| The tragic mass killings at that Connecticut school will undoubtedly spur renewed calls for gun control. According to one criminologist, that would be a welcome but somewhat ironic development, since mass school shootings seldom provide compelling evidence in favor of more restrictions on weapons. The liberal Democrats, the Progressives, and their allies in the anti-gun movement could care less about what surveys say about guns.
We are in an extreme period of national emotion right now after the school shooting in Connecticut. They believe that now is the time for them to push through an overreaching gun control law banning all semi-automatic rifles and handguns that can possibly utilize a clip or magazine holding more then 10 rounds of ammunition by defining those guns as being "assault weapons". In order to be successful they are going to have to move fast in the lame duck Congress to get their so-called "comprehensive" gun control bill through before the smoke clears and logic and reality come back into vogue. No matter what gun control passes the Congress Obama will sign it, thus taking certain rights away from hundreds of millions of law abiding Americans because of the criminal actions of a crazy man.
This is another instance of elections having consequences. All those conservatives who sat at home rather then vote for a Mormon just gave the gun control crowd an opening that they have been seeking for a long time.
