I understand that Mr. Lanza is grieving for his son, and for what his son did. But be aware that we will never know the real truth, because it is in Mr. Lanza´s best interest to claim ignorance.

I don´t think it would be in the family´s purview to authorize anything or not, #1, considering that Adam Lanza is a known murderer. I should think the state would order said tests as part of closing the case.

At an after-hours hacking event at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, Wash., Aaron Ginn approached an engineer whose face was buried in a laptop. Like more than a few techies, Mr. Ginn could pass for a skateboarder or a member of a boy band: As he circulated, he wore a red Reebok cap, its bill tilted high over his short dark hair, a silver and black cross around his neck and a green T-shirt printed with “Lincoln Labs.” That’s the name of the talent-scouting group he founded last year with two friends. But unlike others in this game, Mr. Ginn was

Pollster John Zogby reports in our weekly White House report card that President Obama´s numbers are mixed, both in approval rating and right-direction, wrong-direction. "I am a numbers guy and the numbers are mixed. Troubling for Obama is that so few Americans feel the U.S. is headed in the right direction (29 percent average) and that the stock market is falling. This could be the inevitable correction and the obvious impact of the Fed´s tapering. “He is also still upside down in public opinion toward Obamacare, though the gap between supporters and opponents is not really widening. “On the flip

NBC didn’t air the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs choir covering“Get Lucky” or T.a.T.u’s defiantly gay-friendly performance. But Friday night’s telecast of the opening ceremony for the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi was an enthralling, if occasionally odd, swirl of East and West, old and new, strange and familiar. It was also a showcase for the increasingly aggrieved political subtext that threatens to overshadow the Games. All early coverage has been couched repeatedly in pejorative — for Russia’s anti-gay laws, the expense of the facilities and shoddiness of accommodations; for the arrogance of the president and the joylessness of the

President Obama said Saturday that he’s doing everything he can to reduce income inequality in America. In his weekly address, Mr. Obama said too many Americans haven’t seen increases in their wages, while the wealthy “are doing better than ever.” “We’ve got to reverse those trends,” Mr. Obama said. “We’ve got to build an economy that works for everyone, not just a fortunate few.” Toward his goal, the president noted that he’s taken steps through executive action in recent weeks to boost job training, to guarantee every child has access to quality education, and to boost income and retirement savings.

One of Miami Beach´s most notorious pieces of real estate is back on the block: the asking price is almost $8.5 million. The sprawling, waterfront compound is where notorious Chicago gangster Al Capone died after being released from Alcatraz and is said to have plotted the St. Valentine´s day massacre in 1929. The 10,000-square-foot baby blue mansion sits on exclusive Palm Island, sandwiched in Biscayne Bay between downtown Miami´s skyscrapers and South Beach´s hotel district. The current owner, a Florida company managed by New York accountant Anthony Panebianco, purchased the home barely six months ago for $7.4 million, according to

WASHINGTON--President Obama will travel to Fresno next week to highlight federal efforts aimed at helping farmers and others hit by a severe drought. A White House official said Obama will visit the Central Valley city Feb. 14. The White House already had announced Obama´s plans to meet with Jordan´s King Abdullah II at the Sunnylands estate near Palm Springs that day. Obama’s visit comes as interest on Capitol Hill in taking action to alleviate California’s water crisis grows. The Republican-controlled House passed a bill Wednesday dubbed a response to the drought, but the measure faces a White House veto threat.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is considering adopting new regulations for zoos at the request of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that would require “humane” treatment for bears. The proposed rules would mandate the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to hire a “bear expert,” prohibit bear pits, and require rules so bears are not “stressed, frustrated, and bored.” PETA, which killed 1,792 stray cats and dogs in 2013, first petitioned the USDA to adopt its rules in 2012. ABC´s Nightline threw a gratuitous punch at Sarah Palin in a story that had nothing to do with politics, either left or right. Rather, it was an investigation of violence into kids´ little league sports and the regrettable, all too common, angry attitudes of coaches and parents. He then showed a clip of the Will Ferrell kids´ sports comedy, Kicking and Screaming, then oddly segued to a clip of Sarah Palin. Referring to the film of

It is one of the most common - albeit, ineptly used - elements of the English language. Now, an American academic has suggested that the comma could be abolished as a punctuation mark. Professor John McWhorter claims removing commas from most modern U.S. texts would cause ´little loss of clarity´ - meaning they may now be in a state of obsolescence. He adds that internet users are becoming increasingly carefree in their use of the punctuation mark - with some professional writers following suit, according to The Times. ´[You] could take them out of a great deal of modern American

TWENTY-ONE years ago, when I first heard Mia Farrow had accused me of child molestation, I found the idea so ludicrous I didn’t give it a second thought. We were involved in a terribly acrimonious breakup, with great enmity between us and a custody battle slowly gathering energy. The self-serving transparency of her malevolence seemed so obvious I didn’t even hire a lawyer to defend myself. It was my show business attorney who told me she was bringing the accusation to the police and I would need a criminal lawyer. I naïvely thought the accusation would be dismissed out of hand because of course, I hadn’t molested Dylan

Appearing on MSNBC, former Secretary of State Colin Powell savaged the Republican Party of which he says he is still a member for catering to “elements” that are overtly hostile to people of other races or nationalities. Powell told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that there are groups within the GOP who “demonize people who don’t look like the way they’d like them to look.” He added that, for this reason, he believes the GOP needs him more than the Democratic Party needs him. Speaking with Mitchell about the need for immigration reform, Powell said that reforming the system was critical. “We are

A private girls´ school in Northern California wanted to incorporate Black History Month into lunch time, so it decided to serve fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread. As the Associated Press reports, school officials are apologizing because that was a really, really horrible idea. The school´s principal wrote a letter to parents, who were offended, and said the school doesn´t "perpetrate racial stereotypes." Unfortunately, that´s exactly what they did. In honor of Black History Month, we´d like to explain exactly why your fried chicken and watermelon lunch is ill-advised, with the hope that people will find better ways to honor this

Geraldo Rivera took on Bill O’Reilly Friday night over whether O’Reilly was disrespectful to President Obama in their big Super Bowl interview. Rivera gave O’Reilly some benefit of the doubt, but other than that thought O’Reilly was a bit too confrontational and didn’t give Obama the kind of respect a president normally deserves. Rivera argued it was less like an interview and more like a meeting of the minds with the “President of Most of the White Guys of America” (O’Reilly) against the president of the rest of the country, and told O’Reilly that it was out of line for him

There´s been a lot of blathering about who the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is, and so far I´ve resisted taking part. But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. He brokered a budget deal with Patty Murray that was businesslike and low-drama but didn´t alienate the tea
