Why Are Taxpayers Paying Union Officials´ So Much?

Politics: Taxpayers are forking out $4.8 million for 35 union officials at the Department of Transportation. But the beneficiary here isn´t the taxpayer, it´s President Obama, who is raking campaign cash from these unions. According to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by Americans for Limited Government, 35 officials, representing mostly air traffic controllers´ unions, are members of the $100,000 club among federal employees. Unlike the average American, or even average DOT employee, these union officials draw an average $138,000 in salary and benefits from the federal government, not to give something of value to the taxpayers, Headline split by staff.

Comments: Fat taxpayer-paid salaries, for Obama´s favorite union thugs, at your expense!

This should be illegal. The government should not have unions nor be paying union leaders.

In 2013, there is no need for unions. They have outlived their usefulness. Think about it, union members, wouldn´t you rather have your union dues in your paycheck?

...well, the first paragraph answers the headline´s question. Regarding #3´s question...if a union member pays $2400 per year in dues but is compensated $50K more than his private sector counterpart, that´s a pretty good return and they´re unlikely to give that up. Plus the work rules ensure they would have to cannibalise a small child to lose their job. No union should be allowed to exist if there isn´t hostile mgmt on the other side. That is the case even with high paid athletes, but no gov´t unions. The more politicians grant them, the more dues are donated to them. It will take someone with real courage to end this.

Why Are Taxpayers Paying Union Officials So Much? Because they can...and because pigs like this always need a bigger trough! You can go ahead and put socks or lipstick or whatever on them and you´ll still be left with pigs! They´ll never change. They´ll only take more.

A few days ago, I reported on the shocking story about the Army instructor in Pennsylvania who labeled Evangelical Christians, Catholics, Orthodox Jews and Mormons "religious extremists" alongside Hamas and al Qaeda during an Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief on extremism. An Army spokesman told Todd Starnes of Fox News that this was an “isolated incident not condoned by the Dept. of the Army.” It was not an isolated incident. Today, Todd Starnes reports at Townhall that an Army officer at Ft. Campbell, KY recently sent an email to subordinates using similar descriptions to describe two mainstream Christian ministries

The death of Margaret Thatcher received extensive media coverage in Chile, proving that the “Dama de Hierro” (“Iron Lady”) is still capable of stirring powerful emotions among Chileans—of irritation among her opponents and admiration from her supporters. Her passing occurred while Heritage economic experts were in Santiago to present results for Chile in the 2013 Index of Economic Freedom (a publication that celebrates the core principles to which Prime Minister Thatcher dedicated her political career). Several Chileans told us why Thatcher mattered so much to them and why Chile mattered to her.

A former vice mayor exposed himself and masturbated in the direction of at least three different women while driving his car at 90mph, it emerged today. The women testified against former Mount Carmel Vice-Mayor William Blakely in Tennessee court last week and all described in graphic detail how he would get their attention while they were driving and then hang his penis out the car window. Victim Kelly Street testified: ´After the waving, it turned into a lot of beeping, him grabbing his chest area, and asking me going "please, please" [clasping hands together] with his hands, may I… show me yours.´

Rights activists reacted with indignation on Wednesday after Singapore´s High Court rejected a petition to repeal an archaic law criminalising sex between men. In a ruling issued on Tuesday, the court said it was up to parliament to repeal a controversial provision in the penal code known as Section 377A, whose constitutionality has been questioned by a gay couple. "The issue in the present case no doubt is challenging and important, but it is not one which, in my view, justifies heavy-handed judicial intervention ahead of democratic change," Judge Quentin Loh said in his verdict.

Documents released by Wikileaks show Catholic Church dismissed criticism of Chile’s military dictatorship as ‘communist propaganda.´ The Catholic Church originally labeled accusations of human rights abuses by the military junta in Chile as “leftist lies,” only revising their stance later as widespread governmental violence became undeniable. Among the hundreds of documents from the U.S. State Department released by Wikileaks on Monday was a cable sent to then-Secretary of State Henry Kissinger from his counterpart at the Vatican, Archbishop Giovanni Benelli.

Whoever wins next Sunday’s presidential election in Venezuela faces an economic time bomb with food shortages, insufficient US dollars to pay for imports and honour the country’s debt, a devastated economy full of inefficient nationalized companies and non productive farms plus mounting promises of further handouts from the government and inflation. “In a way, Chávez left at the zenith of his success” says Orlando Ochoa, an economist at the Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas. “And his legacy for his successor is an economic bomb”. In an effort to stem the problems the government created a new foreign-exchange agency

During a rally held on Tuesday with workers, Venezuela´s acting President Nicolás Maduro announced a rise in the minimum salary of 38-45% that would be implemented in three stages. The first 20% would be implemented in May, from USD 325.55 to USD 390.66. The next increase (10%) would be adopted in September, bringing salaries up to USD 429.73. A final adjustment would be enforced in November by 5-10%, based on inflation. The president in charge also announced the creation of "workers´ groceries," aimed at bringing state-run food network Mercal to state-run companies so that workers can directly buy foodstuffs at their workplace.

A wide variety of experienced politicians, civil servants and courtiers who observed at first hand the Queen’s relationship with Margaret Thatcher agree: it was (long pause, pained expression) “difficult.” Here were two women of similar age but very dissimilar backgrounds; previously strangers, they were conjoined during the most tumultuous and confrontational years of postwar politics. Among the most radical of the Thatcherite thinkers were some whose contempt for the old, flabby institutions of a weary, oversocialized country reached even to the monarchy. They (naively) tended to see the United States as a model in politics and economics,

ONLY a handful of peace-time politicians can claim to have changed the world. Margaret Thatcher, who died this morning, was one. She transformed not just her own Conservative Party, but the whole of British politics. Her enthusiasm for privatisation launched a global revolution and her willingness to stand up to tyranny helped to bring an end to the Soviet Union. Winston Churchill won a war, but he never created an “ism”. The essence of Thatcherism was to oppose the status quo and bet on freedom—odd, since as a prim control freak, she was in some ways the embodiment of conservatism.

Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady” of Britain who adamantly defended and praised her friend, former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet for “bringing democracy to Chile,” died following a stroke on Monday. She was 87. Thatcher was arguably the most influential British politician in recent history. The first woman to lead a major Western power, Thatcher held office for 11 years, making her the country´s longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century. A large part of Thatcher’s legacy was her role in the Falklands War,

Katie Stockton, 32, faced up to 60 years in prison for the death of the infant, who became known as Baby Crystal around the Rock River Valley after her frozen remains were found. Winnebago County prosecutors dropped 11 remaining murder charges in exchange for her guilty plea in February to a single count of first-degree murder. The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
