Everybody knows a Walt Kowalski. He is the grizzled Korean War veteran Clint Eastwood played in the movie Gran Torino. A man who spends his days sitting on the porch, keeping his house and yard immaculate, satisfied to drink his cheap beer while watching his neighborhood and country go to hell around him. I have had this conversation many times-- I cannot believe that the majority of our armed forces would obey commands to fight fellow Americans.

If that order ever came, I think you´d see a military coup faster than you can say "To Hell with Obama".

We vets have long memories and short tempers. We gave years of our lives and all too often much more than that to keep this nation free. We aren´t going to idly sit by and let those freedoms that we fought for be shredded by the current crop of politicians.

Donald Rumsfeld was vilified in the press for calling the terrorists ´´dead-enders´´. What he meant was, these were the stragglers that had nothing left to live for except to cause as much chaos before their martyr´s demise. I contend that there are Walt Kowalskis patiently waiting, cleaning their weapons, and amassing ammo. At the point where Obama transforms America to no longer be recognizable, an army of dead-enders will be unleashed...and it won´t go well for the Feds.

I am not a veteran, nor is my father but both of us have come to the point in our lives where the things we love, family, country, God, our unborn grndchildren, mean far more to us than life or liberty.

That is a force no army can truly counter. It is not a conviction anyone under the age of about 50 cannot really understand. It comes with age, with reaching the point where you can start to feel you´ve had a good long life. One starts to feel a very heavy weight of what we owe the ones we love who have just started their lives. At that point the fear of forfeiting ones life or liberty loses its power. An army of such men and women can achieve unbelievable things.

My Timber King, a Marine veteran of two tours in Vietnam, is heartsick over the "transformation of America" and believes the oath he took has no expiration date. He never expected domestic enemies would come to include the federal government.

Personally, I´m ready to stand proudly at his side especially after this week. For some reason my small town pharmacy has been unable to get Estratest (hormone replacement pills - or anti-divorce pills as the TK calls them) since January 2nd. They gave me the last 3 they had. I´ve been hormonally deprived for one week now. (Is this the Obamacare "war on women"?)

I´m aching for a fight and this week has brought to mind a new tactic: Tens of thousands of conservative post-menopausal women can voluntarily go off their meds for one week, THEN we march on D.C.

Jus sayin.

I don´t know about that #6. My guess is they will follow orders ... for a while, but I believe that at some point they will change. They followed orders in the Civil War, they followed orders at Waco, they will follow orders until they see the light. Many will die on both sides if it came to that. Just sayin.
What they can´t do is occupy the country. They can´t post enough men to control 25 million scattered across the country. Where they going to quarter them, in the houses of the ´enemy´? Good luck and sleep tight and have another drink with that. There would also be a Galt effect that would make it difficult for them to sustain a long action.

This piece and the above comments brought to mind the action of the Current US Military Chief of Staff, General Dempsey, USA.

In the days following Benghazi, he personally called the minister of a small Florida Church and asked him to refrain from criticizing Islam. THE senior military of officer calling a civilian, a Christian pastor, and "suggesting" he not express his opinions concerning Islam.

This truly outrageous and illegal act by a military member got next to no coverage by the news media.

Things are indeed changing, and as a retired 33 year active duty veteran, I concur with the Ldotter thoughts above.

Most of the senior general officers are politicians. I was shocked to find out that David Petraeus only had an EIB not a CIB and that all of his fruit salad was "I´ve been there at such and such a time" I think it will come down to the Colonels, it usually does (and the NCO´s of course) As for the dangerous old men: They´re old, don´t have a lot left except their honor and love of country, their families are grown and on their own, they have skill sets, many of which aren´t too useful in polite society, they´ve been there and done that and they have survived things that most can´t imagine. My 65 year old, Vietnam Veteran Father just bought his first AR-15 (well, second, if you count the one he carried over there). He is truly worried about the country he will leave for his grandchildren.

His Federal Agent (me) and Police Officer sons will not participate in confiscations. He raised us right.

As the House prepares for several key votes on former Internal Revenue Service employee Lois G. Lerner and potential legal action, analysts say she and her attorney have mishandled their case by picking and choosing when they want to talk, and to whom they are willing to talk.
