U.S. states flirt with
major tax changes

Chapel Hill, NC - Hopes for overhauling the federal tax system are fading in Washington, but in some state capitals, tax reform experiments - some far-reaching - are fast taking shape. Across the South and Midwest, Republicans have consolidated control of state legislatures and governorships, giving them the power to test long-debated tax ideas. Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal, for instance, called on Thursday for ending the state´s income tax and corporate taxes, with sales taxes compensating for lost revenue. A similar plan is being pushed by Republicans in North Carolina. Kansas...

Another article on the subject. Generally speaking, Texas sales tax does not include "groceries", prescription drugs and most OTC drugs. Ideally, coffee, tea and bottled water (because "some" don´t have clean water) no; "evil" soft drinks yes. Fruits and vegetables, no; cookies and candy, yes. In the debate, "essentials", no sales tax; "non-essentials" and "luxuries" yes. This neutralizes many of the arguments posed by the left. The resourceful "single mom" would never have to pay a single penny of sales tax to feed her family, and she would not "harm" her children with such "poor nutrition choices".

As taxpayers have increasingly become aware that they are but paying for blatant political cronyism, corruption in the political arena/media cobal, and all sorts of deceitful statist policies deemed by bloated BIG Government, naturally they are inclined to, ´flirt,´ with tax changes! ...´´It doesn´t take a rocket scientist,´´ to figure out this socialistic taxation problem.

Remember, the U.S.A. was founded DIRECTLY because of overtaxation by a tyrannical BIG Government´s dictates. Such irresponsible overtaxation usurps each individual´s INHERENT freedom every-which-way! Today´s stastist pols are usurping freedom in the same way by using taxpayer´s money irresponsibly, frivilously and by actually making and breaking specific entreprenaurs, even at these some unethical pols engrandise themselves with unmerited riches, paid for by the American taxpayers. Greed & corruption have replaced ethics and morality since the ´60s radicals got tenure in leadership positions.

Just as unions have come to fund leftist political causes which are totally contrary to the personal beliefs & preferences of individuals within their membership, so too has the current BIG Governmental outrageous spending follies come to exclusively fund biased statist policies which are contrary to the Constitution´s principles of authentic Life, Liberty and Justice for ALL.

The American Presidents swear an oath to support the U.S. Constitution, as do the members of Congress and the Judicial Branch. But instead of respecting their own oaths and supporting Constitutional principles, too many elected officials are in competition with the union bosses for personal enrichment and power. That brief realization, in a nutshell, is the challenge facing voters and every hard working taxpayer.

One of the best things republicans in the states can do is the opposite of what Obama is doing on the federal level. The results should be obvious and make good campaign fodder.

The left wants to make America weak, in the end they may end up just making the federal government weak.

States are having to pick up where the Federal Government is failing. It will be interesting when the Federal Government´s monetary system collapses, and the State´s have to step in to prevent a national economic collapse. Hopefully, States will soon start experimenting with independent monetary systems that can survive the dollar collapse. Looks like they could start accepting tax payments in Gold or start issuing state bonds that pay out in something other than dollars -- then divide down the bond amounts to values near the value of a dollar bill. We could then begin using them for money (or could when the dollar collapses.) I´d much rather have my 401K filled with Texas bonds that paid out in Gold, than in US Treasury bills that pay out in dollars.

The conservatives are "activists" and the lib is an "expert."

That kind of bias gets inside the public bloodstream and few recognize what´s going on.

The real problem is that we are being taxed to pay for things that we do not agree with or approve of. I would not mind paying my fair share if others were also paying theirs, and not just voting themselves mine. If everyone had to pay taxes on their purchases, drug dealers, people getting paid under the table, and any other type of tax avoidance scam people would be required to pay up. Then you would see some real screaming.

You know who is going to take full credit for any state tax reform right? Specially if it proves successful. The repubs will not sign any document or policy to say ´we did this´ so vote accordingly. Instead, the dems will take credit while continuing to plunder on the spending.

Some of the superlative genius of our federal system demonstrated. Thank you, Founders.

Taxes on business are a bad idea for two reasons. a. taxes on business simply add to the selling price of the product or service. The tax-cost must be passed along to consumers. b. taxes on business require businesses to get involved in politics, to fend off interference, keep price-burdening taxes as low as possible, and to combat favors sought and gotten by competitors. Note that none of those things are a net benefit to anyone... but the politicians. See post #4.

#2: Thank you for a literal LOL. Clever post, very clever.

#10: At the Federal level, the real issue is to limit spending to what is legitimately authorized by the citizens for the central gov´t to do.

France will lose its best footballers due to President François Hollande’s “crazy” 75 per cent tax on millionaire earners, the country’s football league warned on Tuesday, after a failed attempt by leading players to avoid the levy. The supertax, a key electoral promise, has already sent several Gallic public figures, including Gérard Depardieu, the actor, running for fiscal cover. The levy, which looked like it was going to be shelved, was revived last week by the Socialist president, who stipulated that companies, not individuals, will now foot the bill.

Denver - A popular hunting shotgun could be banned under one of the bills moving through the state Capitol. A pump or semi-automatic shotgun is the gun most hunters in Colorado use. It’s a gun state Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, says could be banned under a bill that’s already passed the House and Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll sign. “They’re coming after the standard shotgun,” Brophy told CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd. Brophy says if Democrats succeed in passing a bill limiting large capacity magazines in Colorado, they’ll outlaw the most popular selling firearm for hunting.

NPR reports on a new federal cost-cutting move: Every month, the government sends out about 5 million checks to Americans who receive federal benefits. On March 1, the Treasury Department is making those paper checks a thing of the past. Since May 2011, all new Social Security recipients are required to get direct deposit of their benefits. Some 93 percent of all recipients now do. But there are still holdouts, so the Treasury Department started a campaign and a website, Go Direct, in an effort to convince the remaining 7 percent.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school.
