President Obama’s speech

Newtown shooting victims
(Full transcript)

Washington Post, by Staff

Full transcript of President Obama’s remarks at a Dec. 16 prayer vigil for victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. OBAMA: Thank you. Thank you, Governor. To all the families, first responders, to the community of Newtown, clergy, guests, scripture tells us, “Do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly, we are being renewed day by day. “For light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all, so we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen

We can’t tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change.

Sorry, I don´t believe Obama is sincere. I´ve seen enough to know that this man doesn´t care about anyone but himself and what he can do for his "political" career....

This man is an advocate for infanticide, as well as being responsible for arming Mexico´s drug cartels.

He doesn´t give a damn about "the children" beyond the fact that he can hide behind their corpses to continue his attacks on our Constitutional rights.

He ought to leave them alone but instead he can´t resist being the center of attention.

I watched the speech. One has to admit, he is a very smooth liar. Obama quoting the Bible is preposterous. Obviously didn´t write the speech. It is well known, even among his supporters, he is a pathological narcissist. So why did he get elected and re-elected? Because: "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." Turns out you can fool 50.1% all the time.

Oh, please forgive me, but the off-handed manner in which President Obama delivered his poorly prepared and disjointed speech made me cringe throughout.

The Speech: “Um, things have got to change. I’ve seen too much of this. Scripture says, um…. You’re not the only ones hurting – I’m hurting. I’m President. I’m going to change things. I come to offer love and prayers. We can’t take care of our own children – we need a nation. God said something about this, um… Change. We can do better. I’m doing change – no politics, but I’m changing things – I’m going to use all of my power. Um, most religions ask why are we here? If we teach our children, we know it’s right (or it’s not wrong or something). As a nation, um... God bless everyone.”

Leaves podium; walks off stage; talks to woman; walks back on stage; pauses on stage and waves; walks off through curtains. Standing ovation. The end.

In the words of the President, “we can do better”.

Sorry. Long ago --- very long ago --- ceased to believe that Obama has a guileless or sincere bone in his body. I certainly do watch his speeches to see what he´s up to and what his angle is each time, and there always is an angle, a purpose. And he is the master of the rhetorical feint, the straw man, the false choice and the Big Lie. Like so many, I´m on to him, and know that with him, without exception, EVERYTHING political and purposeful.
Touched by that speech tonight? Of course not.

The State Department has evacuated some diplomats in Tripoli due to growing demonstrations against the government. The Pentagon says it has troops in the region on alert in case they are needed to "evacuate" personnel. Washington Post: The protests that have spread in Libya over the past week stem largely from the passage of a law that bars from public office officials who served in key roles under the deposed Libyan regime of Moammar Gaddafi. There is no indication so far that the demonstrators are targeting Westerners.

CIA director David Petraeus was surprised when he read the freshly rewritten talking points an aide had emailed him in the early afternoon of Saturday, September 15. One day earlier, analysts with the CIA’s Office of Terrorism Analysis had drafted a set of unclassified talking points policymakers could use to discuss the attacks in Benghazi, Libya. But this new version?—?produced with input from senior Obama administration policymakers?—?was a shadow of the original. The original CIA talking points had been blunt: The assault on U.S. facilities in Benghazi was a terrorist attack conducted by a large group

This morning, an IRS official named Lois Lerner apologized for inappropriately targeting non-profit groups for scrutiny in 2012 based on the fact that they had the words “Tea Party” or “Patriot” in their names. There are many things that need to be said about this. First, and simplest, is to ask how seriously the Obama administration is going to take this outrageous effort at political suppression by an agency under its charge. Has the IRS inspector general gotten involved? Has a U.S. attorney been apprised of this matter, which can only be considered an act of political intimidation and therefore

Do not underestimate the significance: the Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory. Out of the blue, the Internal Revenue Service has apologized for targeting conservative groups with "tea party" or "patriot" in their titles for special treatment in applying for tax exempt nonprofit organization status. Stephen Ohlemacher of AP reports: The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. IRS agents singled out dozens of organizations for additional reviews because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot"

You got the sense today that the White House’s propaganda arm is starting to play Benghazi very, very carefully. Up until now they’ve been able to get by fairly easily on the fact that most of the relevant evidence is on the other side of executive privilege, or in the hands of politically appointed loyalists, and on the White House Press Corps’ indifference. But Greg Hicks might have been the first leak in the dam. Plenty of reporters are happy to trade narrative management for access, but fewer are willing to be made to look like fools

As a presidential speech writer for the first Bush White House, I am always very interested in what presidents say in their formal speeches. They know, of course, that their remarks will be widely covered by the press, studied by analysts, and influential in contemporary political debates. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. Their graduation speeches, like all presidential addresses, go through many drafts and are reviewed by high-level administration officials
