You Can´t Say That
About Cory Booker

Atlantic, by J.K. Trotter

Original Article

Newark mayor Cory Booker is pushing back, hard, against a recent New York Times profile that shredded the superstar politician for skirting his government duties in favor of Manhattan movie premieres and the company of celebrities. Booker´s response that isn´t that unusual, though: he´s pushed back, just as hard, against other, equally unflattering media portrayals of himself and his city. Here´s a recent history of his responses to negative press: The New York Times, December 2012

Spielberg was a big time supporter of Booker last time around.

The other day Spielberg praised Gov. Christie.

Booker seems to be falling out of favor with some of the ´beautiful´ people.

These writers need to be careful, after 2016, President Booker might increase the power of the office to ´lock up´ his opponents as envisioned by Harry Belefonte. If this sounds far fetched, you haven´t been paying attention.

Rand Paul demands Dems return money

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan    Original Article

Sen. Rand Paul, who has been in a bit of a tiff recently with the Clintons, says that any Democrat who has raised campaign money with former President Clinton should return the cash to protest his sexual behavior in the White House. Speaking on C-Span’s “Newsmakers” program, in an interview airing Sunday, Mr. Paul said Democrats are being hypocritical by criticizing Republicans as waging a war on women while at the same time embracing Mr. Clinton, who was impeached for lying about a sexual relationship with a White House intern.

It’s time to leave Woody Allen alone. “What is your favorite Woody Allen movie?’’ This was the pointed question — fighting words, really — that kicked off an open letter written by the adopted daughter of the iconic New York City filmmaker and posted last weekend on a New York Times blog. Dylan Farrow, who now lives under another name, wrote that one day in 1992, Woody, a self-described claustrophobe, led her to a cramped attic in the Connecticut summer house owned by her mother, Mia Farrow, and told her to lie on her stomach and play with her brother’s electric train

Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview with CNN´s Kate Bolduan that he can´t formulate a "good" reason not to run for president in 2016. "There may be reasons I don´t run, but there´s no obvious reason for me why I think I should not run," Biden said in the interview, which aired Friday morning on CNN´s "New Day." Biden said, realistically, that a decision on his potential 2016 run would come next summer. One reason he might not run is the sizable polling gulf already between him and Democrats´ most logical candidate — former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. According to

It’s only February, but it’s already my favorite word — or phrase, I guess — of the year. (Who knows, by December it may be shortened to “joblock.”) It’s not euphonious or edgy, but it does offer insight into the unreality of the Democrats’ predicament. The Congressional Budget Office issued a politically explosive report this week, finding that Obamacare will reduce the number of hours Americans work by the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time jobs. This is different from killing 2.5 million jobs, Obamacare defenders are quick to insist. This will be a shortfall on the demand, not supply, side. In

Former Senior White House advisor and MSNBC contributor David Axelrod took to his Twitter account on Thursday where he strongly advised Democratic donors to keep their wallets closed for Hillary Clinton for the time being. He said they should be focused on 2014 and the Democratic Senate majority which is “seriously at risk.” “With the Senate seriously at risk, and the Koch Brothers spending prodigiously, shouldn’t Dem funders be focused on ’14 and not ’16 races?” Axelrod asked.

It was a letter she wished she never had to write, about something she says she wished had never happened. Dylan Farrow says it took all the courage she had to finally pen the emotional open letter she sent to the New York Times detailing her claim that her adoptive father, Woody Allen, had sexually molested her as a child, she exclusively tells PEOPLE. "It took all of my strength and all of my emotional fortitude to do what I did this week in the hope that it would put the truth out there," says Dylan, 28, now a happily married writer.

A Journal editorial yesterday noted the Obama argument that new IRS rules are intended to fix "confusion" in the law surrounding non-profit groups like the Tea Party organizations that have been targeted by the tax agency. But in a letter this week to new IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, Reps. Darrell Issa and Jim Jordan show that the new rule-making was politically motivated from its inception. In an interview with House investigators, former IRS Acting Commissioner Steve Miller was asked what the problem was in the law that needed to be fixed. Democrats from President Obama on down have been touting Obamacare´s sign-up numbers. Even after the system´s disastrous rollout, they like to point out, roughly three million people have signed up for private insurance, while 6.3 million have signed up for Medicaid. "Already, because of the Affordable Care Act, more than nine million Americans have signed up for private health insurance or Medicaid coverage," Obama said in the State of the Union speech. Gendarmes in northern France are on the trail of a “gang des hortensias” (hydrangea gang) they believe has made off with the popular ornamental flowers from dozens of gardens to smoke them as a cheap, legal alternative to cannabis. Last month, residents of the small village of Hucqueliers in the Pas-de-Calais area were dismayed to discover their prize hydrangea

When a locomotive crashes, it stops. Obamacare, on the other hand, just keeps on going like a cancer that’s ignored, perpetuating itself and destroying everything in its path. While we thought the health care act was a train wreck, it’s more like cancer. Discovering you’ve got a problem should be the first step on the road to recovery. You’re supposed to go in and confront it like you would if you found a tumor. You wouldn’t just leave it there, wondering what it was up to, hoping it would go away on its own. No, you’d enlist some help and take

Washington - Americans overwhelmingly favor a bill that would give most undocumented immigrants a pathway towards citizenship, according to a new national poll. And a CNN/ORC International survey also indicates that a majority of the public says that the government´s main focus should be legalizing the status of the undocumented rather than border security. The poll was released Thursday, the same day that House Speaker John Boehner signaled any action on immigration is unlikely this year because House Republicans don't trust President Barack Obama on the issue. A private girls´ school in Northern California wanted to incorporate Black History Month into lunch time, so it decided to serve fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread. As the Associated Press reports, school officials are apologizing because that was a really, really horrible idea. The school´s principal wrote a letter to parents, who were offended, and said the school doesn´t "perpetrate racial stereotypes." Unfortunately, that´s exactly what they did. In honor of Black History Month, we´d like to explain exactly why your fried chicken and watermelon lunch is ill-advised, with the hope that people will find better ways to honor this

AUSTIN, Texas — The Wild West tradition of openly carrying your six-shooter on the street has long been banned in Texas under state law. But the next governor could change that. Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed "open carry" law. It would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to wear a pistol on their hip, in full view, while in public. Davis has said she supports expanding gun rights in Texas. In a statement to The Associated Press, she said that includes open-carry — a position that puts her at

There´s been a lot of blathering about who the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is, and so far I´ve resisted taking part. But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. He brokered a budget deal with Patty Murray that was businesslike and low-drama but didn´t alienate the tea

This is either a glaring admission of defeat from the White House or… no, that’s really all it could be. After weeks of defending the cancellation of health plans insurers discontinued in 2013 in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act’s coverage mandates, the White House announced in November of last year that it was urging insurers to reinstate those plans. The catch was, of course, that most insurers would be unable to turn on a dime and reinstate those plans. Furthermore, the administration allowed individual states leeway to determine whether or not they would even allow insurers to reinstate
