A parasite has insidiously invaded the body of America. It has fed and grown large on nutrients from government handouts and now is enervating its host, our capitalist system. Since our president entered the White House in January 2009 through September of this year 5.9 million people have been added to the SSDI or Social Security Disability program. That compares with less than 2.5 million jobs created during the same period. According to Social Security Administration data, currently including spouses and children, SSDI rolls have swollen to a bloated 10.9 million.
Comments: The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward (1926–2001) and Frances Fox Piven (b. 1932) that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty".
sigh - Affective orders is a mental health term. It refers to depression, bipolar and schizoaffective disorders.
People do not qualify for SSI or SSDI on the basis of a diagnosis. They qualify based on their level of functioning, given that diagnosis. That is why the questions are there to help determine the level of functioning. This has to be supported by a medical professional. If in doubt, SSA will have the person seen by a medical professional of SSA´s choosing.
1- by definition, these are for long-term disabilities. If there were lots of people getting off, then they shouldn´t have qualified in the first place.
2- there are tremendous disincentives built into the system to get off, in particular, asking people with disabilities to lose access to Medicaid. They likely can´t qualify for other health insurance. There are procedures to try to maintain Medicaid and get off SSI or SSDI, but they were written by bureaucrats and almost no one can follow them.
Nominate for must read. A sister in law called me to gloat when Obamacare passed. She lost a very big job in the crash of 2008 and is unlikely to get anything remotely as good. She and her husband have been consuming a lot of medical care over the last couple of years. She did not qualify for Obamacare. She did however get on Disability not because of any specific physical ailment but because the large amounts of medication required qualified as a mental disability. If we do not get growth and jobs, Disability to going to destroy what is left of the economy.
Here´s another little tidbit of info that I learned only recently. An aquaintance is an OB/GYN, will turn 63 this year, and decided that he did not want to/could not comply with all the new rules and regs under Obamacare - might as well take early retirement.
He called the agency to find out how to register for SSI, was informed that not only did he qualify, but since he has a young daughter under 18 living in the home, she qualifies. AND - his wife also qualifies immediately under his account. The agent with whom he spoke was very open with advice such as: just make sure you spend all the young daughter´s money each month or she might not qualify next year, etc., etc.
This did not shock only me (or friends and family with whom he shared the info) but him as well.
When you take stories like this into consideration, it´s absolutely no wonder that the system is about to come crashing down around us.
0-hole has done this to us for one reason, only. He has handed out SSI and SSID like Halloween candy in order to keep the unemployment numbers low, so he could get himself re-elected. This is nothing but another campaign expense to get 0 a second term.
Stephen Halbrook’s new book could earn him a contentious evening on Piers Morgan’s CNN show.(snip)But Halbrook doesn’t shy away from pointing out what he sees as parallels, if not comparisons, between what happened then with what is happening in America now. “Actually, there are parallels between the firearm bans and registration requirements enacted by the Weimar Republic and those proposed by President Obama,” Halbrook, a Rearch Fellow at the Independent Institute, told The Daily Caller when asked what he would say to those who will argue making such a comparison
This year, the organization known as the Gay Men´s Health Crisis is expected to rake in $11.4 million in donations thanks in large part to the New York AIDS Walk. Unfortunately, only $374,000 —around 3 percent — goes to HIV-positive and at-risk people. Most of the money, some $4.6 million will go toward rent, according to a report from DNAinfo. "Nearly 97 percent of the small, private donations GMHC receives will go toward administrative costs, including paying the nonprofit´s $389,000-per-month rent for its largely empty office on the West Side, " DNAinfo´s Mathew Katz reports,
The Department of Energy failed to disclose concerns about a green-technology company that won $135 million in federal funding but ended up filing for bankruptcy in September, according to a watchdog report released this week. DOE Inspector General Gregory Friedman noted that the firm, San Francisco-based Ecotality, is still due to receive $26 million from the agency for testing electric vehicles. The report said the DOE knew in May that Ecotality was not on track to meet an important milestone for a grant to install charging stations and that agency officials failed to disclose that
GRAND RAPIDS - WZZM 13´s Watchdog team started out to do a story prompted by viewer questions about the use and cost of public car charging stations. (Snip) In all since 2009, U.S. tax payers have paid $5 billon in stimulus money to put electric cars on the road. But the plan hasn´t really worked. All one has to do to see Americans aren´t embracing electric cars is to drive empty charging stations, from Grand Rapids to Muskegon to Holland. Empty, lonely, spaces; sentinels waiting for you to plug into the future, proponents might say. "I believe this is a tremendous asset for downtown,
Ten Republican senators asked President Obama on Thursday to fire his top health official because the problems tied to the federal Obamacare website are “profound, systemic and undeniable.” “We write today to formally request that you immediately relieve Secretary [Kathleen] Sebelius of her duties as Secretary of Health and Human Services,” the letter, spearheaded by Sen. Pat Roberts, a Republican who knows Mrs. Sebelius personally from their shared home state of Kansas, said. They outlined a litany of problems with HealthCare.gov, which is supposed to connect residents of 36 states
Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday that the five defendants on trial in military commissions in connection to the 9/11 terrorist attacks “would be on death row as we speak,” had Holder been allowed to go forward with his plan to try them in federal courts instead. Addressing delays in the high-profile trial of accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed at the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Holder said: “Not to be egocentric about this, But that I was right.” Holder made the comments during an unrelated news conference, CNN reports. The trial against Mohammed may not begin until January 2015. Holder addressed
Are you racist if you have a gun in your home? According to a study by foreigners, yes. Researchers in England and Australia randomly dialed phone numbers until they found white voters willing to take part in their study. Those who agreed to participate were paid $10 a month from January 2008 to September 2009 and provided Internet access if they didn’t have it. Respondents were quizzed to gauge their level of racism. Here’s a few of the questions: • How well does the word ‘violent’ describe most blacks? •How much do you agree with the following statement? “Generations of slavery and discrimination have created conditions
Virginia mother has told several media outlets that there was nothing wrong with her decision to dress her 7-year-old son as a Ku Klux Klan member for Halloween since it´s a tradition in her family. This is just another story in a long line of offensive Halloween costumes this year, including the Florida men who dressed as George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, the Michigan woman who dressed as a Boston Marathon bombing victim and TV personality Julianne Hough incorporating blackface into her "Orange is the New Black" costume. But considering this involves a child who simply thought the costume was "cool" and
Former President Jimmy Carter said he very nearly came to blows with the ex-president of South Africa over AIDS treatment. “The first time I came here to Cape Town I almost got in a fight with the president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, because he was refusing to let AIDS be treated,” Mr. Carter said in The Sunday Times. That’s about the closest he came to “getting into a fistfight with a head of state,” he said, as The Blaze reported. Mr. Carter said he was traveling with Bill Gates Sr. to South Africa to persuade the South African leader to provide
Idris Elba and Naomie Harris have been invited to movie night at the White House, where Barack Obama is holding a special screening of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom for the cast.Nelson Mandela´s daughters Zindzi and Zenani Mandela have also been invited along to watch the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Idris plays Nelson Mandela and Naomie plays his ex wife Winnie in the film based on Nelson´s autobiography, that tells the story of his early life and 27 years in prison before becoming president and working to unite his country´s segregated society
A polar bear attack in Canada that left two people injured has brought new warnings from scientists of a dangerous rise in human-bear encounters in a warming Arctic. The friends had just walked out of the door in the pre-dawn hours after a party when the young polar bear crept up behind them, unheard and unseen. (snip)It has also prompted new warnings from scientists of the rising risks of human-polar bear encounters because of climate change, with starving bears coming off the ice and onto land looking for food. The attack in the centre of Churchill occurred at about 5am on 1 November,
A memo the Obama administration turned over to the House Oversight Committee revealed that the White House granted itself a waiver to launch the faulty HealthCare.gov website with “a level of uncertainty.” The waiver was granted four days before the Oct. 1 launch of the Obamacare website, even though it was “deemed as a high (security) risk,” according to CBS News.(snip) “Nothing can undermine public confidence more than the fear of a security and privacy breach,” Georgetown Law professor Lawrence Gostin said. “You could have somebody hack into the system, get your Social Security number, get your financial information.” Despite
President Obama apologized Thursday to Americans who are losing their health insurance despite his repeated promises that they wouldn’t, an unusual act of contrition for a president who has come under heavy criticism for misleading the public. “I am sorry that they, you know, are finding themselves in this situation, based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said in an interview with NBC News. “We’ve got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and that we’re going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as
President Obama said Thursday that he is "sorry" that some Americans are losing their current health insurance plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act, despite his promise that no one would have to give up a health plan they liked. "I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me," he told NBC News in an exclusive interview at the White House. "We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them, and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this," he added.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will meet with President Obama at the White House Thursday afternoon to plot strategy for passing comprehensive immigration reform. McCain said Obama requested the meeting, which comes at a time political momentum for immigration reform is flagging. “I’m going over to the White House this afternoon to meet with him [on] immigration reform and others,” he said. “I actually have a respectful and cordial relationship with him.” McCain and Obama need to shore up the support of wavering allies such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has backed off the push to overhaul the nation´s immigration laws in a
PRESIDENT OBAMA: You know, I regret very much that what we intended to do, which is to make sure that everybody is moving into better plans because they want ´em, as opposed to because they´re forced into it. That, you know, we weren´t as clear as we needed to be in terms of the changes that were taking place. And I want to do everything we can to make sure that people are finding themselves in a good position -- a better position than they were before this law happened. Keep in mind that most of the folks who are
On ESPN’s Around the Horn, frequent guest Kevin Blackistone of the Dallas Morning News said that football games should not include the singing of the national anthem beforehand, as that added to the “military symbolism.” He actually called the Star-Spangled Banner a “war anthem.” Blackistone was addressing controversy over Northwestern University’s American flag-themed football uniforms, designed to raise money for the Wounded Warriors Project. In a show segment titled “Buy or Sell,” Blackistone said that he would “sell” the uniforms: I´m going to sell it for the same reasons. If you sell this along with me, you should also be selling the
Blind men see, the lame walk, dogs speak Latin. And in other news in miracles, President Barack Obama just apologised for something. In an interview with NBC news on Thursday he said "sorry" that some Americans are losing their health insurance as a result of Obamacare coming into effect--and for promising that this wouldn´t happen. [Snip] His words will be small comfort to the millions who risk losing their existing plans, but it´s still a moment of historical significance to hear Barack Obama apologise for screwing up. And he screwed up big time. We now know that members of the
You must understand, no matter what President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid say, that ObamaCare was designed for failure, not just for itself but all the insurance companies involved. When a poison pill is ingested into the system, the body starts to die, killing off the healthy organs and itself in the process... leaving a void for something far worse to take its place. It has been the progressive´s dream since 1912 to introduce national healthcare and control one-sixth of the nation´s economy. Now that they are so close to the finish line, they needed one final push to send
New U.S. ambassador to the UN Samantha Power didn´t waste her diplomatic skills on Vietnam veterans at a New York speech, praising actress Jane Fonda for "being outspoken on behalf" of her convictions. Power, 43, was speaking at the United Nations Association of the USA 2013 Global Leadership Awards in New York Wednesday, where honorees included Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who survived being shot in the head by Taliban thugs and is now an education advocate for girls. “Hi everybody,” Power said, according to a transcript. “You know life has changed when you’re hanging out with Jane Fonda backstage. There is
NEW ORLEANS- President Obama vented his frustration with his broken healthcare insurance website Friday, joking that he “wanted to go in and fix it myself but I don’t write code.” “We’ve had this problem with the website,” Obama told a crowd during a visit to the Port of New Orleans. “I’m not happy about that but we’re working overtime to make sure it gets fixed. I promise.” The president’s brief comments on his struggling healthcare law came amid a call for bipartisan cooperation on his economic proposals. Obama argued that investment in roads, bridges and ports should gain broad support
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell likes to say, “If someone flicks a pebble at you, you hurl a boulder back at him.” His political team is just as emphatic. Some Republicans in Kentucky who flirted with working for his primary opponent, Matt Bevin, were told by the McConnell allies that they would get the “death penalty.” Another frequent warning: “Mitch McConnell doesn’t take prisoners.” McConnell’s team “shoots the wounded on the battlefield as a matter of course,” says University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato. A former GOP leadership aide who has seen the McConnell operation up close sounds terrified. “They’re all
‘If you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan. Period.” How serious was this lie, repeated by Barack Obama with such beguiling regularity? Well, how would the Justice Department be dealing with it if it had been uttered by, say, the president of an insurance company rather than the president of the United States? Fraud is a serious federal felony, usually punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment — with every repetition of a fraudulent communication chargeable as a separate crime. In computing sentences, federal sentencing guidelines factor in such considerations as the dollar value
The Senate passed historic gay rights legislation Thursday to bar discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in the workplace, another victory for the gay rights movement that has been gaining favor in the courts and electoral politics. Senators voted 64 to 32 to approve the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The vote marked the first time lawmakers had approved legislation to advance gay rights since repealing the military’s ban on gay men and lesbians in uniform in late 2010 and came two days after Illinois became the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Just four months ago the U.S. Supreme
