| At the White House on Friday, President Obama apparently told the “summoned” that he wants Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell to reach a deal on the income threshold for tax hikes along, I assume, with a few other partial “cliff” fixes. If they don’t reach a deal, Obama will have Reid call for a Senate vote on Obama’s plan to increase taxes on everyone earning $250,000 or more, plus an extension of expiring unemployment benefits. The idea is to apply pressure on McConnell to reach a deal in order to avoid a vote on Obama’s plan.

Obama just gave the Republicans a late Christmas gift!
Republicans should insist that any "Fiscal Cliff" deal, or any budget legislation in future, include a rollback of his announced pay raises for VP Biden and Congress.
Who wants to argue against that?

The whole charade is a shameful debacle. The games the democrat rats play is some kind of pretzel logic. Reread to further enhance comprehension, the text gets complicated. Reid second guesses this, fake out McConnell to get him to do that. Someone with some smarts on the pub side should go in there with a proverbial baseball bat and shake up "negotiations" considerably, crack some knee caps. What I´d give to be able to sick some of the oh so smart numerous Lucianne posters on them! Those foolish dems would be begging for New Years to come sooner.

Strange how Obie isn´t getting much blowback from middle class taxpayers on the whole deal regardless how it plays out. Could be because most are on holiday right now. Or there is blowback, but the msm is hiding it.
I really don´t think the pubs are feeling any pressure. Sadly, none of the proposals currently on the table include any SIGNIFICANT spending cuts. Unless you consider the cliff to be the only "proposal" that´s on the table.

My uneducated guess is that the Republicans will cave and agree to higher rates on the "rich" and spending cuts 10 years down the road that will never happen. IMHO we have already gone off the cliff and real question is how hard will the landing be? Looks to be a very hard landing, spending a trillion dollars a year we don´t have on programs and departments we don´t need. Congress can´t stop the spending. It will continues to increase every year with no reduction in the national debt in sight.

The Democrats are playing chess and the Republicans are playing checkers by accepting the premise that proposing a tax increase for those over $250K is a reasonable proposal.
OPEN LETTER TO REPUBLICANS:
Why do you keep allowing the Democrats to set the premises which they then ask YOU to compromise with? STOP IT!

Whatever gets to the House, Boehner should not put it to a vote unless a majority of Repubs will vote for it. There´s talk that he will let Dems pass a bad bill with minority Repub support.
I´m tired of hearing Republicans say that they control only 1/3 of the legislative process, so they´ll have to roll over. Their horrible fate could be demonization by the press, or even denigration by obama in the SOTU address. What about saving our country from absolute doom? If Democrats were serious about only taxing "the wealthy," and if Republicans were serious about NOT taxing small businesses that get lumped in with those mean capitalist coupon clippers the Democrats want to burn at the stake, then they would both have proposed the obvious solution long ago.
If they were honest, they would have agreed to impose the tax increases only on income over $250K reportable on 1040 lines 7, 8, 9, and 13. That would exclude ALL small business income reportable on schedule C and line 12, subchapter S earnings reportable on line 17, and all farm income reportable on line 18. The tax increase would ONLY apply to income over $250K derived from wages, interest, dividends, and capital gains. In other words, RICH people. And I´m sorry, but if your salary is over $250,000 a year, or you collect more than that in interest and dividends, most Americans would consider you pretty rich. This really is not that hard.

There is one thing that I have witnessed over a long period of time. And that is, when Senators and Representatives are elected for the first time. they go all out to do just what they promised to their constituents they would do. However, as time passes and they keep getting re-elected, they seem to be more interested in "getting a deal" made, regardless of the circumstances. And the old, worn out excuse is "I did the best I could given the opposition". That´s what you´re going to see and hear this time too.

Let’s stipulate two things: 1. we’re over the cliff. 2. Republicans will get the blame.
So, what to do? Answer: make the Dems and Obama, the biggest spender in the history of man, own it.
Vote present, let Obama and Reid have their taxes and expenditures. Vote present, and let the consequences crash down upon the Democrats heads.
From the wreckage of the economy and a discredited Democratic (Socialist) Party of 2013, we might be able to put together a fiscally sane government.

Pubs are going to be blamed regardless. Time to do the right thing and just say "No!". Let the 47% (whose numbers will be drastically reduced once we´re over the cliff) feel the consequences of their vote. Yes, the rest of us will be squeezed, too, but life isn´t fair. At least many of those insulated from income tax consequences will face them again and be forced to think a bit more responsibly.
Strategically, this would send a shot across the bow as we approach the debt ceiling. Then it will be time to really get tough. The best way to stop the spending is to cut up the credit card and force NerØbama to live within his revenues. Yes, he will concentrate funds on blue states and his liberal friends, but where will that leave the swing voters who sat out this election? They will be enraged, and that rage will ultimately play out in 2014. It´s all about 2014 at this point, and the Dems shouldn´t feel so confident as to the outcome.
We´re in a war for the future of the country. It´s time to fight it.

Can anyone imagine how horrendous it must be to try and negotiate with Obama and Reid ? Does anyone think they care what Republicans want ? Or what´s best for all Americans ? The Republicans and 16 Democrats , passed a clean bill extending the Bush tax cuts for all Americans last summer. Boehner sent the bill to the Senate and Reid threw it in the garbage. Yelling and screaming , like many posters and talk radio armchair Congressmen advocate , will accomplish what , exactly ? The majority of Americans elected Obama-twice. The Democrats and liberals control the media . Democrats control the Senate. Within a few years, they will control the USSC . Reid is trying to do away with the filibuster , so the 53 Democrats and 2 Indys can streamline Obama´s lifetime federal judicial appointees without the 45 Republicans having any say. The Republican majority in the House will shrink by 8 seats come January. Boehner has little leverage except for the Coulter option.

I am always amazed — amazed — when anyone has the gall to dismiss, even laugh off, the suggestion that the right to keep and bear arms is a smart and necessary provision for a free society. Human history (not to mention current events!) is too chock-full of examples of nefarious regimes violently abusing and controlling their people, and the freedoms enjoyed by American citizens are the exception, not the rule. During a committee hearing of the Oregon state senate in considering their own state package of gun-control legislation last week, one testifier reminded the assembled lawmakers of one

My mouth dropped when I found out. A teardrop tattoo can mean he murdered someone. So I hired someone else. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are seeing more and more people who want their tattoos removed, often because they worry that the tattoos could cause problems with employment. Andrew Breitbart has become an iconic and beloved figure on the right, so it’s hard to imagine his eponymous empire could be in danger of losing conservative support just one year after his passing. But if recent events are a harbinger of things to come, that’s at least a possibility. It all started last October, when BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins penned a controversial piece, arguing the outlet was “plagued by an unusual degree of disorganization and rampant infighting…” The report might have been easily dismissed, had it not been soon revealed that Breitbart.com’s Dana Loesch was suing Breitbart.com

And now the last of them is gone. Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul II—three who won the Cold War and, it isn´t too much to say, saved the West (at least for a while!)—are no longer with us. Their examples remain. They knew what they believed but also knew they had to justify their beliefs, and that one could adjust prudently to circumstances without yielding on principle. They stood firm when in power, and they took risks to get there, challenging the conventional wisdom and the respective establishments of their nations or institutions.

Frustration is taking its toll in the liberals’ war against guns. President Obama, pushing his broad gun control agenda, said we should be ashamed if we’ve forgotten the Newtown shooting so soon. The New York Times opined that Obama is being shouted down by the “gun lobby,” even though he and Biden had been crisscrossing the country “…making a forceful case for a package of laws that would reduce gun violence.” That, of course, is the media narrative on gun control. For every issue there is a narrative: a set of assumptions and boundaries of thought

Is it time to give up the fight against Obamacare? That’s a question some conservative health-care experts, pundits, and — more quietly — politicians are asking. In the first years after its passage, opponents had hoped that the Supreme Court would strike down the law or that a new president would sign its repeal before most of it took effect. But the Supreme Court decided to modify a few of its provisions instead of striking it down, and President Obama was reelected. Repeal is almost certainly off the table for four years. Obamacare will continue to be implemented.

As the bipartisan Gang of Eight works to complete a comprehensive immigration reform bill, there has been a growing consensus among Senate Republicans that the bill — so far seen by no one outside the Gang — should be the subject of multiple hearings and extended consideration inside the Senate Judiciary Committee. But on Sunday there were signs that consensus does not extend to the Republicans inside the Gang. Appearing on CBS, longtime immigration reform advocate and Gang member Sen. John McCain suggested the immigration issue is so familiar to lawmakers that multiple hearings will not be necessary.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
