How Mitt Romney can
redeem himself in 2013

Newsday, by MARGARET CARLSON

Original Article

Posted By:WhamDBambam, 12/29/2012 7:10:21 AM

As I look back at the 2012 presidential campaign, it now all seems so obvious. Not one of those clowns performing at the hundreds of Republican primary debates this year and last was a match for the eventual nominee, Mitt Romney. And Romney clearly wasn't the candidate to defeat President Barack Obama.Yes and yes - but still. We don't always see what's happening before our very eyes. To me, the last 12 months (give or take a few) raise two central questions: If we don't learn from the flawed candidates of the past, how will we avoid taking them seriously in the future?

Astonishingly perverse, even for Miz Carlson.

While I certainly appreciate staff´s help, your editing took away the teaser that might actually get people to read the article. Her thesis:

He can "redeem" himself by leading the gun control effort on behalf of the grabbers!

there´s nothing to redeem. Romney took two years out of his life and his family´s life to fight for the future of this country. he did his best: it was not his time. i suspect he will quietly keep doing virtuously things - not beating his chest like the current WH occupant. Carlson goes for the "show" - some of us prefer substance and good policy. we lost. now get off Romney´s back, lady.

Romney really is the president. The citizens whose votes really count and are paying for this circus elected him. Not Obama. Obama only got more votes because of rabble that didn´t belong anywhere near a voting booth.

I´n sure Gov. Romney will do what he has done most of his life....be a successful businessman and take care of his family.
But, like the rest of us, he will go to his grave bewildered by an election, a people, who chose something so foreign to what the USA has historically believed, that it is incomprehensible.

"Redeem himself"?? Margaret, kiss my rear end. Romney ran a solid campaign and is one of the most decent, qualified men to ever run for POTUS. He doesn´t need to redeem himself. I like how she, like so many, continues to take out of context the 47 percent comment. Margaret, like this article, is seriously unhinged.

Our country has survived all these years because low information voters, for the most part, didn´t vote.
The kenyan klown´s handlers were able to use various communications methods to convince those low information voters to vote. Motor voter laws, early voting, same day registration/voting all were used as carefully as Hitler used his techniques to gain power.
We now have a dunce as president, who will do great harm to our country, and who just does not understand what it means to be an American.
Mitt Romney is a good and decent man, who tried his best to overcome his own party, the media, and the democrats, suffering more silly attacks than any presidential candidate ever suffered, in my opinion.
If the democrats capture the House and retain control of the Senate in 2014, we are sunk.

Carlson is a waste of newsprint and, when on Bloomberg TV, a waste of airtime. Unlike most hardline leftists, she is not strident and dismissive in voicing dogma. Instead, she uses a whiny, mousy voice and syrupy sincerity to express her strong Democratic viewpoint. She is surely the Dem who invented the phrase, It´s for the children, to make the conservative next to her feel guilty.

I´m not interested in Ms. Carlson´s opinion, either. And Mitt Romney doesn´t need to redeem himself, either. It is always difficult to unseat an incumbent President. Many who voted for Obama really just voted for the status quo--and not because they liked him or because they wanted him to raise taxes or foist universal health care on us. Do I think they are brain-dead? Yes. But that is one of the costs of democracy.

I don´t buy the theme that GOP losses were due to flawed candidates. McCain or Romney would have been hundreds of percent better than Obama. The real flaw is that the GOP has stood down and let the liberals turn this country into an electorate of takers who depend on democrats for their subsidies.

In a nutshell, this writer explains the Media with a capital M: Newt Gingrich ... could never win the Republican nomination for president, although I wrote about him as if he could.

May I inquire as how this attitude helps friend OR foe? Mitt didn´t need Ms Carlson´s ilk to get where he is and he will not need them to go anywhere else. So with or without paragraph helps, the bottom line is this: the MEDIA is what´s wrong with the political election process.

If Romney were to do any of the things that the liberal media says he should do he would just be showing the country that he is really stupid.

For the last year that liberal media supported Obama 100% as the Obama crew fraudulently trashed Romney personally, practically destroying his personal and business reputations with over half the country. Romney from now on should stay home and take care of his family, in the end he will be a lot better off.

The analysis of the campaigns was quite accurate, it may be hard to admit but it was. The idea that Mitt might lead a campaign against the NRA is laughable. I expect Romney to go back to his private life and live well. Complaining that citizens you do not like are allowed to vote is very anti-democratic. We have a democracy, women can vote, ethnic minorities can vote, and even the unemployed can vote. Elections are won by appealing to a majority of the voters not by insisting that only people who agree with you should be able to vote.

Romney has his problems, but the Republican party let him down. They did not get out the vote. They never figured out how to handle the liberal media character assassination and policy attacks.

In a bad economy, the Republicans could not even pick up seats in the senate?

Did the Republican party really want to win? Are there some moderate Republicans that would rather have a liberal Democrat instead of a conservative Republican? The left like to infiltrate everything. I can imagine leftists in the Republican party disrupting it. I see some Republicans that do nothing but critizise Republicans. A little more unity perhaps?

Are moderate and conservative Republicans even compatible? Hilite either group and the other leaves.

Was Romney a conservative or a moderate? I have heard him called both. He tried to be both. Is that even possible? Did that make it hard for him to define his message? It made him easy to attack.

Some comparisons are instructive. In 2008, McCain won the primary but left his main rival undamaged to run again. In 2012, Mitt won the nomination by destroying his Republican rivals. Romney scorched the earth in order to clear the field, leaving him with national favorable/unfavorable polling numbers that doomed his campaign before Obama´s even began. It was ugly, stupid, and unnecessary. Those of us who saw this coming and warned against it were routinely derided by Romney supporters. Next time, we need to remember that how our candidates run is almost as important as who they are, and we need to hold them to Reagan´s Eleventh Commandment throughout our primary process. Leave the lies, attack ads, and opposition research drops to the Democrats.

I only read the headline, but what does Mr Romney have to redeem himself from. He is wealthy, moral, ethical, patriotic, and charitable. You would have to look far and wide to find a better American or a better human being. He is personally far better off NOT being president, only the USA is far worse off. The Country got left to fall off a cliff with a bunch of cretins running the show. Even all the folks that live on one type of Government benefit or another will end up worse off. The supply of money is not
endless, though that is what the Administration would have you believe.

This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. The President and the Pontiff will, as the White House said in a statement, focus on "shared commitment

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.

All 17 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have called on Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to end the “partisan” investigation into the Benghazi attack “and begin focusing instead on conducting responsible oversight to implement constructive reforms.” The Dems, led by ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), charged that the probe “has been characterized by wild and unsubstantiated political accusations that turn out to be completely inaccurate.” They proceeded to outline those instances in the five-page letter. “Continuing this reckless pattern of launching wholly unfounded accusations on national television — and racking up more and more Pinocchios in the process —

One by one, the myths of the Affordable Care Act have been revealed. When the curtain on open enrollment falls on March 31, the last remaining big myth of ObamaCare will be fully exposed: The individual mandate has failed. After a last-ditch effort with President Obama himself encouraging "young invincibles" to sign up before the deadline, the administration is scrambling to boost enrollment. On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. The mandate was supposed to be the administration´s magical elixir for the assorted shortcomings

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on

Their target is the GOP, but they are not angry liberals bent on destroying it. They are reform-minded Republican leaders intent on strengthening it. These Republicans are applying conservative principles to 21st-century challenges, focused on middle-class concerns like lowering costs and improving access to college, modernizing health care and reforming the tax code. They aim to broaden prosperity´s reach through markets and merit, not government and corporate cronyism. They´re also concentrating on helping the poor by changing Washington´s dizzying assortment of antipoverty programs to emphasize work and make the safety net more effective and sustainable. The reformers´ success in providing

One is a world leader who has been praised for his humility and outlook on the world. The other is an American president, once the international superstar of the political stage. So it is no surprise that President Barack Obama has travelled to the Vatican in Rome possibly to get some tips from the popular Pope Francis who now even has own weekly glossy magazine dedicated to him. As he sat down with the Pontiff at the Vatican this morning, Obama called himself a ´great admirer´ of the pope. Their historic first meeting comes as Obama´s administration and the church

Usually the type of Republicans MSNBC hosts invite on their shows are either craven RINO types who can be depended upon to trash talk fellow Republicans, or the more inarticulate, dimmer bulbs in the party who fail to communicate conservative positions effectively. MSNBC host Chris Hayes had an entirely different type of animal on his hands with PA Americans For Prosperity Director, Jennifer Stefano. In fact, he´s probably still licking his wounds after the nasty confrontation he had with her, Wednesday night in a debate over the latest ObamaCare delay. He got off on the wrong foot by introducing Stefano

Joe Newby at The Washington Examiner has found a real doozy of a “comedian.” Her name is Laura Levites – with obviously no connection to the priests of the Old Testament. (She´s an atheist with a fondness for Ricky Gervais.) "I would personally like to castrate every Male Conservative Christian so that they have NO reproductive rights," she wrote on Twitter, using the hashtag "#HobbyLobby." She certainly knows how to draw attention to herself. Newby said that’s not all. She also expressed her hatred of Christians in a tweet calling conservative Christians "******bags," claiming they are "really trying" her patience.
