| A 23-year-old woman from Brooklyn, New York, has won the title of Miss America - beating out 13,000 other contestants including the pageant’s first autistic contestant and a woman with Tourettes. Mallory Hagan won the beauty pageant on Saturday night after tap dancing to James Brown´s ´Get Up Off of That Thing´ in Las Vegas and answering a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying the nation should not fight violence with violence. Hagan defeated Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, who took second, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, who finished third.

It looks like all awards, from the Nobel to the ´´beauty´´ pagents are irrelevant now. It is all political correctness now. Contestant´s minds must be ´´right´´ and their speech carefully crafted to regurgitate the desired themes. None are worth watching any more.

she should read up on the people in DC who have kids in private schools with armed guards protecting their little darlings. This also included the people in MSM. I think if O is serious about how safe the country would be if all guns were taken away should begin with example and dismiss his secret service personal. Just let Michelle tell everyone that this is the law spoken by her husband and voila, the problem will no longer exist, N´est pas?

Right...fight violence with photo shoots, not guns!
Ya´ know, every time one of these supposed ´exemplary´ young ladies opens her mouth at one of these ´meat viewing´ competitions, I can´t help but recall the old hippy bumper sticker...
"Visualize Whirled Peas!"
The absolute vapid mental state of ´progressives´ is on display daily as an utter lack of reality. Oddly - liberals think it´s the *only* reality. Must be why they piled up a quarter billion corpses last century vying for that ´Utopia´ thing...
You´d think a bright bimbo would at least comment on the spectacular death rate of youth attributable to alcohol.

It´s fine with me if those libs who are not hypocritically using gun-wielding people to protect them, elect to not protect themselves and their loved ones.
I, however, are prepared to do just that if necessary.
Worked with lovely folks from the Phillipines and asked then how Marcos was able to take and hold the country for years - answer: "first they took away our guns. You cannot fight men with guns, when you have nothing."

I thought all the questions asked lacked any shred of merit - - and three tapdancers, a twirler, a modern dance contortionist, crooners and piano players in the final 10 - not much real talent anywhere there. But then that is Miss America 2013 style - and donuts for the losers - tacky tacky.

Back in the 1960s, Miss Wisconsin´s talent was shooting a bow and arrow. And the new Miss America said something so stupid, I was amazed! "You can´t fight violence with violence!" Tell that to the police, or as others have noted, those upper class parents who hire armed guards...

I watched most of this thing last night, at least my tv was showing it and I looked at it periodically.
Certainly some more attractice women were eliminated all the way down, but Miss NY had a little more style than most.
As usual, I could probably find 50 better contestants by watching grocery store lines for a couple of hours, but they might not really want to trot around on stage in thrift store bikinis.

Just as NY has to import their senators (at least HRC) they seem to need to import their beauty pageant contestant winners.

After picking a few from the total 53 I had chosen the 3 of the 5 who gave good answers to questions: Wyoming regarding good parents teaching kids truths instead of perscriptions; South Carolina said the sports amnouncer had every right to call Alabama´s girlfiend beautiful & I have forgotten Oklahoma´s answer but it was conservative. I´ll bet if Texas had been given a question in the 5 on guns she would have given a great answer. Bet the judges were split between NY & SC like our country.

I don´t really understand how a southern woman, born and raised in the very, very southern town of Opelika, Alabama can be Miss New York. She´s lived there for what, 3 years?! If I were Miss Alabama I would be furious! Competition is much tougher down in Dixie, there is simply no question about that.

Some girl got skewered a while back for giving her honest opinion on gay marriage and was forever branded. The choice of NY over SC is laden with many political symbolism. The culture war isn´t over until they kill every last one of us. They may be winning battles but they haven´t won the war as long as there are people who believe in decency and affect the people they are around. The war is won one individual at a time and we need to persevere. The Left will not win in the end because their way of lawlessness and personal irresponsibility leads to ruin for those who imbibe their koolaid.

The exceedingly messy lawsuit between Arthur “Terry” Newmyer and Sidwell Friends School is headed for trial—and the circle of high-profile Washingtonians wrapped up in the case is expanding. At a hearing last week, DC Superior Court judge Michael Rankin set a trial date of November 18, 2013. Newmyer first filed suit against Sidwell and its former psychologist in May 2011. WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

With all due respect to Mother Jones´s conversation-leaker-in-chief David Corn, the recordings published today of a conversation between Sen. Mitch McConnell and some consultants disparaging Ashley Judd is not news. It´s the sausage being made. We´ve got full background here, but the toplines are this: Corn got hold of a conversation apparently recorded during a presentation by consultants to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell´s reelection campaign. The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.

As he continues guiding the Senate toward eventual consideration of proposals to curb gun violence, Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) invoked his father’s suicide Tuesday as he once again pleaded with Republicans not to block legislation under consideration. During his morning remarks on the Senate floor, Reid recalled receiving a 12-gauge shotgun ordered from a Sears catalog for his 12th birthday and made reference to incidents of gun violence in his home state of Nevada, including the 2010 shooting at a Las Vegas federal building. He also noted that as a young state legislator, he sponsored a bill

The invitation explains attendees get “a frank and intimate discussion with the president” where they can ask questions, and afterward Obama will “say thank you to each guest and take a photo with them.” A Weinstein-hosted fundraiser in August brought out

A homeless man, oblivious to President Obama’s passing motorcade, took BB gun practice in the nearby woods and refused to drop his weapon when confronted by Connecticut cops, officials said today. Obama was speaking yesterday at the University of Hartford when police, stationed along the president’s route to Bradley International Airport, heard noises coming from a nearby wooded area around 5:50 p.m., said Bloomfield police Capt. Stephen Hajdasz. A detective from the neighboring town of Simsbury ordered the man — identified as 27-year-old Joseph Stravinskas — to drop what appeared to be a rifle, according to Hajdasz.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

Annette Funicello, the dark-haired darling of TV´s “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950s who further cemented her status as a pop-culture icon in the ´60s by teaming with Frankie Avalon in a popular series of “beach” movies, died Monday. She was 70. Funicello, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and became a spokeswoman for treatment of the chronic, often-debilitating disease of the central nervous system, died at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, Walt Disney Co. spokesman Howard Green said. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. Remember the clap-happy report from Dennis Rodman´s diplomatic basketball vacation? This video comes courtesy of the same Youtube channel that gave us that Rodman video. It appears to be the same state news channel.(Snip for video)This latest dispatch from North Korea´s state television

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
