| Hundreds of President Obama supporters were today left frustrated and disappointed after a computer glitch denied them any chance of attending the inaugural ball that was open to the public. Tickets for the black tie event at Washington Convention Center on January 21 were scheduled to go on sale on Monday morning. Then a technical mistake by distributor Ticketmaster meant that all available entries were snapped up on Sunday night, before they were even meant to be on sale. Ticketmaster emailed everyone who had registered an interest on Sunday, telling them that at some point on Monday they would

Lemme see if I understand this: The inaugural parties, at which no self-respecting person would attend, are being proclaimed ´sold-out´ before the time of sales?
1. Fake a sell-out; 2. Hire unionized security; 3.Give laundered attendance numbers; 4. Pocket the cash. For crooks, it is a win-win situation.

If you get the Rahm card you get a free beating every week for life. The Blago card gets you a free vacation at the country club of your choice.

To what advantage? Who except far left ringers would want to go to this "event" anyway? If it is scalpers who snapped up the tickets, they are probably going to get scalped themselves. The only reason I can think of is that Øbama people want to control every aspect t of it- no protesters- If Øbama campaign bought up the tickets, they can hand them out to cronies and keep the anti-Øbama crowd completely out. Very Hitlerian.

Its flavour may be more gentle than a conventional clove, but wild garlic adds a sweet pungency to many springtime dishes. Last spring a friend left a carrier bag hanging on my door. I could smell what was inside before I looked. She had returned from Wales with armfuls of wonderful wild garlic: green, lush and overwhelmingly pungent. Foragers have long known of wild garlic, also known as ´ramsons´ or ´ramps´ (Allium ursinum). In 1972 in Food for Free, Richard Mabey noted that ´for those who like their garlic strong, ramsons will prove magnetic´.

Analysis of commercially available rice imported into the US has revealed it contains levels of lead far higher than regulations suggest are safe. Some samples exceeded the "provisional total tolerable intake" (PTTI) set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by a factor of 120. The report at the American Chemical Society Meeting adds to the already well-known issue of arsenic in rice. The FDA told the BBC it would review the research. Lead is known to be harmful to many organs and the central nervous system.[Snip] Because rice is grown in heavily irrigated conditions, it is more susceptible

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.

I’ve been writing about media coverage of abortion for many years. And so have many others. If you haven’t read David Shaw’s “Abortion Bias Seeps Into The News,” published in the Los Angeles Times back in 1990, you should. That report also explains why we cover the topic here at GetReligion. But the thing is that I’m getting kind of sick of pointing out egregious bias only to see things not just remain bad but get worse. Just think, in the last year, we saw the media drop any pretense of objectivity and bully the Susan G. Komen Foundation
