable losers of the National League, have called the friendly confines of Wrigley home for the past 98 years, and not once in that time have they won the World

Few cries for attention are less effective than turning off the lights and sitting in the dark for an hour. Who can watch if they cannot see? Nevertheless, the World Wide Fund for Nature is encouraging people around the world to honor, or celebrate, or mourn, or whatever, during “Earth Hour,” Saturday night between 8:30 and 9:30. The idea is to persuade everybody to renounce technology with the flick of a switch, raising “awareness” of the need for big government to rescue the globe, indeed even the universe, from the scourge of global warming. THE youngest son of missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah has finally broke the family´s silence over allegations against his father. Ahmad Seth, 26, a language student, said ever since the aircraft disappeared on March 8, he had been reading up on news reports concerning the flight and his father, as well as the numerous speculation surrounding the incident. He said he was aware of the wild theories that his father, 53, was a political fanatic and that the latter might have hijacked the Boeing jetliner but he was quick to dismiss the speculation, saying that

Forty-eight hours after a recent windstorm blew a wall of tumbleweeds into his community on the high plains of Colorado, Robert McClintock and his neighbors were still working to clear away heaps of the spiny plant. "It was crazy. Some piles were more than 10 feet high," said McClintock, 38, as he and other residents in the town of Fountain, 15 miles southeast of Colorado Springs, toiled to rake up and bag stacks of the thorny weed in the subdivision. Prolonged drought, punctuated by bursts of high winds and untimely rain, has created an explosion of tumbleweeds on the rolling plains of

Critics warn deportation review could

Critics of the Obama administration´s deportation policies are concerned that an internal review could lead to deeper cuts of "what little is left" of immigration enforcement. The White House announced earlier this month that Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, at the president´s request, would review enforcement policies. The decision came after Johnson, President Obama and White House officials met with immigrant and Latino advocacy groups, many of whom have slammed the administration for being too tough. One has gone so far as to call Obama the "deporter in chief." But a look at the numbers shows deportations under this administration

Bryant, who wears self-discipline like a badge, has long favored the more predictable Perry’s odds, and found in Bieber’s recent tabloid episodes hints of a looming implosion: talent spurned. As he and the associate walked into the dining room at the Four Seasons, in downtown Miami, in late January, the associate, a Belieber, mentioned that Bryant had been giving him a hard time about it for years. The Obama administration´s decision to let some consumers enroll in health plans beyond Monday´s deadline sparked concern among insurers and prompted fresh attacks from opponents of the health law. A surge of consumers is expected to hit HealthCare.gov before Monday´s deadline to sign up for insurance and avoid a penalty under the Affordable Care Act. In the past, heavy traffic has stalled the federal site. On Wednesday, U.S. officials said consumers who say they began trying to sign up for health coverage by Monday´s deadline will be allowed to continue after that date and won´t face penalties for remaining uninsured.

Several Democratic senators moved Thursday to "improve" parts of ObamaCare, proposing numerous changes to the law amid concerns that it could cost Democrats House seats and possibly the Senate in November. The proposals came from a half-dozen senators, some of whom are facing reelection in the fall and most of whom represent moderate-to-conservative states. Since Democrats currently control the Senate, the proposals will put Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., in an uncomfortable position -- forcing him to decide whether to put the bills to a vote or sideline them, despite the political risks for his party´s incumbents. Transparency and truth are the fuels that run sophisticated civilizations. Without them, the state grinds to a halt. Lack of trust — not barbarians on the frontier, global warming or cooling, or even epidemics — doomed civilizations of the past, from imperial Rome to the former Soviet Union. The United States can withstand the untruth of a particular presidential administration if the permanent government itself is honest. Dwight Eisenhower lied about the downed U-2 spy plane inside the Soviet Union. Almost nothing Richard Nixon said about Watergate was true. Does the Ukraine crisis mark the beginning of a new cold war? The answer from President Obama is a firm no. “The United States does not view Europe as a battleground between East and West, nor do we see the situation in Ukraine as a zero-sum game. That’s the kind of thinking that should have ended with the cold war,” he told a Dutch newspaper. The president is partially correct. Unlike the Soviet Union, Russia has neither the intention nor the capability to challenge the entire European order, and it is certainly not mounting a global revolutionary movement. As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.
