True to form, the New York Times saw out 2012 by publishing another apology for dictatorship. In his op-ed, Louis Michael Seidman -- Professor of Constitutional Law at Georgetown University - argues that the Constitution should be abandoned. The suggestion is so preposterous that it is tempting to dismiss the article altogether, but to do so would be to miss some very revealing implications. The article is not so much a suggestion of constitutional reform as an open call for dictatorship. Seidman begins by blaming the current governmental crisis, incredibly, on "obedience to the Constitution,"
It is stunning -even to those of us who have long since come to expect little from academia- to find that this man´s musings are what pass for legal scholarship and political wisdom in some quarters. That he holds a distinguished position at a famous school and is in a position to influence others is terrifying. For he does not even understand the nature and purpose of the United States Constitution - despite being credentialed as an expert on the subject! I would have difficulty believing this if he had not himself demonstrated it in his opinion piece. Here is a man who proposes eliminating the Constitution, or picking and choosing what to keep, who does not manifest so much as a glimmer of understanding as to what a constitution was ever deemed necessary to begin with. It is as though he is utterly unacquainted with the thousands of years of human history and political experience that were sifted and mined for the practical wisdom needed to found a self-sustaining republic. It is as though he knows nothing, absolutely nothing of the nature and behavior of human beings, their use and abuse of power, and the amply documented fates of governments elsewhere and in the past. This astonishing column rests upon a foundation of ignorance that, located in such a man and such an academic institution, can only be termed pathological. We are in even worse shape than I feared.
It would be a good thing indeed if the reelection of Dear Leader emboldens "progressives" to come out of their closets. I´m all for it, and will cheer them on every time they admit who they really are and what they really want, as this totalitarian professor does. The problem dealing with them is not their beliefs per se, but that they are so very clever at disguising those beliefs with "fairness" "equal rights" and "helping people" rhetoric. Far better that they come clean and admit that the Constitution is the roadblock in the way of their socialist/communist plans, and that they want it dismantled.
#7 says it for me, but infinitely better than I could. This G-Town clown must be related to the Princeton clown who is pushing euthanasia. They, and others like them, should be immediately dropped into some 3rd world hellhole and left to find their own ways out.
#7, you´re describing most LPs to a Tee - as they have been like this for the past 60+ years. They just knew enough to not broadcast their seditious beliefs until they ´felt´ they had a secure upper-hand. Just because they´re misinformed doesn´t make them any less a domestic enemy of the constitution, however. And that crowd is the most murderous on the face of this planet. Beware.
The Constitution is the basis of due process and equality under the law. How would Professor Seidman guarantee things like fair trials, voting rights for blacks and women and non-discrimination by the government without the Constitution? What if "the people" objected to free speech or a free press? What would stop the government from censorship? I actually have met Professor Seidman--when he was much younger. He was always carrying ideas to their logical extremes. But this is just crazy. Maybe he has lost it.
Obviously this constitutional law professor would only be happy with a government dictatorship operated by the liberal Democrats or progressives or whatever they should properly be called, and certainly not by politicians resembling Republicans or conservatives.
We are clearly in a Constitutional Crisis in America. We have a President who supposedly took and oath, and will do so again January 20 and 21 of this year, to uphold the Constitution of the United States. However, he is clearly not doing so. His near term plans to confiscate guns will be a brazen attempt to undermine the 2nd amendment. The Senate has violated the constitution by not passing a budget. We can not let these actions continue and must take immediate actions to overcome this crisis.
Will the Republicans in Congress attach this notion to the Democrat Party?
It is what many in the Democrat estabishment think, and believe, after all.
Would they state, "many prominent Democrats want to scrap the U.S. Constitution, and replace it with something else. Really? Starting to believe the Democrat party doesn´t like America, or believe in America. After all, our current president always talks about the need to change America, so I guess they think it´s not a very good place to be since they feel the need to change it. But, to what type of government, or country do they point to for guidance? Is this the Democrat party you remember?"
Leave it at that. Put the notion out there, and keep repeating the theme.
It will start to seep into those who vote Democrat but aren´t looking to change America like those Ivory tower elites. It might even start to sink into the underclass the Democrat party relies on (those mostly in inner-cities) that they´re being left-behind, on purpose, and used with little hope of climbing up the ladder.
Pray that as internet institutions of learning begin producing productive graduates who are actually capable of literate communication and linear logic, the Ivy’s will begin their inevitable slide into disrepute as houses of overpriced substandard education , known only for producing unemployable self-righteous insufferable snobs.
This is the conflict we are in and it´s high time to recognize it. We are not just in a struggle between different opinions regarding the constitution, but in a far more fundamental conflict between the belief in the power of the common people´s self government and statism.
We, the People have allowed the progressives/communists to gain control of academia and the government through apathy and political correctness. (PC a euphemism for willful blindness) If at the end of the day we allow them to disarm us, that will be the end of the Constitution and freedom in this country! We still have a choice but it is slowly but surely being taken away from us! The last choice will be to either live on your knees or die on your feet!
This is not exactly surprising. The Left say they are disappointed in Obama, not because he has pursued socialistic policies, but because he has not pursued them aggressively enough. Let´s remember that filmmaker Woody Allen was as incensed as anyone on the left over the polices of GW Bush, and thought he was the worst leader since Hitler, but thought it would be okay if Barack Obama was granted dictatorial powers for "awhile" until he could get the country under control. This is why the people of this country need the military grade weapons the left fears so much. It is our duty to resist this impending tyranny. DO NOT DISARM. DO NOT REGISTER YOUR WEAPONS. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE FINGERPRINTED LIKE A COMMON CRIMINAL. RESIST!!
We have no rights unless we have the courage to fight for our rights. If we don´t have the courage to fight, those who want to enslave us will do so. If you are afraid to pull a trigger in defense of your rights, just put you hands behind you back and take what comes.
Leftists are like the pre-Reformation church: once you are an approved member you can say and do almost anything without fear of sanction. In addition, the church will persecute anyone who speaks against you.
Informed consent is a big deal in health care. And it should be. (snip) Once a woman says she wants an abortion, medical standards and norms change. If the process of getting informed consent involves making the unknown, known, the process in the abortion industry is all about unknowing. When I regrettably and wrongly had an abortion many years ago, no one at Planned Parenthood explained anything to me -- and I mean nothing -- about my baby´s development. No one even showed me a picture of a 3-month old baby in the womb.
San Diego mayor and veteran Congressman Bob Filner is a serial molester of women who enjoyed immunity from exposure by his friends in the media who "pretty much knew" about his abuses but chose to ignore them as a non-story. We know this because a brave member of the San Diego media crowd has admitted it.(snip) Scorn is the appropriate response. The San Diego media deserves a big helping of humiliation over covering this up. There is no profession more conscious of prestige than the media. Just look at all the awards they give each other.
As a black conservative tea party activist, I am extremely excited about Bill O´Reilly´s recent series of commentaries and TV shows addressing the hypocrisy and exploitation by the American race industry that has and continues to devastate the black community. O´Reilly boldly called out all of the usual suspects: Sharpton, Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and Obama. Eric Holder and others on the left have been whining and arrogantly scolding us saying that we need an honest discussion about race in America.
How is the U.S. like Sweden? In its low murder rate. That is, if you include in the statistics only non-blacks in the U.S. legally.(snip)In round numbers, there are about 250 million non-blacks in the U.S. legally. So their murder rate is about 1.0 per 100,000, or the same as Sweden´s. A murder rate of 1.0 is in the same league as the Europeans who like to call us gun-crazy cowboys. But it´s not the "cowboys" who are doing the killing. (In fact, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming have murder rates significantly lower than the U.S. average.
Poor lil´ Huma, croaks the liberal media. A wifey ensnared in her infamous husband´s sordid sexual adventures. Huma Abedin is a victim -- victimhood being a checkbox for libs and a handy excuse for anyone who runs afoul the law, stupid choices, indecency, laziness, Faustian deals with the devil, trumped-up racism, trumped-up homophobia, trumped-up xenophobia, real political corruption, hand-washing compulsion, and whatever else can be appended to victimhood. Poor lil´ Huma is a victim, all right. She´s a victim of her own self-willed choice; of a match made not much from kismet than cold calculation.
Remember when scientists and other truth-seekers used to get all riled up about the way the Catholic Church treated Galileo? The outcry was not over the fact that Galileo was a "peer-reviewed" researcher, and therefore beyond question. Quite the contrary: the argument was that, from the point of view of the quest for truth, no one, including the representatives of official orthodoxy and authority, ought to be regarded as beyond question. In the Michael Mann lawsuit against Mark Steyn and National Review, it is the "award-winning researcher" who is joining the fight for Church orthodoxy
Money can´t buy the kind of political boost Huma Abedin is receiving. Like her mentor Hillary Clinton, the stand-by-your-man strategy will be her gateway to widespread popularity and respect. Don´t feel sorry for the Democrats over losing a former rising star politician like Anthony Weiner, whose future is so hopeless that even the New York Times says it´s time to go. They have gained an even more promising candidate for high office. Huma Abedin is better-looking, better spoken, and more appealing than her role model.(snip)Although raised in Saudi Arabia, Ms. Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a natural born American.
Much has been made of Obama´s impromptu crashing of the press briefing at the White House the other day to weigh in yet again on Trayvon Martin´s death. The reception of Obama´s discussion reminded me of the movie The King´s Speech, where the man who would be king of England had to give just one good speech, so all of England would feel comfort. As in the movie, I chuckled at the big deal made by "reporters" that the man who is supposed to be a great orator and "Leader of the formerly Free World" did so without his "blankie,"
Now we have proof that the current Obama-Holder campaign against stand-your-ground laws is nothing more than a pose intended to distract from their political problems, having whipped up a racialist fury and pushed prosecution of George Zimmerman. Although State Senator Barack Obama could boast of few legislative accomplishments, one thing he did do was co-sponsor a bill strengthening the Illionois stand-your-ground law. The Illinois Review writes: The Obama-sponsored bill (SB 2386) enlarged the state´s 1961 law by shielding the person who was attacked from being sued in civil court by perpetrators or their estates
Did the IRS intervene in Federal election campaigns for Congress? According to the Washington Times, U.S. Treasury investigative special agent Dennis Martel has uncovered a new example of political abuse. On March 9, 2010, Christine O´Donnell´s personal income tax records were illegally accessed by a Delaware public official. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) reports that a previously-undisclosed "back door" to the IRS computer system was used to invade the privacy of Christine O´Donnell´s tax records. Who knew? It turns out that state government criminal investigators can directly -- though illegally -- access IRS records through a "back door."
We live in a time of extraordinary media corruption when testimony late last week tying a presidential political appointee to the IRS´ suppression of the president´s political opposition was widely ignored, except for Fox News and the conservative talk radio and internet ghetto. But at least one brave journalist in the MSM is speaking up about the disgraceful suppression of an important story of political corruption of the highest order. Mike Hashimoto, an editorial writer of the Dallas News, is bothered by this media corruption. He posted a blog Friday, calling out his employer and AP
We can now officially say that the IRS harassment of conservative groups is a political scandal connected to the Obama political machine. Despite the best obfuscatory efforts of Obama henchmen like Rep. Elijah Cummings, yesterday the IRS scandal was tied to a political appointee of President Obama. Step-by-step the chain is being followed upward (snip)Now we begin to prepare the vice to squeeze the Obama political appointee, perhaps making an immunity grant to Lois Lerner a possibility. Keep in mind, it is not an offer, it is an involuntary grant she cannot refuse.
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
