Rick Perry: Teachers should

NBC News, by Clare Kim

Former Republican presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry said Monday that anyone with a concealed handgun license in Texas should be able to take guns "anywhere" on public property–including schools. The debate triggered by last Friday’s shooting in Newtown has largely broken down into two sides: those who say tighter gun control would’ve made the town’s children safer, and those who believe that arming the school principal and teachers might have stopped the gunman before he could kill 26 people. At a Tea Party event Monday, former Republican presidential candidate and Texas Governor Rick Perry became the highest-profile

Disagree # 6.

Our neighborhood HS has 4 long wings. The Resource Officer may be accross campus when a bad guy goes in the end door and wipes out a classroom in 30 seconds.

Will not work. Deranged minds would not care if there is a cop on campus.

Require interested, volunteer teachers to obtain a concealed carry permit with additional training specifically related to engaging a shooter. Boost their pay for the additional responsibility.

A sweet little old grade school teacher could become a formidable mother hen and an angry brood of half a dozen could quickly take down a campus intruder. Teachers have a special bond with their students and will not hesitate to defend them if allowed.

Well, the anti-gun liberals probably can´t. They can hide with the kids.

I think that schools should be entered only through manned gates, which have "dead man" switches to sound an alarm in case the gate house employees are injured or worse.

Additionally every individual set of perhaps four classrooms within a school should have one "safe room" secured so that the children can be kept safe during any emergency.

#6, you didn´t have the elementary school teachers I had. Nor did you have my mother, who taught 1st through 8th grade in her 40 or so years of teaching. She was one tough old girl. She had a paddle swing Josh Hamilton would have envied, and she´d have dropped you in your tracks with absolutely no regret if you posed a threat to one of her kids. She´s 86 now and can walk only with great difficulty. But she still lives in her own home with her first husband (91 now) and there´s a loaded 12 gauge pump right behind their recliners.

#6, are you trying to state that teachers cannot be trained?

The easiest, fastest, most economical way to defend against lunatics that want to kill our kids is with an armed teacher staff. It would only take a few of the teachers to be "packing", so it would be totally voluntary training. They would be the well-trained militia at our schools.

Liberals will never understand this, due to their lack of logic, common sense, and analytical abilities.

Said shootouts have utterly failed to materialize.

Perhaps ordinary citizens ARE far more intelligent and responsible than Democrats and their corrupt Media Moutpieces make us out to be.

Why are these mass murders always in "gun-free zones?"

Why do these mass murderers never attack police stations?

I don´t think anybody´s in favor of teachers getting guns willy nilly. You not only have to be trained on the mechanics of a gun but you have to have the personal make up to stay cool under the worst kind of pressure. Most teachers aren´t cut out for that, especially in blue states.

You have a lot of people running around walking a tightrope between reality and fantasy and all it takes is a tipping point issue for them to snap.

I think the culture of school bullying causes a lot of internal rage among picked on kids and the school system has been wholly inadequate at dealing with bullies, especially with the southern poverty center keeping a scorecard on what races at being hardest hit with suspensions.

All government institutions live under the constant fear of lawsuits if something goes wrong,so they choose to do nothing instead.

There are worksites that encourage employees to enhance the safety of the workplace by choosing to become certified in First Aid, AED, and CPR. The employer pays for the training, during work hours, and provides a slight salary increase for those who remain current in their certification.

Why not apply this to employees who volunteer to carry a firearm at work, are certified(carry permit), and maintain that certification?

#19, a good last ditch tool for each room perhaps, but somewhat limited. 15 feet or so range and one or two chances, but certainly better than nothing and the non lethal aspect would jump the hurdle many school districts and parents might have about giving every teacher deadly force.

Funny how not much of the media is pointing to how Israel handles security in schools.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Trying to put Obamacare’s problems behind him, President Obama renewed his election-year push for an increase in the minimum wage Wednesday and the White House urged fellow Democrats to latch on to the issue for their own political gain. Speaking at the University of Michigan, the president again fiercely advocated for a rise in the nation’s minimum wage, trying to keep the issue front and center as the November midterm elections creep closer. “In America, we don’t believe in opportunity for a few — we believe that everybody should have a chance at success,” Mr. Obama

President Obama campaigned in Michigan with Dem Senate candidate Gary Peters, making the case for a hike in the federal minimum wage to $10.10. Unfortunately, the wrangling in the Senate today suggests the idea is going to die. Senator Susan Collins has said she’s trying to craft a bipartisan compromise on the minimum wage that could win Republican support — a compromise that would require hiking the minimum wage to an unspecified point below the $10.10 per hour that Obama and Democrats want. Today Harry Reid ruled out the idea, insisting that Dems won’t agree to anything below $10.10. In

THE SUPREME Court on Wednesday overturned yet another federal law meant to check corruption and influence-peddling in national politics. The ruling shows two things: The Roberts Court’s destructive view on these matters wasn’t changed by the backlash to its Citizens United holding, and Congress must respond by designing new rules that can pass the court’s overly skeptical review. If lawmakers tackle the issue forthrightly, they have some workable options. The court eliminated an overall limit on how much donors could give to candidates, parties and various other committees over the course of an election cycle. The idea had been to

The White House is claiming that President Obama’s celebratory speech this afternoon in the Rose Garden was not a “victory lap” but it was clear to everyone who watched the address that it was more of a touchdown dance than a sober evaluation of the implementation of his signature health care law. Given the mistake-filled rollout of ObamaCare, the fact that the numbers reported by the government indicated that it had exceeded the seven million goal that had been set as the goal for the open enrollment period, the administration felt it had good reason to spike the ball and
