Of all the bad arguments for

to humour Barack Obama

Telegraph [UK], by Daniel Hannan

Diplomats the world over tend to be the EU´s biggest fans: the system, after all, was designed by and for people like them. The US State Department has been consistently Euro-integrationist since the 1950s, pouring resources into various European pressure groups that shared its aim. Back in those early days, its concern was to build up the Western alliance. The EEC was seen as a way of strengthening Nato and keeping countries out of the Soviet camp. We can argue about whether that rationale was valid even in the 1950s; it certainly hasn´t been since 1989. After the end of

Four Al-Qaeda militants have reportedly been killed in a US drone attack in Yemen. It comes as America has warned all ´non-essential´ US citizens to evacuate Yemen immediately amid fears of a terrorist attack. The UK Foreign office has also withdrawn embassy staff from the country and is advising against all travel there. The U.S. has pummeled terror leaders in Yemen with targeted drone strikes. Yemeni security officials have today said a suspected U.S. drone killed the four alleged Al Qaeda members in a volatile eastern province of the country. The drone fired a missile at a car carrying

Somewhere down there, Richard Nixon must be rubbing his hands with glee. The Graham family have been forced to sell The Washington Post--the liberal newspaper that helped bring down Tricky Dick with its coverage of the Watergate burglary. Nixon hated the Post for the not unreasonable reason that it hated him. It wasn´t just the pursuit of Watergate that irritated, but the climate that the daily helped create of liberal disdain for his presidency--its insistence that anyone with a fully functioning heart and brain voted Democrat. That attitude wouldn´t have mattered if print didn´t enjoy such a monopoly over the

US intelligence picked up on messages in which Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden´s successor, ordered Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the head of its Yemen branch, to carry out an attack. The messages represent rare coordination between al-Qaeda´s core leadership, which is in hiding in Pakistan, and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the terror group´s most dangerous offshoot. In response the US has ordered the unprecedented closure of embassies in 19 countries across the Middle East and Africa until at least Saturday. Britain, Germany, France and Holland have also closed their embassies in Sana´a, the Yemeni capital, until later in the week.

President Obama has replaced Republican Mitt Romney as the most popular target for comedians, a study has revealed. [Snip] Obama was the target of 288 gags made by Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel, according to an analysis by the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University. The second most joked-about individual was New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, at 120. But as the study was conducted before Weiner´s second sexting scandal had come to light, the number of jokes aimed at him is expected to have jumped dramatically

Anthony Weiner´s sexting partner has stripped down for the public as she filmed a video for a major porn distributor. In the video, created by porn production company Vivid, Leathers is seen disrobing from various lingerie sets and displaying the assets that many feel cost Weiner his

A Texas man dramatically turned the tables on two bank robbery suspects who had abducted him and his wife on Thursday, by pulling a gun on the duo and shooting them both, killing one. According to KHOU, the unnamed couple were targeted by brothers Jordan, 20, and Preston Kutach, 21, who knew that the woman worked at the First National Bank of Eagle Lake in Columbus, near Houston. The suspects kidnapped the couple at gunpoint in their own home, then made them drive to the bank where they forced the woman to withdraw cash. But then her husband struck back

Iran´s new president Hasan Rouhani has accused the United States of seeking an excuse to confront the country over its nuclear programme. The new leader reportedly made the claim during a meeting with North Korean official Kim Yong Nam, who is in the Iranian capital Tehran to see Mr Rouhani´s inauguration. According to Iranian state TV, the president said: ´We believe the United States and the Westerners are seeking an excuse to confront the countries that they do not consider friends.´ The West suspects Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons programme, a charge which Iran denies.

The U.S. State Department has extended the closure orders for 19 embassies and consulates across the Middle East and Africa for a week--amid fears of a ´strategically significant´ terrorist attack against Western interests. Officials are offering few details about the threat from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the arm of the terrorist organization that is based in Yemen, but at least one report indicates it could involve a terrorist attack mounted by people with explosives surgically-implanted inside them--bombs capable of passing undetected through airport security. Survivors of the Fort Hood massacre are suing the U.S. government for allowing a jihadist soldier to rise through the ranks unchecked because of ´political correctness´. Major Nidal Hasan, 42, is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for after launching an attack at the Texas Army post in November 2009. And on the eve of his trial, which is due to get underway on Tuesday, 148 victims and their relatives are launching a legal claim against the government for $750million (£491 million) for failing to prevent the killings from happening.

Chuck E. Cheese restaurants have been popular spots for kids´ birthday parties for decades. These days, however, the restaurants are a pretty popular spot to throw up your dukes, too, as a series of large brawls between the adults accompanying children has given the chain a bit of a black eye in the PR department. Just last week, two women were arrested following a brawl at a Chuck E. Cheese that involved more than 20 people. That same location has seen more than 80 emergency calls to 9-1-1 in less than two years. A few eeks earlier, a fight broke

In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu

Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes

For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.

Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating.

Common sense tells me that cops don´t need a Taser or a shotgun to subdue a 95-year-old man. When John Wrana was a young man, fit and strong and fighting in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, did he ever think he´d end this way? Just a few weeks shy of his 96th birthday, in need of a walker to move about, cops coming through the door of his retirement home with a Taser and a shotgun.

Police shot and killed an armed teen in the South Bronx early today after the suspect opened fire and refused to drop his gun, police said. Two rookie cops heard shots fired near East 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue around 3 a.m. and ran in the direction of fire, police said. The uniformed officers saw Shaaliver Douse, 14, of the South Bronx, chasing another person through the streets, according to cops. Douse, who was arrested in May on attempted murder charges for shooting a 15-year-old, fired at the man running on East 151st Street this morning, police said.

Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.
