PRINCETON, N.J.- Americans named President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the most admired man and woman alive, a Gallup survey indicated. Clinton is the Most Admired Woman for the 11th year in a row, while Obama has been the Most Admired Man five years running, results of a USA Today-Gallup poll released Monday indicated. First lady Michelle Obama, television daytime host Oprah Winfrey and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice were behind Clinton on the Most Admired Woman list. Most admired among who? I doubt many people could even name PIAPS as the current SoS. They know The Won because he hates rich people and gives away free phones and food stamps, as well as certifies anyone with a splinter as eligible for disability payments.

Well, we know that Hugo Chavez admires them and has called Obama a "good guy." Moreover he, Vladimir Putin and the Castros strongly supported his re-election. Meanwhile, the left-wing democrats admire both Obama and Clinton, along with all the leftists in Europe. And lets not forget that the Chinese communists as well as the Islamic ´leaders´ of Iran, Egypt, Turkey, Sudan, and al Queda itself were all very happy that Obama won the election so they can continue to deal with these two ´patriots.´ Indeed, one can see that there are many people in the world who admire Obama and Clinton. Too bad none of them like America.

Absolutely meaningless. Every year, this poll lists the President as most admired, no matter who he is or how incompetent or unpopular he may be. On the female side, the First Lady and whoever the highest-ranking woman in government is always top the list.

It´s really nothing but a testament to how shallow the average respondent´s thinking is, or how little thought they give to poll questions. Any Obamabot who points to this as justification for his policies should also have to explain why they opposed Bush even when he and Laura were topping the "Most Admired" polls.

WASHINGTON - President Obama, who turns 52 Sunday, spent today playing golf with friends at Joint Base Andrews, but before he went he was briefed on the terrorist threat that will cause 21 U.S. embassies to close Sunday. (Snip) After the briefing, the president´s motorcade left the White House with golf clubs and at least one cooler in tow. Later, he planned to head to Camp David. Three groups teed off at Andrews, according to a White House official, including a smattering of old friends and former colleagues. WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama says there are no gimmicks to grow the economy — just difficult steps that require Washington´s focus. In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama is promoting a plan he says can break through gridlock. He´s calling it a grand bargain for the middle class. Obama says he´s willing to work with Republicans to reform the tax code for businesses. That would mean lowering rates but ending many loopholes and deductions. But Obama says he´ll only do it if money generated is used for infrastructure, training and job growth. In the Republican address, Sen. Susan Collins

Some U.S. senators have proposed an inventive plan for the cash-strapped Postal Service to raise cash: lifting a century-old ban on the agency shipping alcohol. The two Republican and Democratic senators late on Thursday introduced legislation to change a 1909 law that prohibits the Postal Service from shipping alcoholic beverages. The ban started a decade before prohibition-era laws made producing, selling and transporting alcohol illegal across the country. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Carper, a Delaware Democrat, and the panel´s senior Republican, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, jointly sponsored the legislation,

The opposition attacked him; so did some of the ideological absolutists in his own camp. If the trend continues at its current rapid pace, it will place significant stress on terrestrial ecosystems around the world, and many species will need to make behavioral, evolutionary or geographic adaptations to survive, they said.

That´s a straight 93% loss. Figuring in two decades of inflation would only make it worse -- as does the fact the Times retains the Globe´s pension liabilities, estimated at over $100 million. (snip) What might have sweetened the lower offer for the Times is that Henry offered a straight cash deal, which is expected to close sometime in September or October.
