Betrayed by the Zeitgest She

On the last day of this year, outliving the universe by 10 days if the Mayan calendar was correct, the print edition of Newsweek will be no more, making the 80-year-old dentist´s waiting-room staple the latest in a long line of victims of changing reader habits, the high cost of print and a Darwinian newsstand. In an interview with Michael Kinsley in the Nov. 26 issue of New York magazine, Newsweek editor in chief and magazine legend Tina Brown gave a big-picture reason for the magazine´s failure: "[E]very piece of the Zeitgeist was against Newsweek,"

Zeitgeist coalesced to betray Tina. How "New Age". Way to throw the blame elsewhere.

I don´t blame Tina because Newsweek was doomed well before she took on the corpse. I remember being offered an incredibly cheap deal to subscribe for 5 years. Then, Newsweek took such a hard left turn it started falling off my counter and straight into the trash can until the subscription ran out and for another 6 months after since it continued to show up at my house pleading with me to send it money.

Any publication that panders to the left will ultimately fail because leftists don´t need to read anything - they´re either elitists who have all the answers, or are brain-dead morons who follow the elitists.

None of the reasons given for the mag´s failure is true. It failed because nothing it printed over the past twenty years or so is worth reading.

Call me a cockeyed optimist but many of the recent reports about our energy resources and discoveries in medical advances conjure up visions of an America enjoying low gas and energy prices; low unemployment, high wages and low cost medical treatments. None of these changes will be possible, however, unless we have a government willing to allow them. American citizens (legitimate citizens, not just residents) can vote to elect a government that is not beholden to special interest donors and lobbyists. While this sounds unlikely at the moment, it is not impossible especially if the comatose voters who got us

The release of Justin Bieber’s mugshot once again reminds us just how fascinating these little pieces of celebrity photography can be. Does the person under arrest have the presence of mind to flash their signature smile, as Bieber evidently did, or are they so far off the deep end that they lose all sense of vanity and simply succumb to their new reality? To examine this phenomenon, below is a look back at some of the most remarkable mugshots from prominent media figures over the last several decades, for too many of whom were arrested in Florida.

Cuomo´s Place

At the 1992 Democratic National Convention, the pro-life Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, Robert Casey, was barred from speaking. The message was if you are pro-life, you have no place in the Democratic party. The new attitude of the Democratic party, at least as represented by New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo, is if you are pro-life, you have no place in a blue state. During a January 17 interview with Susan Arbetter of WCNY’s “The Capitol Pressroom,” Cuomo, angry at Republican opposition to his agenda, offered his critique of the GOP. “Who are they?” Cuomo demanded to know. Are they wise, reasonable, and

No doubt Mayor de Blasio was relieved to beat it out of town Thursday and leave behind inconvenient questions about the botch of this week’s snowstorm. Plainly he is more comfortable on a stage in Washington, where he declared to his fellow mayors that it’s their job “to address the root causes of inequality.” Now, this week’s snowstorm was not on the scale of the one that so damaged Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s reputation in 2010, much less the one that forever tarnished John Lindsay many decades earlier. But it carries a warning especially apt for a man who views himself as

Has the left’s attempt to use the lethal-injection process to ban the death penalty backfired? Consideration of firing squads for implementing the death penalty is not a fringe issue and would bring back the humaneness the left claims it wants in the process. As often as I can, I laud the importance, value and decency of the death penalty. As a feminist, I’ve spent a great deal of my adult life as an advocate for women, educating on violence against women and agitating for justice for women in a system that far too often forgets the victims on the receiving end

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio emphatically backed New Governor Andrew Cuomo’s controversial remarks that “extreme” conservatives – which he defined as being pro-life, second amendment advocates, or supporters of traditional marriage – “have no place in the state of New York.” “I stand by that 100 percent,” de Blasio told reporters at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. “I agree with Governor Cuomo’s remarks. I interpret his remarks to say that an extremist attitude that continues the reality of violence in our communities or an extremist attitude that denies the rights of women does not

Gohmert told Fox host Brian Kilmeade “thank God for Fox News” for correcting the record. “We’re seeing more and more young women, single women coming before me, single moms, charged with welfare fraud,” Gohmert said on the House floor recently. Federal authorities in New Jersey have interviewed several witnesses who said the mayor of Hoboken told them in May about a state official’s threat to withhold hurricane recovery funds if the mayor did not support a development project favored by the governor, people briefed on the matter said on Wednesday. The statements by the witnesses, two of whom are aides to the mayor, Dawn Zimmer, support the account she gave to federal prosecutors on Sunday, and the interviews suggest that prosecutors and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have moved swiftly to investigate her accusations. The IRS is good at a lot of things — sending out tax refunds, giving tax credits for child-care expenses and deductions for charitable contributions, and helping taxpayers file their income tax returns for free. But one thing the IRS probably isn’t very good at is deciding whether or not a woman has been raped. That’s why some provisions of the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” don’t make a whole lot of sense. H.R. 7, which is sponsored by Rep. Christopher Smith (R-N.J.), would change the tax code so that individuals may only deduct medical expenses related to abortion in cases

The mysterious mass die-offs of honeybees that have wiped out roughly a third of commercial colonies each year since 2006 may be linked to a rapidly mutating virus that jumped from tobacco plants to soy plants to bees, according to a new study. The research, reported Tuesday in the online version of the academic journal mBio, found that the increase in honeybee deaths that generally starts in autumn and peaks in winter was correlated with increasing infections by a variant of the tobacco ringspot virus. The virus is found in pollen that bees pick up while foraging, and it may be spread

Chuck Schumer revealed yesterday. Echoing President Obama´s infamous "bitter clingers" remarks, the New York Democrat argued that Tea Party supporters are cartoonish figures who are easily ridiculed. Invoking all the usual liberal cliches about conservatives, Schumer said the Tea Party is successor to "the Know-Nothings, Prohibitionists, Father Coughlin, and Huey Long." If there is anything New York doesn´t need it´s more reasons for Empire State residents to flee. Over the last decade (2001-11) New York´s population fell by 1.6 million. Many disgruntled New Yorkers said enough, packed up and left the state. This was a larger population drain than suffered by any other state. Congratulations. That´s why Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo´s declaration that "extreme conservatives ... have no place in the state of New York" was so dumbfounding. Politics: The Obama administration has turned the executive branch loose on its enemies — part of a disturbing and unprecedented trend toward delegitimizing political differences and marginalizing conservatives. Behind the special status of his presidency, President Obama has used the machinery of government to harass and intimidate political opponents — to an extent greater even than former Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, both threatened with impeachment. Consider these recent events, courtesy of the Ace of Spades blog: • Attorney General Eric Holder´s Southern District of New York office has indicted conservative author, activist and filmmaker Dinesh D´Souza — producer of the critical

In politics, lying is the new sex. Even the lesser sin, exaggeration, is grounds for questions about your suitability to run for office. Americans may be becoming more like the French in tolerating peccadilloes (just ask Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina or Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana about surviving a sex scandal), but get a detail wrong about whether you divorced at 21 or at 19, and woe unto you. That’s what happened to Wendy Davis over the weekend. You may know her as the Texas state senator in pink sneakers who delivered an 11-hour filibuster against abortion restrictions in June.
