Sen. Schumer Asks Gun Retailers To
Stop Sales As Congress Debates

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:PChristopher, 1/14/2013 1:57:13 AM

Sen. Charles Schumer says retailers that sell assault weapons should stop offering them for purchase while Congress discusses gun regulation legislation. Schumer on Sunday released a letter he sent to major retailers asking for a voluntary moratorium. The New York Democrat says consumer demand for guns has gone up in the weeks since the December mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Comments:
Senator Schumer? Could you please stop talking while we´re selling guns? Thanks awfully, old boy!

This is nothing but a set up. If dealers go along with it,they can say "see,we really don´t need to be selling these..

Senator Schumer, how about we suspend all armed security provided to congress while they discuss gun regulation legislation? Also let´s close all those guarded tunnels that run from one federal building to another, so congress people don´t have to expose themselves to the unwashed ordinary citizens up above. Just paint a big sign on the Capitol saying, "gun free zone"? Tell the Capitol guards to leave their firearms in the front office, while locking up the ammo in a separate room. There. That ought to do it. You´ll show your sincerity , right?

If you have your license to carry concealed in Texas, you can carry in the capitol moving amongst all the political critters. Funny world we live in Texas. We seceded 150 years ago but we believe in the Constitution, and even secession was likely Constitutional.

It would have been interesting to see if Sumter was recognized as US property and allowed to exist as well as other forts and bases, what would have happened. Just a curious mental exercise.

The names of the six-member jury panel that acquitted George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin have been made public for the first time, after a new court order, records show. Circuit Judge Debra Nelson, who had previously ordered the jurors´ identifying information be kept confidential, granted access to the names in a ruling March 21. Zimmerman´s defense asked the judge in June to keep the names secret until six months after the verdict. (Snip) Attempts to reach the jurors by phone and in-person Thursday were unsuccessful.

Senators blocked President Obama’s nominee to lead the Justice Department’s civil rights division Wednesday in a bipartisan filibuster, with opponents saying his history defending a convicted cop-killer in the Supreme Court made him a poor choice. The defeat of Debo P. Adegbile, who as an attorney for the NAACP backed appeals by former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal, is a major blow to Mr. Obama. Officials say Obama may retaliate by canceling a trip to Russia this summer for an international summit and could also cut off trade discussions with Moscow. But it´s unclear whether those moves will have any impact on Russia´s calculus in Ukraine, which is at the center of what many see as a tug of war between East and West. "Any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing," Obama declared Friday

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.
