Did posters read the article? Thompson is a gun owner, has served in the military, and offers some practical solutions. LaPierre´s "no negotiation" policy is going nowhere. As the study cited in the article shows, only 13% of Americans agree with that stance.

Free clue: No one has suggested that all teachers and principals be armed. Did you insert that into your ignorant statements to inflame the situation? Of course you did.

And here is another free clue: You do not know what an assault weapon is. Try to educate yourself, so you do not appear to be as stupid as you seem to be.

#3 it is a fool´s errand to negotiate away our God given rights. You seem to think the Right to Bear arms comes from the government and can be modified or revoked by a simple vote in Congress. Please read up on the Constitution and look up what "Shall Not Be Infringed" means.

Mr. Thompson is being ingenious with his words. ANY weapon, used in the wrong fashion, can be an assault weapon. It doesn´t matter if this man says he owns guns. In the current climate of democrats stealing every last thing they can from their fellow citizens, I don´t trust him. Pics of his weapons, or it ain´t happening. Isn´t that the slogan?

#3 If Thompson is really all he claims to be he would know the difference between my semi auto rifles and assault weapons. He would also know that The Second Amendmentb is not negotiable.

Thompson repeatedly refers to "assault magazines". What is that supposed to mean?

He claims he carried an "assault weapon" in Viet Nam. He must not have been in an infantry unit. We carried fully automatic rifles, not ´scary looking´ semi-autos.

Then he says everything should be on the table, but immediately excludes the idea of putting armed guards in schools.

It seems to me that the ones with the "no negotiation" policy are the Dems in the Congress.

Here´s the real solution. LUL. Lock up Lunatics. Make mental health professionals liable if they gloss over a known problem that results in a death. These are the people making judgements as to whether these madmen are out among us.

We need to go on offense against democrats.

The second amendment was added so citizens could protect themselves from an overly aggressive, tyrannical government - which this administration is looking more and more like.

The second amendment is not about hunting, target shooting or even home and personal defense.

Firstly, I don´t understand Dems who own firearms and remain Dems (or continue to retain their firearms). Do they think they´ll get an elitist exemption when any of their stupid laws go into effect? I believe that in former times (also currently) they were called "useful idiots".

Secondly, I am all for negotiating ... i.e., lets negotiate rescinding some of the currrent gun control laws that are on the books. I firmly believe that I (a private citizen) should be able to purchase and own any weapon that is available to the military. After all, in a confrontation with a bad government you shouldn´t automatically put yourself into a weaker position.

This US Rep from San Fran is so full of BS that I became slightly nauseous part way through the clip. He is the point man to go after the soccer mom vote.

This is all window dressing and slight of hand stuff. They are really going after full registration of all firearms so they can issue a list of what has to be turned in just as was done in Briton/Australia/New Zealand and was tried in Canada.

This Congress won’t go along with that but if we lose the House in 2014, we are done for. In the mean time, Obama will use Executing Orders and agency regulations to restrict and demonize gun owners and grease the skids for the 2014 election.

If this can’t be stopped politically, we as a nation are in for a heap big lot of trouble.

These Fascist in DC are devious and evil people who will settle for nothing less than total control of all Americans.

Their primary MO is to divide us into social factions, women against men, minorities against whites, on-the-dole against provides, useful idiots against free thinkers and of course wusses against gun owners.

Thompson´s biography states that he served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. It also states that his tour in the Army was from 1969-1972. The 173rd Airborne Brigade was in Vietnam from 1965-1971, so it is possible that Thompson saw combat. However, if he joined the Army in 1969, went through basic training, then infantry training, then Airborne school, before being assigned to the 173rd; it is possible that he arrived in the Nam just before the 173rd left for home. I am not writing this to impugn his record but to look for some clarification. Did he serve in actual combat? His bio makes no mention of any combat decorations. I cannot see a politician missing any opportunity to make himself look good. Was he "in the rear with the gear"? He says he carried an assault rifle in Vietnam. Quite true. He carried an M-16, a true, fully automatic assault rifle as defined by the Department of Defense. An AR-15, which he is calling an assault rifle, is not. It is a semi-automatic (i.e. a self-loader) that is incapable of fully automatic fire as configured. I am forever dumbfounded by these politicians who claim to have fought in wars against totalitarian regimes and yet work tirelessly to bring about the same in the United States.

I agree with Thompson on one thing: It is NOT gun control; it is people control that the statists seek.

I find it funny that the very same people who will vote to subsidize another 100,000 police officers (union building) will not support the idea of subsidizing armed guards in public schools. The republicans should come out on this big time. But they won´t.
