Russia may ease Muslim Brotherhood
ban to boost Egypt ties

Russia may ease restrictions on the Muslim Brotherhood soon to improve relations with Egypt and rebuild influence lost during the Arab Spring revolutions, diplomatic sources say. (Snip) Easing restrictions on the Muslim Brotherhood would follow a similar move by the United States, which tweaked its ban on formal contacts with the Islamist group, banned under Mubarak, early in 2012. Mursi is expected to visit Washington in 2013 for the first time since his election in June. Western diplomatic sources say Mursi also accepted an invitation to visit Russia when Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Egypt

Comments:
0bama once again deals with "another devil," the Muslim Brotherhood. This means that they will, if not already, be getting Billions [our tax money as we fall off the "fical cliff"] in foreign aid from US. And, what do you think they will spend their new money on? Weapons to embolden their terrorist organizations.

We´re going to have to come to grips with some very unpleasant facts. The Muslim Brotherhood, as bad as they are, seem tame compared to some of the militant salafist groups popping up. Led by extremists that were locked up by Mubarak and Gaddafi. In Egypt one of the leaders is Mohamed al-Zawahiri, brother to Ayman, head of al qaeda. Mohamed wants the US to leave the ME completely, allow sharia law to take over and wipe Israel off the map. Mohamed was one of the leaders of the Egyptian embassy protests on 9/11. His group was protesting the fact the Brotherhood was too moderate. There are no good options left in this part of the world. That´s Obama´s legacy, the destruction of secular regimes in the Middle East.

Chicago - In a ruling that could revolutionize college sports, a federal agency has given football players at Northwestern University the green light to unionize. Wednesday´s landmark ruling by a regional director of National Labor Relations Board means the players are deemed employees under federal law and so can create the nation´s first college athletes´ union. Union lawyers argued the Big Ten school´s football players are part of a commercial enterprise that generates hefty profits through their labor. The NCAA, Big Ten Conference and the private school vehemently opposed the union drive. Northwestern argued that college athletes are

Washington - House Republicans complain the Obama administration is refusing to turn over documents related to enforcing environmental laws at wind farms where dozens of eagles and other protected birds have been killed. Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington says the Fish and Wildlife Service has engaged in a "deliberate slow rolling of documents and answers" for nearly a year. Hastings is the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee. The agency´s director, Dan Ashe, said Wednesday that he and his staff have made "super-human efforts" to fulfill the committee´s request, but that the volume of documents sought and

Former president Jimmy Carter (D) said Wednesday that he would consider pardoning Edward Snowden if he returned to the United States and was convicted and sentenced, but acknowledged he doesn´t have enough information to judge how much damage the former National Security Agency contractor has done to U.S. national security interests. "If he was found guilty and sentenced to death, I would certainly consider pardon," Carter said. But, Carter added that he doesn´t have "the information President Obama has about what damage has been done to our security apparatus." When asked whether he would pardon Snowden

NASA Pays Russians $71 Million to

NASA is forced to pay the Russians nearly $71 million to send an American astronaut into space. The Wire reports: Early tomorrow morning, NASA astronaut Steve Swanson will hitch a ride to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, costing the federal agency a cool $70.7 million that will surely end up in the Kremlin’s coffers. So you can understand get why they’re not taking this whole Western sanctions thing so seriously. Swanson will join cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Oleg Artemyev on the journey, which will deliver to them to the ISS.

Here we go again. Lacking any control of the House schedule, Democrats have tried twice unsuccessfully in the past six months to use a discharge petition to force a vote on legislation they support. A discharge petition is a procedural tactic that allows an absolute majority of the House of Representatives (218 lawmakers) to force a floor vote on a bill, even if leaders who control the House floor oppose the measure. Successful use of discharge petitions conceivably could help the minority party hijack the majority party´s legislative agenda. But they rarely work, as Democrats have learned twice in the past six months.

Simferopol, Crimea - Within days of Crimea being swallowed up by Russia, the lights began flickering out. Officials in the peninsula accused Ukraine of halving electricity supplies in order to bully Crimea, which voted earlier this month in a referendum to secede and join Russia. "Cutting supplies is an attempt by Kiev to blackmail Russia through Crimea," Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov wrote on his Twitter account. Aksyonov´s combative reaction reflects a sobering reality for Crimea: the strategic peninsula´s overwhelming reliance on electricity and water supplies from mainland Ukraine. Berlin - Air France says a plane carrying 495 passengers and 22 crew was diverted on its way from Shanghai to Paris after Russia announced at short notice that part of its airspace was closed for a military exercise. The company said flight AF111 was forced to land in Hamburg, Germany, early Wednesday to refuel because the plane had too little fuel on board to complete the flight following its detour. Hamburg Airport confirmed that the plane landed shortly after 6 a.m. (0500 GMT) and was able to take off for Paris again after an hour and a half. It wasn't immediately clear if Russia's military exercise was linked to the increased troop activity on its

Back in 2001, during a press conference on ballistic missile defense, then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld tried to explain the relative ease of procuring certain weapon technologies, and the danger that might pose to the United States. [W]ith the end of the Cold War and the relaxation of tension in the world, we’ve seen that proliferation of these technologies is pervasive. And that means that a trained ape can figure out that over the coming period, more people are going to have exceedingly powerful weapons, weapons more powerful than ever in the history of the world, biological weapons, nuclear weapons, chemical weapons.

Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Transport Hishammuddin Hussein said the satellite images were taken on March 23. He said objects ranged from 1m to 23m in length, and some were brightly coloured. Malaysian authorities say they have received new satellite images of a possible debris field. Mr Hussein said they received new satellite images from France yesterday. “Australia, China and France have already released satellite images showing objects that may be related to MH370,”

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has said that ´a trained ape´ could do a better job managing American interests in Afghanistan than President Obama. The retired Republican made the insult while doing a phone-in interview for Greta Van Susteren´s Fox News show on Tuesday. He argued that the President made a serious error by failing to negotiate a status forces agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Gawker points out that such an agreement would effectively commit the United States to having a certain number of troops in the country for a number of years beyond the already-agreed-upon plan which

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company
