| Patti Page, the apple-cheeked, honey-voiced alto whose sentimental, soothing, sometimes silly hits like “Tennessee Waltz,” “Old Cape Cod” and “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?” made her one of the most successful pop singers of the 1950s, died on Tuesday in Encinitas, Calif. She was 85. Her death was confirmed by Seacrest Village Retirement Communities, where she lived. A jukebox bio-musical - - featuring Patti´s songs - - recently opened on Broadway.
This was a lady of pure class as well as a beautiful voice. She was the first singer to overdub her own voice - - which started a trend which eventually degenerated into a cliché.
OK, Patti - - now shine that Allegheny Moon on all of us poor mortals.

Danced with her (be still my heart) when she sang at my school´s home coming dance in 1950.

This is sad news. I was a great fan of Patty Page from my childhood, when I used to watch her weekly TV show. And even as a child I loved her songs, especially "Old Cape Cod." She had a lovely voice. But more than this, she was a good woman who left showbiz to devote herself to her family. Still, it was a delight to her many fans later when she re-appeared (such as on public television tributes to the 50s). If her songs seem silly to some now, it´s only because of their cynicism. The 50´s were a more innocent time, and her music had great appeal for the family-oriented culture of the time. To us, she was a wonderful entertainer and a good human being. RIP with your Lord, Patty.

RIP Patti. I was in 3rd grade when "Doggie" was issued. I loved it. Patti was a class act throughout her career. Unlike Madonna, Minage, GagGaga, Britney and others. God Bless You, Patti for the enjoyment you brought us.

Patti Page was a class act and she showed care and concern for others.
I truly believe she was a Christian and one day I will see her again and get to know her in God´s eternal Kingdom prepared for those who Love Jesus.
How different this is compared to our current President, who flaunts God´s Word and uses people to his advantage.
Patti Page loved people and her smile was contagious - she was always polite and concerned about others.
I am sure there will be many more CDs sold of her beautiful voice. PBS continues to present many of the older singers who had God-given talents and sang from their heart.
Her family can be proud of her heritage. A woman of talent as well as character.

Patti Page had a delightful voice and could sing live - unlike 99% of female singers out there today who rely heavily on AutoTune and other machine-induced effects which make it sound as if they can hold a note. Patti is from an era when female singers were employed on the basis of their voices, not vices.

My mother loved to listen to her. Even as a little kid, I could recognize a beautiful voice singing "Tennessee Waltz."
Few singers today have such talent--or sing such lovely, plain-spoken lyrics.

Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.
