| During a press conference in the White House on Wednesday to announce a commission which will recommend measures to be taken to avoid future massacres like what happened in Newtown, President Barack Obama was cornered by ABC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Jake Tapper regarding his newfound sense of urgency in addressing gun violence. “Where’ve you been,” Tapper asked. “I’ve been President of the United States,” Obama replied. “It seems to a lot of observers that you made the political calculation in 2008, in your first term, and in 2012 not to talk about gun violence,” Tapper said.

Everything Obama said in that quasi-press conference was couched in the language of conflict, confrontation, and revenge. Read the transcript (to quote The Won). Even his answer to Tapper was skewed -- and what he said would give the impression that he had successfully dealt with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Cyprus postponed for yet another day an emergency parliamentary session to discuss a bailout plan that will see the country´s bank depositors share part of the burden, the house speaker said Monday. The Cypriot parliament is now scheduled to meet Tuesday at 1600 GMT, house speaker Yannakis Omirou told reporters. The parliament had been due to meet Monday at 1400 GMT as the government sought to push the levy through parliament before banks reopened Tuesday after a three-day bank holiday. The vote delay means that the bank holiday will likely be extended for at least another day.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs.
