NBC reportedly sought permission to show the magazine on Meet the Press, and the DC police turned them down. Now that we know who the bombers are and one of them is dead, and that they are Chechen Muslims, the media has gone into “Palestinian” mode insisting that we need to talk about the conflict in Chechnya. We can talk about Chechnya, but the issue there and everywhere else is Islamic nationalism or Islamism. The bombers could have been from Chechnya or Mali or Bosnia or Iraq or Egypt or Afghanistan or any Muslim country where Islamists are active. Desperate to keep up with their face passed schedule, Senate Democrats proceeded to hold their first of just two hearings on the 844-page Schumer-Rubio immigration bill today, despite the unfolding events involving immigrant bombers in Boston. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had been scheduled as the main witness at today’s Judiciary Committee, but she cancelled her appearance minutes before the hearing began, citing her obligations to oversee the ongoing situation in Boston. While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom.
