Boehner’s Gambit
National Review Online, by Robert Costa

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 12/19/2012 1:25:24 PM

On Tuesday, Speaker John Boehner unveiled “Plan B,” his latest fiscal-cliff proposal, but few lawmakers expect the plan to be signed into law. Instead, the move is seen as part of Boehner’s larger strategy as he negotiates a final agreement with President Barack Obama. In short, Boehner wants the president to raise his threshold for tax-rate increases. At the moment, Obama has offered to make the threshold $400,000 — tax rates would be kept the same if you make less than $400,000, but increased if your income is above that mark. Boehner thinks that number is far too low.

Comments:
Grover Norquist has advised that a vote for Plan B is not a violation of the tax pledge some have signed.

Even a million would kill small businesses. The LPs in the alphabet networks and Fox still kinda accidentally forget to mention this in their ´reporting´ on this matter.

It is my opinion that no matter what the result of these negotiations is, the economy is going to tank in the next two years. Boehner´s Gambit may be part of a process to make sure that the Democrats own the failing economy.

It´s all show, and no go. Boehner will roll over and play dead in about a week. There will be no cuts in spending, and the upper echelon of our citizens will see their taxes escalate.

It is what the Elite want. Too bad we did not elect Sarah Palin. She has a history of stomping the Elite into the ground.

If the negotiations go on, there are going to extensions the Payroll Tax Holiday, some of Obama´s Low Earned Income Credits, some lost deductions, and who knows what else. I really hate sacrificing any taxpayers to the wolves out of ´expediency´. Abdication of the House control on spending would be unforgivable. It would better that we have a real lesson of how hurtful big government can be. Let everyone´s rate go up and lets see how supportive the People are.

So Obama admits that his original proposal would kill the economy, hmm?

I hope Boehner knows how to answer back to Obama´s snotty insults.

Boner is going to give up, and reach across the isle even though he has the majority and the purse strings. What a blooming idiot, probably going to go cry now because no one listens to him! We don´t have a budget, and haven´t had one for 4 years, and yet he does nothing. Just stop the governement until a budget is passed and make sure no tax increases and cut spending to bring the bottom line back into control. If I ran my house hold accounts like the government does I would be thrown in jail and the key locked away.... Maybe the same should happen to all our representatives

A video in which an Egyptian woman accuses President Barack Obama of interfering in Egyptian politics has gone so viral in the Middle East, it has inspired knockoffs, photoshopped spoofs and even T-shirts. Normally, I post partial transcripts with videos, but not this time; didn’t want to steal this angry woman’s thunder. Although, here’s a hint: were the video to have an official title, it would undoubtedly be called: “Shut up your mouth, Obama” In any event, this woman’s probably just a “racist.” Although to be fair, Obama did intervene in her nation’s politics to back Morsi, who turned out to be a

It seems a long time ago, that dreadful December night in 1988 when fire and aeroplane debris rained down on the Scottish village of Lockerbie. A generation of Britons has been born unaware of the sense of foreboding we all felt that night, when news broke that a civilian passenger flight had been blown up in mid-air, killing 270 people, by a terrorist bomb concealed in a radio cassette player. It is easy to see why a younger generation finds it hard to understand that we need to be wary of Iran and its nuclear ambitions. But, back in 1988, few

President Barack Obama would veto a GOP-drafted bill that would allow legislators to take agency officials to court if they don’t enforce laws, according to a White House statement. The GOP is pushing the bill through the House because Obama has repeatedly declined to enforce laws he doesn’t like, say GOP legislators. “President Obama has refused to enforce those parts of our nation’s immigration laws that are not to his political liking, has waived portions of our welfare laws, has stretched our environmental laws to accommodate his policy objectives, and has waived testing accountability provisions required under the ‘No Child Left Behind’

Field Museum research assistant Josh Engel has spent a couple days this week along the lakefront performing the grim task of collecting dead waterfowl. They haven’t been difficult to find. Engel and his Field Museum colleagues collected 30 of the birds that had died close to shore, most of them red-breasted merganser and white-winged scoter ducks. Some were floating and others were sealed in ice; all of them were emaciated. “It’s sort of hard to go out and see — you can practically see them dying,” said Engel, who is also an ornithologist. Something potentially sinister is happening across America, and we should stop and take notice before it changes the character of our country forever. County, city and small-town police departments across the country are now acquiring free military-grade weapons that could possibly be used against the very citizens and taxpayers that not only fund their departments but who the police are charged with protecting. Recently in a small, sleepy North Carolina town of roughly 16,000 people, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department acquired some Humvees and Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected vehicles (or MRAPs), which it proudly displayed at a recent car show. The United States, like almost all English-speaking countries, has a two-party political system. That means we have big-tent parties, with a variety of competing political strains under each of the two tents. In other countries, such as Italy and Israel, they have small-tent parties, far more ideologically unified and, indeed, often based on a single political idea. (Snip)The recent CPAC conference certainly displayed a variety of political opinions under the Republican tent, from Rick Perry’s clarion call to unleash the genius of American enterprise, to Chris Christie’s moderate approach, to Rick Santorum’s down-the-line social conservatism, to Rand Paul’s libertarian concern

On economic policy, President Obama has consistently and thoroughly followed just the opposite of everything Reagan did. And that is why he has consistently and thoroughly gotten the opposite of Reagan’s results. Reagan slashed tax rates, with the top income tax rate reduced from 70% when he entered office to 28% when he left. (Federal tax revenues doubled during the 1980s.) Early in his first year, Reagan led Congress to cut federal spending by nearly 5%. Early in his first year, Obama led Congress to enact nearly $1 trillion in utterly wasted “stimulus” spending. House Republicans have a worthy suggestion to protect Ukraine and increase the West’s leverage there: Deregulate American energy production and encourage oil and gas exports. The Department of Energy has been reluctant and slow to approve permits for shipping natural gas overseas, for instance, which the market demands from the U.S. for the first time. Crude-oil exports remain illegal. Energy production on federally owned lands has been dropping. A plan to address all of these issues and more can’t be expected to shift the balance of power in Eurasia — but its economic benefits should have compelled us to start

Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease.
