I live in Nevada, and the NRA endorsed Dingy Harry in 2010. I let my membership expire after that.

I had a friend tell me the other day that Harry Reid didn´t pay any taxes last year.

Just as #1, when LaPierre went to the gun range with Reid and gave him an endorsement, I called NRA headquarters to tell them not to send another magazine and that I would be letting my membership lapse. It must have been a rough day at headquarters because the phone representative was very defensive and argumentative about LaPierre´s actions. The NRA went on to endorse endangered liberal democrats running for the Texas legislature.

I am now a member of Gun Owners of America and the Texas State Rifle Association.

Well, this is surprise. Thanks OP, and other posters, for the information. I´m not a member of any of the three organizations mentioned but I did get an invite from the NRA recently with a card embossed with my name and everything. It will sit for a long time before I give them a dime.

In the NRA´s defense, they are a single issue group. Their focus is on guns and nothing else. That is how they determine their endorsements and ratings.
If they took up the torch for other issues, they would alienate as many people as they would please; maybe more. They would also muddy the waters of their gun advocacy.
We are always free to vote for whoever we want. In my case it is not always the NRA endorsed candidate. Their ratings tell me how the individual stands on guns. That´s all. I am glad for that information. That´s what I pay them for.

Too many people on this thread ready to throw out the baby with the bathwater. I have been an NRA member for sixty years. I have seen enormous good done by the organization in defense of the Constitution. As to the Reid caper, LaPierre was sufficiently straitened by the membership that he is not likely to make a similarly gross mistake again. Join the NRA. There are damned few organizations left in this country that have the same concern for your rights.

It looks to me that LaPierre and Boehner have the same problem. On paper,they have favorable arguments but neither is very good at being a spokesman.

The left is trying to cash in on the emotion of the moment and we don´t have anybody who can say let´s slow down and look at this logically.
The left can come up with a poll in 10 seconds that says everybody agrees with them,when we know they don´t.They can also say Nixon and Bush abused exe. orders,so can Obama.

Obama and the media ignored the simmering backlash against Obamacare and their doing the same on guns.They really don´t have a clue on what they´re tinkering with.

It´s pretty funny to watch Obama and Biden step up their bloviating against guns while teachers and other people are figuring out real ways to deal with the problem.People in the Sandy Hook area want police on the beat.

Protecting yourself from criminals with guns was one thing,now you have young,white snapper heads,disillusioned with life,ready to go off any second.

The NRA made at least 3 misguided endorsements in 2010. In addition to Reid they backed Joe Manchin, a two faced democrat who gave the perverbial finger to the NRA about 5 minutes after the Connecticut school shooting. Then there is the Corey Gardner Colorado Congessional election in 2010. Gardner is a solid 2nd
Amemdmemt guy. He grew up in a ranch family and pursues a sincere mission to protect gun owners. He was up against a far left idiot incumbent Democrat Betsy Markey who posed as a friend of the NRA. They endorsed her. Gardner won easily and was reelected in 2012. Now I suppose the NRA fawns over Gardner, but I´m sure he won´t forget 2010. Everyone understands that the NRA is a single issue group and no one discounts their value. But I hope they learned the lesson that democrats who maintain strong NRA ratings cannot be trusted. In those instances the NRA is ell advised to stay neutral.

Tell him to lift the seat the next time. The country is getting tired of cleaning up after him.

There is plenty not to like about Wayne for various reasons, but he did get the pro-gun section written into Obamacare. That is a highly laudable achievement.

RE: other endorsements, no one gets it right 100% of the time.

Well I would agree with this if there was a pattern of guns backfiring or misfiring or doing whatever they could do that unintentionally harmed people (like an SUV that rolled over when it shouldn´t).

BUT IT IS NOT THE GUN, NEW YORK TIMES. IT´S THE PERSON HOLDING THE GUN!!
