Ask Americans to quit taking so much welfare. Refuse all those food stamps. Don´t activate the 0bama-phone. Turn the thermostat down when welfare pays the heating bill.

I think a line is crossed between infectiously positive and certifiably insane. It is not positive to give our government more money, and not positive to pretend otherwise. This exercise also presupposes that the problem with government debt is too little revenue, when clearly the problem is too much spending.

The problem is that it wouldn´t pay down the debt at all because the democ rats would simply spend it on their base.

The govt already takes an arm and leg from each paycheck i get, now you want me to send them my other arm and leg? Get out of here!!! My "donation" is forcibly confiscated from my paycheck already, you chump.

How about cutting out wasteful spending and donating that amount to debt repayment instead? And other idea--cut taxes for everyone and get the economy going again. If more people are working, tax revenues will increase.

I didn´t create one dime of our enormous debt and I´ve paid taxes all my life without collecting one single day of unemployment so I take no responsibility for paying it back. Obama just gave federal workers a raise in the face of yet another recession,probably for their support in winning Va.,at least so yeah,there´s no point in sending these reckless goons more money.

Our national debt is around 100% of GDP.
If everyone sent in ALL of their earned income for a year, it still wouldn´t pay off the debt.

The debt is being monetized (through inflation) as you read this. Once a dollar is worth a penny, the value of the debt will only be $160,000 billion.

Like most other Ldotters (I assume) I work five months a year to pay what the government demands from me. So, I already gave at the office.

If you have an extra dollar in your pay check, use it to pay down your own debt. Any more, give it to your children because they will be the ones stuck with the tab.

Does anyone know if the chief negotiators on the fiscal cliff, whoever that may be, took arithmetic and math courses in elementary, secondary and higher education classes? I am not getting it. What they are talking about is basically a math problem. I´m embarassed for the nation at their handling of this situation. I´m sure the Russians and others are snickering in their vodka.

IIRC, Mike Huckabee, when he was governor of Arkansas, replied to the lefties who criticized him for cutting taxes (because it would mean no increase in social services funding), okay, I´m opening up a special account for where you critics who want more money to go to these programs can send a check.

I am so glad many posters had the same reaction I did when I saw this dude on Fox and Friends this morning. First, I thought he sounded like a liberal. Second, I thought the Congress needs to make do with the taxes we already send. Third, I thought this really isn´t the problem, it it SPENDING. If we pay down the debt with this moron´s idea then the Congress will just permit themselves more dollars to spend. No deal!

Bunk. He can implore, beseech, coerce, cajole, or just plain ask. I have way too much confiscated already, and I wager that over 50% of it is squandered.

Can´t disagree with any of the posts here. Oh, wait. When I was young and laid off (in the 50´s), it wasn´t the taxpayers who funded unemployment benefits. It was from a fund that came from employers! No average worker´s money, just funded by employers.
