Spying on school kids
Washington Times, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 1/14/2013 12:39:44 PM

School districts in Texas are using tracking chips to spy on students. That’s just fine with a federal judge who ruled Tuesday against Andrea Hernandez, a 15-year-old high school sophomore in San Antonio. (Snip) Like a growing number of institutions around the country, Northside Independent School District forces students to wear photo identification cards around their necks at all times. Cameras also watch the every move of pupils as they roam the halls and use the playgrounds. The high school Miss Hernandez attends took the logical next step by requiring students to carry “Smart IDs”

Comments:
This is how it begins. One school last week wanted to arm their janitors. Now, here in Texas, students are "forced," [notice the word used], to wear an ID card so they could be tracked while on school grounds. As a patient in a hospital, I am "forced" to wear a band with my info so hospital knows who I am and not to hopefully give me wrong drugs or operation.

When they plant the chip in US, like a pet´s, then we should worry. But, your high tech portable items, phone & credit cards may already be doing this.

As long as the parents just stand silent - this stuff will continue.

No way a child of mine would be in a public school.

When I was in grade school, my teachers knew where I was and what I was doing at all times WITHOUT a chip. Every one of them had a paddle and didn´t need a tracking device to keep their charges in line! In high school, it was a good thing for me they DIDN´T have a tracking device!

Maybe this will keep them on campus during school hours and not down the street at the craack house. It could be a positive at keeping them focused.

Not sure I see the problem with this.

The IDs are not implanted and students don´t have to carry the IDs anywhere off campus and while they are on campus, knowing where students are seems a reasonable action by administrators. It´s not like they are listening in or watching them use the toilet. I much prefer IDs to cameras everywhere.

What am I missing?

In and by itself does not seem unreasonable...but it won´t end there. Then the school will require it to be on kids 24 hours, then your employer will require it as a condition of employment and then government will require every one to wear them all the time...all in the name of "safety".

In the mid-20th century, in response to the United States’ rapidly expanding telephone network, executives at the Bell System introduced a new way of dialing the phone. Until then, for the most part, it was human operators—mostly women—who had directed calls to their destinations. Dialing systems had reflected this reliance on the vocal cord. Phone numbers weren’t numbers; they were alphanumeric addresses, named after phone exchanges that encompassed particular geographic areas. The Elizabeth Taylor movie Butterfield 8 gets its name from that system: The Butterfield exchange served the tony establishments of Manhattan´s

Belgium passes law extending

Brussels - Belgian lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly to extend the country´s euthanasia law to children under the age of 18. The 86-44 vote in the House of Representatives, on Thursday, with 12 abstentions, followed approval by the senate in December. The law lifts Belgium´s age restrictions on euthanasia and can sanction it where children have a terminal and incurable illness, are near death, and suffering "constant and unbearable physical" pain, and where parents and professionals agree to the choice. The law was opposed by some Belgian paediatricians and the country´s leading Roman Catholic cleric. The law will come into

Washington - Financial markets were watching, the retirement accounts of millions of Americans on the line. Nervous senators were watching too, well aware that political fortunes could be on the line. So on perhaps the most important vote of the year, the Senate did something extraordinary this week: It tried to keep the vote tally secret until the outcome was assured. As lawmakers voted Wednesday on must-pass legislation to increase the government´s debt limit, they dropped the parliamentary equivalent of a curtain on the voting as it was in progress. Typically, roll-call votes in the Senate play out in a very public manner.

Washington - Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, offered a long-shot option on Thursday to revive the moribund effort to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws that would require the support of more than a dozen House Republicans — and, if nothing else, pressure others to act on an election-year issue that Tea Party-aligned members strongly oppose. The legislative maneuver, known as a discharge petition, would allow supporters of overhauling the nation’s immigration laws to circumvent the Republican majority in the House by bringing the measure directly to the House floor, bypassing the regular committee process.

The country’s biggest conservative political organization announced Wednesday that it was diving into a bitter Republican primary in Michigan, its first such intervention into the broader battle between GOP-leaning business groups and Tea Party conservatives. (Snip) But the decision to get into a hotly contested primary on behalf of one of the most aggressive lawmakers hints at the delicate line the group is trying to walk: to maintain its credibility with other conservatives seeking to reshape the Republican Party without committing itself to an expensive internecine struggle that could endanger its chances of retaking the Senate this year.

New York - A new study has added to growing evidence that yearly mammogram screenings do not reduce the chance that a woman will die of breast cancer and confirms earlier findings that many abnormalities detected by these X-rays would never have proved fatal, even if untreated. The research, published on Wednesday in the British Medical Journal, is the latest salvo in a decades-long debate over the benefit of mammograms. The 25-year study of 89,835 women in Canada, aged 40 to 59, randomly assigned the volunteers to receive either annual mammograms plus physical breast exams or physical exams alone.

Two entities must replace Derek Jeter: the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball. The Steinbrenners may have the easier job. The Yankees will have a new shortstop in 2015. Jeter made that official Wednesday, announcing his retirement effective at the end of this season. The Yankees don´t have an obvious heir in the farm system, but rest assured that Brian Cashman will identify a successor — through free agency, trade or promotion — at some point in the next 14 months. From that standpoint, the timing isn´t bad. Hanley Ramirez, Asdrubal Cabrera, J.J. Hardy, and Jed Lowrie will be free agents next winter.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was in direct contact with President Barack Obama at least 18 times between October 2012 and October 2013, including seven occasions where her draft calendar showed Obamacare as the topic of conversation. The news appears to contradict her insistence that Obama was in the dark about problems plaguing the ill-fated healthcare.gov website in the months leading up to its October 1, 2013 launch. Less than 24 hours after President Obama illegally rewrote the law he had previously jammed down Boehner´s -- and the country´s -- throat, Boehner handed the budding dictator a clean debt-ceiling hike. Last October, Obama vindictively shut down the federal government upon his having refused to delay ObamaCare, which of course is exactly what he himself lawlessly did on February 10, 2014! Former Allegheny County commissioner Bob Cranmer says he shares that same knowledge. He says his home was possessed. “I’ve seen it; I’ve seen crucifixes bent in half repeatedly.
