Lure of Green Cards Brings Big
Investments for Remote
Resort in Vermont

New York Times, by Katharine Q. Seelye

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 12/31/2012 4:04:55 PM

Jay Peak, Vt. - At this remote outpost by the Canadian border, Bill Stenger is overseeing what he says is the biggest economic development project that Vermont has ever seen. (Snip) But even more unusual than the size of the undertaking is the method by which Mr. Stenger and his business partner, Ariel Quiros, are financing it. They have tapped into a federal program that gives green cards, or permanent residency, to foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in an American business — the reward for the investment is a chance at United States citizenship.

Comments:
So, if you wonder what the dRATS are doing about stealing jobs needed for the American public now and getting tax benefits to become ´´millionaires," look at this article. This will be the next playground of the "rich." Who will picket them? Imagine Al Qaeda buying in. Hmmm.

Investors must put up $1 million for a visa, but if they invest in a rural area or one with high unemployment, that is reduced to $500,000.

I´ll wager that amount is not indexed for inflation, so expect the number of visas to explode as the dollar approaches reality. That said, unless they´re investing in greendoggles, I´m okay with this.

$500,000 is chump change for Pakistanis. They carry that much around in suitcase. They not only have tons of upfront money but plenty of cushion money if the business doesn´t take off right away.I knew a woman who ran a mall kiosk and had very poor revenues but the Pakistan owner was always out buying new stock even though it wasn´t selling. They have a feeding tube back to their own country and it wouldn´t surprise me if foreign aid gave them the resources.

If those rich foreigners enter into a good and profitable investment, they will get both their money back and permanent residency (A green card) and eventually US citizenship, you can´t beat that. The only problem is programs like that are wide open to big time fraud once a lot of foreigners start applying.

Most of those rich foreigners probably won´t even go through the entire US citizenship process that takes over 5 years, if they do, most will actually will be duel-nationals, having been granted US citizenship while keeping their home country citizenship.

Anyway once they get a "green card" that signifies permanent residency, they have got it made, as they can then come and go from the USA as they please, without almost any future immigration restrictions.

So far this has been a relatively small program, but in the future it may well be open season on American businesses and property by foreigners. Anytime the USA signs a free trade agreement the citizens of the foreign countries involved must be treated just as Americans are treated in financial transactions. So you can see a point where say the Chinese could start buying up tracts of American farmland now owned by families, turn those pieces of farmland into commercial farming operations and then hire American farmers to till the land under imported Chinese managers.

Why the Malaysia Airlines

Associated Press, by Scott Mayerowitzap    Original Article

The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.

Sepang - A Boeing 777 pilot, who was flying 30 minutes ahead of the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft, said he established contact with MH370 minutes after he was asked to do so by Vietnamese air traffic control. The captain, who asked to not be named, said his plane, which was bound for Narita, Japan, was far into Vietnamese airspace when he was asked to relay, using his plane´s emergency frequency, to MH370 for the latter to establish its position, as the authorities could not contact the aircraft. "We managed to establish contact with MH370 just after 1.30am and asked them if they have transferred into Vietnamese airspace.

Tacoma, Wash. - Immigrant-rights activists rallied outside the Northwest Detention Center on Saturday, while at least 750 detainees protested their treatment and called for an end to deportations with a hunger strike. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement department said on Saturday morning that 750 detainees had refused to eat and said they were on a hunger strike. Local immigrant activist Angelica Chazaro says the hunger strike started Friday as a protest of deportations as well as center conditions. "They want the deportations to stop, and to be reunited with their families and children," Chazaro says.

Russia, Ukraine feud over sniper carnage

Kiev, Ukraine - One of the biggest mysteries hanging over the protest mayhem that drove Ukraine´s president from power: Who was behind the snipers who sowed death and terror in Kiev. (Snip) Ukrainian authorities are investigating the Feb. 18-20 bloodbath, and they have shifted their focus from ousted President Viktor Yanukovych´s government to Vladimir Putin´s Russia — pursuing the theory that the Kremlin was intent on sowing mayhem as a pretext for military incursion. Russia suggests that the snipers were organized by opposition leaders trying to whip up local and international outrage against the government.

Beijing - China declared a "red line" on North Korea on Saturday, saying that China will not permit chaos or war on the Korean peninsula, and that peace can only come through denuclearization. China is North Korea´s most important diplomatic and economic supporter, though Beijing´s patience with Pyongyang has been severely tested following three nuclear tests and numerous bouts of saber rattling, including missile launches. Mr. Harper returned two days later and delivered an answer: American officials, he said, had no obligations under the rights accord when operating abroad. The Bush administration would amplify that claim after the Sept. 11 attacks — and extend it to another United Nations

Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey
