This is the kind of thing Frank Luntz was talking about in his article today. The Republicans may mean well, but they come across ham-fisted in the approach. If Republicans want to cut some things out, they need to be upfront with both compassion and talking about how their plan to help the victims would be more successful.

Trimming $33 Billion would be a good start.

These "victims" should have bought their own insurance, or if unwilling to do so or if insurance is unavailable, they assumed the risk by living there. Or let their "Progessive" states pay for it.

In this day and age, all bills put before Congress were wrtten on a computer. How much trouble would it be to download this bill into a government website so us peons can read what is in it? A couple of keystrokes and there it is.

The reason Congress does not do this lies in the fact we would vote against each and every one of them should we taxpayers see where our money is going.

At some point, people who live on the coast have to understand that they are vulnerable to storms like this. It is not the responsibility of those inland to pay for the losses they sustain. Likewise, it is not the responsibility of the coastal dwellers to pay for tornado damage in Oklahoma. BUY INSURANCE! Quit tapping the government teat every time something happens.

Conservatives should show the same "compassion" as liberals showed during the tornado strikes in Tuscaloosa and Missouri...or when Nashville was washed away. Like three year olds, liberals are the first one to cry for mommy when the excretment hit the fan. Conservatives will NEVER be viewed as ´conpassionate" - regardless of what they do. The media context of "heartless" is set in stone whenever Conservatives push back in any way....

I applaud those who utilized earth from the foundation of the World Trade Center to raise flood plain by 4 feet. Mother nature has just demonstrated that they should have raised half the area by 8 feet. The original developers, the city, and the current owners need float a bond issue remedy the earlier oversight. This was a mistake, not an excuse to pick the taxpayers pockets.

Roughly 10 years ago a tropical depression slowly circled Houston and dumped a record amount of rain. The Medical Centers knew that electrical in the basement was a mistake that needed fixing but hadn´t acted. Those New Yorkers with electrical in basement knew they had to correct the placement and had Houston as an example.

The good news, interest rates have never been so cheap.

The Republicans are the worst at messaging. Although, anyone with common sense could see that, yes, infrastructure projects are "pork" in a bill of this type, but clearly our country is lacking common sense or it wouldn´t be in the mess we´re in now.

So much money to improve weather forcasting? There was plenty of warning! There was no lack of forecasting with Sandy. People refuse to heed weather warnings now, and they will in the future.

Not only the removal of $30 Billion of pork in this bill, but a repeal of the $76 Billion of "Tax Extenders" in the Fiscal Cliff Bill should be sent back to the Senate for Passage. The Sandy Victims are being used as hostages to get this "Special Interest" pork through.
