This is the moment a gunman was caught on CCTV just seconds before shooting a taxi driver. The bearded man jumped into the back of a-cab in the Bronx area of New York in the early hours of Sunday, police have said. He then pulled out a gun and threatened driver Raphael Martinez, 54, in his cab around 5.10am when the driver did not understand his demands. The attack was captured on the in-car security cameras. According to the New York Post, police said he shot at the cab driver five times, hitting him twice, before waiting until

Comments:
Headline says cabbie is dead, article text says he´s in "stable condition." But Mayor Bloomberg might wonder, is that a supersize soda on the seat next to the criminal?

The weapon used in this horrible, horrible crime is probably street bought like most illegal drugs; no gun control law will stop people like this. If he had a knife, he would have inflicted multiple stab wounds. Thank you God, for not letting this INNOCENT PERSON die in this senseless attack and thank you for the camera in the taxi that will lead the the capture of this animal. May he never get out of prison, since his intent was surely to murder Mr. Martinez.

Thank God that the man lived, and pray for his recovery...

Making everyone take more extensive background checks and limiting us all to firearms that hold seven rounds or less would have prevented this. s/.

1. Wait -- security cameras didn´t stop the crime? NYC gun laws didn´t stop the crime? Laws against attempted murder didn´t stop the crime? Laws against theft didn´t stop the crime? Laws against assault didn´t stop the crime? But -- why not?

2. Considering the pointless depravity and indifference to the victim ol´ Trayvon 2nd showed here, I´d have no problem voting for capital punishment for him.

3. Far past time to draw some lines in defense of civilization -- though such perps obviously have little use for it.

4. Uhhh, how is it that a readily-applicable identifying characteristic of the criminal isn´t mentioned? [That he´s right-handed. What did you think I meant?]

Augusta, Ga. — The usual crowd at the putting green at Augusta National had turned to face the wrong direction, toward the outdoor dining area adjacent to the old clubhouse. Usually, this is a sign that golf royalty is nearby. And, sure enough, there he was: Arnold Palmer, the four-time Masters winner, wearing in his green jacket and looking over a menu that he has probably seen a thousand times. He already has his beverage. He is drinking an Arnold Palmer. We will have a full week to debate questions pertaining to this tournament. Will Tiger Woods finally break his major

New York — Cookie Monster stands accused of shoving a 2-year-old. Super Mario was charged with groping a woman. And Elmo was booked for berating tourists with anti-Semitic slurs. Times Square is crawling with entrepreneurs who dress up as pop-culture characters and try to make a few bucks posing for photos with visitors to the big city. But some of these characters are unlike anything you´ve seen on "Sesame Street" or at Disney World. They smoke, they use foul language, and they can be aggressive. At least three of them have been arrested in the past seven months.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan has gained a reputation for citing crime statistics that don’t always add up or making statements to the press she later says were taken out of context. It’s happened again. In an interview with KCBS radio broadcast on Monday, Oakland’s mayor said the following: For the last 2 months, violence in Oakland has been way down. It seems to come in these spurts. So like for six weeks there had been no murders east of High Street in East Oakland. Problem is, there have been seven homicides east of High Street over the past six weeks,

More importantly for the November 2013 season finale in Pensacola, their practices in October are canceled too. New York — As many doctors struggle to keep their practices financially sound, some are buckling under money woes and being pushed into bankruptcy. It´s a trend that´s accelerated in recent years, industry experts say, with potentially serious consequences for doctors and patients. Some physicians are still able to keep practicing after bankruptcy, but for others, it´s a career-ending event. And when a practice shuts its doors, patients can find it harder to get the health care they need nearby. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by physician practices have spiked recently, noted Bobby Guy, co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute´s

The U.S. Agency for International Development, the federal government’s main foreign aid arm, announced at a Monday event in Washington a major new initiative to promote LGBT rights in developing countries. Eighty-five countries and territories currently criminalize same-sex relationships, according to the agency. Seven impose a death penalty. In South Africa, lesbians are often subjected to “corrective rape,” while throughout the Middle East and Africa, LGBT people are murdered and tortured because of their sexual orientation, said Claire Lucas, a senior adviser at the agency who conceived of the project.
