I like John Boehner and he is a good speaker. Plan B sucked. So far Democrats have not offered one plan. Time to go home and let the Bush tax cuts and the welfare that is in it expire. (Welfare being the child "tax credit")

Usually agree with Jennifer but not this time. Reid already said the plan was DOA even if it did pass,so why throw away your pledge for nothing? It´s not a defeat for Boehner but a win for conservatives.We would be dead as a party if we caved to Obama and that´s what he wanted.

Obama doesn´t get his pork Sandy bill or stimulus which $8 million of which was probably a last minute gift the GM.Obama´s going to lose if he doesn´t deliver for his donors.

They still have this plan(Obama) to print two $1 dollar platinum coins and declare their value a trillion a piece to borrow against.Congress can put any value they want on currency,not sure about Obama.Sounds crazy but this is Obama we´re talkig about and his cabal of scholars he has spread around the country´s colleges.

It doesn´t hand obama the "high ground", the media has seen to it that he´ll always have that position. It did slap down Boehner, the old guard has been put on notice and in the long run, that´s what the GOP and the country needs.

So elect an unhumiliated Speaker. We need one that fights and does not cry and introduce Nancy Pelosi´s bills.

1.) Who is this Jennifer Rubin? She´s supposed to me the conservative voice in the Washington Compost? Her drivel is worthy of the dung pile! An absolute Liberal Demoncrat masquerading as a Republican. I don´t know why I wasted 5 minutes reading her lies, distortions and fictional editorializing.
2.) Bring it ON!!! Purple-Lipps/Harry a-whole Reid! I´m willing to suffer the few months or year with the higher tax rate so long as the Republicans daily, obsessively SPEAK UP that Purple-Lipps/Harry a-whole are fully, 100%, completely to blame for this tax hike! But unfortunately Boner and company may be incapable to such broadcasting.
3.) The Tea-Party/Heritage Foundation etc. have done Boner a favor, contrary to Mz. Rubinsteinberg (D - Washington Compost) irrational, idiotic scribing. Let Purple-Lipps/Harry a-whole own this, just like they own the ACA healthcare bag-o´-doodoo!
It is at the point where 5x,xxx,xxx Americans that put this embarrassment into the WH enjoy the fruit of their labors. I´m willing to bet that many if not most will not be happy with their higher everything coming their way thanks to Purple-Lipps/Harry a-whole and Queen Piglosi´s work in the Congress since 2006!

John Boehner believes he became Speaker of the House because he is so wonderful. Not so. He is Speaker because he outlasted everyone since the party deposed Newt Gingrich AND because 38 tea partiers voted to elect him Speaker in 2011.

I am sick and tired of his mealy mouth blubbering over who-knows-what, and his absolute inability to coherently explain anything Conservative. Off with his head (figuratively, of course) and let the House elect someone who is at least just 1% smarter than Obama.

We knew he was trouble right after his election in 2011 when he did not even consider the Tea Party (who put him there) for really great assignments, but rather installed the Old Guard GOP and paid rather thin lip service to the Tea Party across the country.

Boehner is correct in the quote above. Instead of conceding on taxes, he should have passed those same bills again.

The tax plan is likely the best we could do with only the House.

The Speaker´s the problem. You don´t announce a new plan which raises taxes on even a few at the last minute. His caucus ran on no new taxes. Now he expects them to fall in line without a chance to explain the plan to their constituents? Why should they let Boehner throw them under the bus, especially after his horrendous performance during the debt ceiling talks last summer.

Pass a 90 day CR keeping everything in place and start over. Keep Plan B, but let your members go home and try to explain it to the voters. Then see if you can pass it.

If you want to talk humiliation, how about the way that Boehner stripped conservative House members of their committee assignments and then expected them to rally behind his Plan B which had zero chance - zero - of going anywhere beyond the House if it even passed in the House.

Boehner embarrassed the Republican Party by presenting legislation which comes from liberal Democrats.
Either he presents a 3 for 1 plan: $3 in actual spending CUTS for each $1 in taxes, or he does not. If there are no actual cuts, then it is not a plan.
The government is bloated. The government is spending money which it does not have. This is evil.

Let´s go over the cliff - lots of people will learn that "the wealthy" as in "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy" included them. Second, more people will have some skin (i.e. pay taxes) in the game. Finally, the Republicans should stand up and say, "the US has been living beyond its means for a long time. Now it is time to pay the piper. Either cut spending or be prepared to pay even higher taxes."
