| David Maraniss is an associate editor at the Washington Post and a high-powered biographer. Below is a jaw-dropping look at Mr. Maraniss´ seeming inability to put history into some kind of context when it comes to one of his own biographical subjects, President Obama: (Snip) While President Obama´s speech from last night has been praised by both right and left… The Gettysburg Address? And again, this isn’t coming from some Obama groupie at MSNBC. Maraniss is a respected "historian," someone who writes the first draft of our history when it comes to contemporary politicians like Obama and

The Gettysburg Address commemorated brave soldiers who died in the service of their country, in the worst crisis this country has seen. It was appropriate for the President to give this address. The Newtown shooting, sad as it was, was not an historical event. But perhaps it is appropriate that this miniature, manufactured president has his moment at a miniature, manufactured national crisis.

The President’s Newtown Connecticut speech was the speech of a hypocrite. Why? The President spoke with great emotion about our first responsibility as a nation is to protect our kids -- keep them safe and secure. BUT, when a Michigan Union thug threatened that union members would be at Governor Snyder’s daughter’s soccer games because the governor signed Right-to-Work legislation-- that was a threat against “one of our children.” So – WHY didn’t the President condemn it? And if the President is so anti-violence, why didn’t he condemn the politician whose response to Michigan’s Right-To-Wok Law was – “Blood will flow in the streets.” Political expediency? Perhaps. (Silence does gives consent to union violence to solidify union votes while pretty words of compassion in Connecticut woo white suburban votes.) I’m too cynical you say? Well, where is your voice condemning the threat of blood flowing in the streets and intimidating a governor by threatening his daughter. I can’t hear you.

Personally, while I DID think the President should acknowledge the tragedy and sympathize with all the sorrow, the fact that he went on and on and brought all the confusion of a Presidential visit to that poor grieving town, was somehow "intrusive" to me.
If I have lost a child or a loved one, I may want my friends and my Minister, but a motormouth politician from ANY party can just stay away.
I will admit my distaste for the President makes me a biased observer, and I will give him the benefit of the doubt only because who the heck would know WHAT to do in such a horrible situation. With that said...going on for a long time seems selfish and NOT respectful of the gravity of the sorrow in that community. It´s NOT about Barack !

Move over, Abe Lincoln and Gettysburg, Obama reportedly (too many times) wrote his own speech - who would have thunk it?.
Did he write it on an envelope in Marine One while flying to Connecticut? Will future students have to memorize Obama´s Sandy Hook Address?
pResident Obama has done nothing but lie and lie some more since he first came on the scene at the demo convention. He has not earned any one´s trust in even the most trivial matters.
Call me cynical, or whatever you like, but I do not believe for one minute the tear in the eye or the pause for composure - all in the script.
I will throw down the gauntlet! Obama, if you want to be considered sincerely concerned about the welfare of Sandy Hook´s precious children, call off your 4 million dollar (re Huffington Post) Christmas trip to Hawaii and donate the money to start a fund to raze the school involved and build a new one for all those traumatized children.
Two things to consider: One, it´s not your money to start with, and Two, the Amish in Pennsylvania saw the "rightness" of this and did this quickly and without any goading from anybody.
How about it, Obozo??

Less than five minutes of listening to O last night was all I could take. To me he was insincere and cold with very little emotion (typical)- very obvious he was reading words written by others. I personally don´t think he should have been there; when one of my children died the only people we wanted to be with us were those who loved our family and our minister.

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
