But it won´t be some happy Thelma-and-Louise-style climax." Happy? Has anyone actually watched Thelma & Louise lately? The 1991 movie is about two women who go on the lam after one saves the other from an attempted rape by shooting the attacker. Convinced the police won´t believe them, they set out to drive to Mexico. But they don´t make it, and the film ends with the two driving off the edge of a cliff

My low educated students are not at all conversant with a lot of things I thought they would know. They´ve never even heard of Alfred Hitchcock for instance. If I quote Shakespeare or Dickens they look puzzled. Their vocabularies are cramped and small. And the scary part is that they are all teacher education students.
God help their students.

CORRECTION: Susan Sarandon did save Geena Davis from rape, but not by shooting the attacker. She stopped him with the threat of shooting him. As they were leaving, the attacker mouthed off and then SS shot him, which was unnecessary at that point. I never understood why feminists loved that movie because it portrayed two women making the most idiotic and dangerous decisions.

Yup, and had that shot been fired to stop the rape, it would have been justifiable homicide. However, once the threat of rape had passed, the shooting then became a homicide.
There´s nothing ´unfair´ there to get all ´enraged´ about. Male or female, young or old, Texas or Oklahoma, (semi-automatic or revolver), it was a bad shoot.

Last week, Rutgers University fired its mercurial basketball coach after he was videotaped “shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players in practice and using gay slurs,” according to ESPN. Under pressure from school administrators, Rutgers’ athletic director, who had previously defended the coach’s behavior, resigned. In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
