Dianne Feinstein, who is poised to have a powerful new role as the head of the Senate committee overseeing gun laws.Calls for federal gun restrictions were mounting following last week´s shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. — even from lawmakers who had rejected them in the past. The NRA has little to do with millions of Americans personally committed to the 2nd amendment,so even if th egun lobby itself is weakened you still have millions of gun loving Americans with their eye on other politician.the left is getting too giddy over the demise of the NRA.
I don´t think Obama is a devout gun grabber but what people are afraid of is he buckles to left wing sub groups all the time.

Join the NRA to show your support for the Constitution, even if you have no intention of ever becoming a gun owner. Let your NRA membership card become the new ID of patriotic Americans.

The "Los Angeles Times" once again reporting its political beliefs, instead of reporting events factually and providing thoughtful analysis. How can we tell how much they report as "news" is true, and how much is merely their religious belief system spun another way?

This should always be framed with reference to the Constitution and what was happening at the time of its writing. The Patriots fighting the British had state of the art military grade rifles. The Kentucky sharp shooters had long barreled rifles and could take out the British before the British could get in range to fire accurately.
I see the Second Ammendment as guaranteeing the individual right to own state of the art military grade rifles, like our founders.

In 1975, when asked to explain why Margaret Thatcher was poised to take over the Tory Party, the irascible British satirist Malcolm Muggeridge replied that it was all due to television and the fact that the telegenic Thatcher had a "certain imbecile charm." That was one of the nicer things said about an "imbecile" who earned a degree in chemistry from Oxford and passed the bar while studying law at home.

Two New York Times columnists embarrassed themselves over the weekend, betraying anti-gun ignorance in the paper´s Sunday Review.Frank Bruni went hunting for the first time (with the chef of a ritzy Manhattan restaurant), and remarked "what an unfair fight" hunting is, as if he was the first person to think that up. After lamenting "how thoroughly a weapon can be romanticized and fetishized," he pivoted to easy access to guns in "this country of ours." I could forget, when not aiming at a bird, to keep the gun pointed toward the sky or the ground.

WASHINGTON — President Obama may be tilting at windmills, but the wind is at his back. His latest eloquent speech on guns, inspired by the Sandy Hook massacre, came Monday amid doubts about gun control legislation passing Congress. For now, he looks weak up against the National Rifle Association, spending much of the speech simply pleading for opponents not to block votes

The Wall Street Journal has a big frontpage story today on the disability epidemic. It’s a good addendum to my column from last week. The unexpectedly large number of American workers who piled into the Social Security Administration’s disability program during the recession and its aftermath threatens to cost the economy tens of billions a year in lost wages and diminished tax revenues. Signs of the problem surfaced Friday, in a dismal jobs report that showed U.S. labor force participation rates falling last month to the lowest levels since 1979,

Articles in a series on Mashable.com called “What’s Inside” looked for all the world like the hundreds of other articles on the digital media site. But journalistically, they were something very different. The articles, about technology topics in a wide variety of products, including modems and the Hubble Space Telescope, were paid for by Snapdragon, a brand of processor chip made by Qualcomm, and the sponsor of the series. Most were even written by Mashable editorial employees.

By any observable metric, zombies are totally hot right now. Look at movies like "Warm Bodies" and the coming "World War Z," the ratings for AMC´s hit series "The Walking Dead" (12.9 million viewers for its recent season finale) and $2.5 billion in annual sales for zombie videogames. Over the past decade, between a third and a half of all zombie movies ever made have been released. A glance at Google GOOG -1.51%Trends reveals that in the past few years, interest in flesh-eating ghouls has far outstripped popular enthusiasm for vampires, wizards and hobbits.

J. David Kuo, an evangelical Christian conservative and former top official of President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative who drew wide attention when he publicly accused the administration of failing to live up to the values it espoused, died April 5 in Charlotte. He was 44.He was diagnosed a decade ago with brain cancer, his wife, Kimberly, said. The arc of Mr. Kuo’s life and career had taken him from liberal to conservative, from hard-edged Republican activism in the 1990s to disillusionment with the idea that politics could serve as an extension of his faith. This country is an embarrassment. We can’t do anything right, least of all corruption. Look, when Venezuela’s populist demagogue Hugo Chavez died, word was he’d somehow accumulated an estate worth $2 billion. In the old days when the PRI party ruled Mexico uninterruptedly, every president got a single six-year term — and promptly retired at its close as a billionaire. And that was when a billion was real money.

Like most of you, I yearn for shorter winters, more shirt-sleeve weather, less lashing from frigid winds. As a confirmed New Yorker, I’m not willing to do what millions have done: move to the sunbelt. I want warmer weather here in the Big City. But I’ve grown old waiting for the promised global warming. I was 35 when predictions of a looming ice age were supplanted by warmmongering. Now I’m 68, and there’s still no sign of warmer weather. It’s enough to make one doubt the “settled science” of the government-funded doom-sayers.

In a measure of solidarity with those affected by the budget-slashing government sequestration, President Obama is giving up 5 percent of his salary for rest of the year, which is almost as admirable and sensible as a mansion-owner shutting off his marble fountains during a drought. This is not to imply that the president shouldn´t demonstrate some unity with those who´ve been furloughed or lost work because of the blind slashing the sequestration prompted. People like Jeff Maryak, profiled by BuzzFeed, who is considering re-enlisting to make ends meet after a 27 percent pay cut.

China continued moving tanks and armored vehicles and flying flights near North Korea this week as part of a military buildup in the northeastern part of the country that U.S. officials say is related to the crisis with North Korea. The Obama administration, meanwhile, sought to play down the Chinese military buildup along the border with Beijing’s fraternal communist ally despite the growing danger of conflict following unprecedented threats by Pyongyang to attack the United States and South Korea with nuclear weapons.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Information detailing what happened before, during and Headline corrected.
