´Christmas sucks´: Dozens

Christmas Day has come and gone, all the presents have been unwrapped, and now kids who did not get what they wanted under the tree are taking to Twitter to complain about their loved ones´ lacking gift choices. A user named Michael Trujillo lamented that his sisters got iPods this year while he was only given $100, adding that he cannot buy anything with that money. Another aggrieved gift recipient Gianna Rodriguez complained: ´Woooow all I got for Christmas was gift cards, perfume and slippers. My mom sucks at giving presents.´

If I was their Mother and knew what they had said, they would get nothing more until they learn to appreciate the meaning of a ´gift´.

If you know people who lived as children in the (first) "Great Depression" they might tell you how they got an orange for Christmas, and were glad to get it. Let´s hope these young coddled people don´t go through that kind of experience.

I have always liked getting a gift card. That way I can choose what I want. If the kid whose sisters got ipods and he didn´t, maybe he already had one or the money to get one himself? If not, then shame on mom for excluding him. I hope she had a really good reason, because excluding one child at the expense of the others isn´t right.

My dad talked about getting a new shirt or two, and maybe a pocket knife. He was also surrounded by family who loved him. He wasn´t poor, it was just that people weren´t so ridiculous about "proving" their love with lots of meaningless gifts.

I have made sure for the past couple of years that I have used gifts to fulfill real needs. I check on expensive gifts off and on for months, and am ready to pounce on a good sale price. If given a choice, I use PayPal or an echeck so I won´t have any debt at the end of the season that can´t be easily paid off.

Spoiled brats and people who would kill one another for a pair of overpriced Air Jordans give the holiday a bad name.

And what wonderful meaningful presents did they give to their family members, not to mention how much did they donate to the Salvation Army kettles, other organizations, or people in need?

I am absolutely livid about these brats´ complaints. First of all, the spelling errors are ridiculous. These children need to learn some humility and be thankful that they have family members who are able to get them anything for Christmas. I also can´t help but wonder what these brats got for their parents for Christmas. My bet? Nothing.

I believe the children are our future and I´m afraid....very afraid.

What an ungrateful kid to complain about receiving $100! That is what I gave each of my grandchildren. There are 12 of them. Add it up. It was a major sacrifice for this fixed income senior who is about to lose her business to foreclosure. The business is mildly profitable, but the bank was bought out and the new owner wants his loan paid off. 12-31-12 is the deadline and it will not be extended. We are up to date on our payments, but that won´t wtop them from closing us down next week.

Oh well, if my grandchildren think I´m a piker for giving each of them only $100, they´ll get to ponder it further next year when they get nothing.

These tweets should give you a better understanding of the election results.

Eventually, the self-centered youth that tweeted these remarks get the right to vote.

Many of them expect (or demand high-end) hand-outs. They don´t understand or want to hear about sacrifice!

These kids could always use their own savings to get what they want. They don´t save money? Too bad. Next year, the parents should not think too hard about what to give them, and just give them a cheap gift card. Preferably for less than the amount they spent on them this year.

I feel like a cheapskate now! I bought the nephews modest iTunes gift cards with a note stating that a gift had been given in their names to the Salvation Army. I doubled what I normally give SA this year because I know they do good work and the donations don´t support wealthy administrators lavish fundraisers.

My mother (now 80) has started gifting us with her own "treasures." This year I got my baby ID bracelet from the hospital where I was born, and a beautiful garnet/opal brooch that belonged to her mother. I am grateful for cards and anything else I receive. If I can´t use it, I find a good place for it. And because my parents grew up during the depression, we always got an orange and candy cane on Christmas.

If I had a child like these I would just let him know that because he found my gift-giving skills so lacking I will no longer be insulting him with my poor attempts.
I remember being totally ´over the moon´ to find coloring books and crayons under the tree. That was my idea of heaven. What a difference from then (the 50s) to now.

None of these brats turned out this way based solely on what they got for Christmas this year.

This is the result of a lifetime of being spoiled rotten.

I doubt any of these parents are the least bit shocked. These brats have acted the same way since they were 5, and mommy and daddy have kept right on buying them the best of everything year after year.

Next Christmas, it will just happen again...

A number of women who I consider "peers" and not necessarily "friends" used to complain about the presents that their family would get them...one woman in particular would complain about how her husband never got the right size or the right color or got something different from what she told him she wanted. She then described how she was always careful to pick out thing that she ´knew´ her family would like, and then was crushed when she found out they didn´t.

I couldn´t stand her, really.

The real problem is every day is Christmas for these ungrateful kids. It´s not all about you. How many of them can even write a thank you note ?

I had to go to the shopping center a couple of times before Christmas day. It was disturbing how many broke people suddenly had money to buy mindless gifts-while they treated the store employees like servants.

I see the same clerks all year, so I hand out candy or something for them as I shop. Just something to recognize how much I appreciate them.

It´s not the dollar amount that counts. How many children would love to hear the voice of a parent killed in action ?

It´s funny. My grandkids gave us a list that included I-Pods, I-Pads and other electronic crap. We got them books, and clothes and some creative toys. Now for the funny part -- they thanked us for the really great gifts and said that they got everything they really wanted. The weird thing was that they were sincere. I would really like to freeze this Christmas because as they enter their teen years, I´m afraid they will succumb to the pressure these brats will put on them.

Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Or so we once thought. America’s schoolyards were tough places to play in the old days, where kids settled their arguments with skinned knuckles, bloody noses and a minimum of grown-up interference. Using radar technology, researchers from Texas A&M University found the remains of military buildings and tunnels dating back to 1850. The fort was built as San Francisco´s fortunes boomed with the discovery of gold in California and it proved to be of strategic value at the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861.
