Dupe of the Year 2012
American Spectator, by Paul Kengor

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 1/4/2013 6:16:56 AM

Dupes comprise a long, dubious tradition in American history. Over 200 years ago, George Washington warned the nation about “dupes” in his historic Farewell Address. Such warnings would echo from the founding of the republic through the Cold War. During the Cold War, “dupe,” like the associated word, “useful idiot” — attributed to Vladimir Lenin — became an everyday term. Dupes were legion during the Cold War, a unique breed of (largely) left-leaning Americans who, unwittingly, allowed or enabled themselves to be deceived or misled by communist propagandists. Communists were natural liars, and liberals/progressives were their primary suckers.

While I agree that Buffett should certainly be considered for Dupe of the Year, I think Paul Kengor misses the fact that Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway and their railroad holdings have all benefitted from $-billions of crony capitalism legislation, regulations, set-asides, and outright grants.
Buffett has been duped all the way to the bank.

Actually, Buffett knew what he was doing and clearly profited from it, so I would call him a coup de dupe and not simply a dupe. No, I think the Dupe of 2012 award has to go to the low information voter, that Honey Boo Boo Whoop de Dupe that re-elected our first communist President long after it was clear to any semi-sentient being above an amoeba that he is indeed a communist.

Kengor really nails it here with the modern day dupe Obama voters. There´s a history of failures on Obama style policies but because he can speak good english and sound halfway intelligent, his supporters think he can outsmart the rudimentary failures of similar actions of the past.

Nobody is more a board certified commie than Hugo Chavez who´s squandered billions+ of his nation´s oil wealth. The US´s manufacturing base has been a huge source of America´s past success but it´s being flushed away by leftist sub groups. Companies have relocated overseas to avoid our sue happy tort conditions.

Environmentalists are standing in the way of new wealth creation because the benefactors don´t enrich them but their political enemies.

Everybody agrees living conditions in Russia are horrendous.Even though they´ve modernized on a very small scale, they´re still entrenched in their 1950´s style of government philosophy. Now they´ve trapped abused and neglected orphans on a way out.Honest Russian journalists disappear into thin air, something the left would love to do to Limbaugh,Fox etc.

Yeah, without a doubt, the Obama voter. And I regretfully include my own precious early-30´s, married with kids, daughter in that group.

I think what gets them is indeed his speaking voice, and his speaking mannerisms. Such as the head-swiveling (it hypnotizes them), the low sound to his voice (comforting), and ponderous words he uses (scripted in), and the way he connects his disconnected own thoughts with ´´aaaaaaaaaand.....´´ (makes them think he really is a person of great depth, intelligence, and magnitude).

God help us. Seriously, fall to your knees right now, bow your head, and pray this country can survive this coming 4 years.....

These lefty billionaires are nobody´s fools. They take full advantage of open markets, property laws and free enterprise. Their support of left wing causes and politicians has a dual purpose. To get good PR and to be at the feeding trough when the left parties they support step in and try to control the economic engine.

Kengor made a good choice here, but his dilemma must have been that there are so many to choose from. I lean toward selecting the Obama voter. It takes a stupid, selfish, poorly educated dolt to step into the voting booth and pull the lever for Obama. The Wizard of Omaha is none of these.

Oh, just WAY too easy. I think I´ll give it a miss.

Look at the tables he linked to. Check the "outlays" column. That´s actual spending.

Despite all the incessant wailing from socialists about "cuts" in the past, the last time actual spending decreased was in 1965. Nearly half a CENTURY ago. Every single year since then has seen an increase, sometimes by huge amounts. AND IT NEVER GOES DOWN!!!!

He benefits more than he pays as do Imelt, Sandy Weill, and the Goldman Sachs, JPMorgans, etc. The bastions of capitalism all want the government to do what they can´t competitively accomplish.

Scottsdale, Arizona -Barry Bonds certainly thinks he´s worthy of election to the Hall of Fame. "Without a doubt," baseball´s home run king said Monday at the San Francisco Giants´ spring training camp, where he will serve as a hitting instructor for a week. The 49-year-old Bonds spent his last 15 big league seasons with San Francisco, finishing in 2007 with 762 homers. But his final years were clouded by suspicions of performance-enhancing drug use, and the seven-time NL MVP was convicted of one obstruction count in April 2011 by a jury that found an answer he gave was criminally evasive during 2003 testimony

I t´s become commonplace to note that U.S. infrastructure costs are very high. What is less appreciated is the staggering scale of the difference between American infrastructure costs and those of other nations. Like our health care, U.S. infrastructure isn´t just a tad higher than the next most expensive country — we pay something like twice as much as our closest peer (usually the U.K., which is itself a very expensive place). And when you compare America to, say, Spain, we´re talking order-of-magnitude differences. In other words, Spain, a developed market democracy, gets 10 to 20 times as much infrastructure for its

FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Attorneys for an Army general charged with sexual assault have a deadline on Tuesday to decide on a judge´s offer to plea-bargain the case with a new set of military officials. Judge Col. James Pohl made the offer after finding evidence that the case against Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair may have been improperly influenced by political concerns. His decision threatened to take the case out of the hands of current prosecutors and gave Sinclair´s lawyers another shot at effectively stripping away the most serious charges. While Pohl declined to dismiss the charges, Sinclair´s lead lawyer
