The Rev. Gary Hall, dean of Washington National Cathedral, said he plans to use his sermons Sunday to address gun control, which the Episcopal Church strongly supports. National Cathedral officials announced that Hall will preach on the topic at the 8:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. services in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre , the second-deadliest shooting event in U.S. history. Comments: I thought liberals believed in strict separation of church/state issues above anything else?
I´ll see your Lanza lunatic and raise you with the Breivik Norway lunatic. Gun "control" cannot prevent calculating madness. So-called gun-free zones, containing defenseless innocents, draw such evil beings like pollen and nectar draw bees. Arm those teachers willing and able to carry. Arm those parishioners able to protect the congregations. Publicize such capabilities. The Rev. Gary Hall is a tool of enshrined evil!
If they were truly serious about gun control, they would go into the cities and get the ILLEGAL guns away from the gangs. Night after night, there are shootings in the inner cities, but nothing is done. The numbers of police officers are cut due to lack of funds because exorbitant union pensions and goobermint freeloaders come first. Existing laws are not enforced. So, just how serious are we about gun control. Oh, I see. The guns of the law-abiding citizens must be controlled, but not the criminals with the illegal guns.
The President who deliberately forced THOUSANDS of firearms into the hands of Mexico´s most murderous drug gangs....
....is going to lecture us all on "gun control."
Barack Obama and Eric Holder are accessories to murder in the deaths of over 300 Mexican citizens and two American law enforcement officers. They have absolutely NO moral high ground and NO credibility.
I thought the Obama Administration was already controlling guns. Didn´t they send them to Mexico? and to many of the Middle Eastern countries where rebellion after rebellion has been occurring using weapons furnished by the U>S> and other major players attempting to overthrow the Governments in place so that truly Democratic elections could ensue. Why have a Country whose Government is allied with the U.S. continue to exist when you can replace it with an Islamic Government which is an enemy of the U>S>.. That´s the Obama mantra. Note to the President -Sharia law is NOT democratic. But you knew that already. and terrorists do NOT discriminate when they create havoc. Everyone who does not believe as they do is an enemy.
Guns do not kill ; cars do not create accidents; forks do not make people overweight people do. There is a right and wrong does not matter all the social babbling you are still responsible for your deeds. Where life is not held to be of worth; ie abortion; what does that teach society? Where God is shut down and not allowed in the public square that states there is nothing here or after so just do whatever you please. This is the sad state of our country today.
Baloney! If the Principal, or any of the Teachers in that school had kept a gun in their desk drawer this guy would have been stopped before he could kill all of those children. Also, WHY were the school doors unlocked? In this day when there are Wackos like this guy out there ALL schools should be in lockdown during school hours. ALL students should go through security before entering the building. It´s come to that, but it works. There is no reason to blame GUNS. That is stupidity!
Since the schools and many churches no longer teach right from wrong, good vs. evil, students aren´t being taught what they need to know to become solid citizens.
No Pledge of Allegiance, of course; why, it refers to God, and we can´t have that. Video games that depict indescribable violence are never the problem either, natch. Hollywood films that depict extreme and unpunished violence are rarely blamed. Nor is blame laid at our inadequate mental health system, along with legal liability that makes people think twice before reporting clearly disturbed people to mental health professionals for assessment.
The problem always has to be the guns, and never the underlying societal decay.
I am so grateful that the notions of right and wrong were drummed into my head at school. The late Fifties and early Sixties weren´t so bad after all...
They used to detain crazy people so that they would not have the chance to indiscriminately murder innocent people. Now crazy people are deemed to have the right to wander around unsupervised, thus giving them the chance to indiscriminately murder innocent people before they can be detained, if they don´t take the easy way out and kill themselves as well.
First priority should be to change the AFT background protocols to ensure that crazy people cannot walk into gun stores and purchase firearms by lying on the ATF form that everyone must fill out that is the basis used to complete the background checks.
They must also stop using medical privacy laws to hide the fact that a person is mentally ill or that a person has been committed to a mental treatment facility from law enforcement.
The above will be hard to change, because mentally ill persons can vote in this country, and you can bet that most of them vote for liberal Democrats.
Therefore most liberal Democrats will never publicly admit that a perpetrator with a mental illness is just about always the cause of the about 20 mass shootings that occur in the USA each year.
A firearm does not have a vote, so it is safe in the short-term for liberal Democrats to demagogue the issue and fraudulently blame firearms. No doubt the liberal Democrats will now overreach in their efforts to enact new firearms control laws.
The title of Reverand is way over used. Many are just democrat party propagandists pushing the party agenda. The Reverands Jesse Jackson , Al Sharpton and Jeremiah Wright all use that title to great personal advantage and play the part well, complete with sweaty foreheads and flying spit. I suspect the DNC writes their sermons.
Churches are run by men, not gods. The Bible is interpreted by men, not gods. Even denominations that use the very same version of the very same Bible cannot agree on what it means. That´s why I do not attend church, and find the spiritual answers I need in the people and the world around me. My answers are probably righter than theirs.
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama´s decision to delay implementation of part of his healthcare reform law will cost $12 billion and leave a million fewer Americans with employer-sponsored health insurance in 2014, congressional researchers said Tuesday. The report by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office is the first authoritative estimate of the human and fiscal cost from the administration´s unexpected one-year delay announced July 2 of the employer mandate - a requirement for larger businesses to provide health coverage for their workers or pay a penalty. The analysts said the delay will add to the cost of "Obamacare´s" insurance-coverage

Fort Collins police have asked local religious organizations to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior after a self-proclaimed “Islamist jihadist” threatened Mormons and Catholics “would be destroyed” in the next two weeks, a memo sent by authorities said. (Snip) Rev. Steven Voss said the Archdiocese of Denver shared with him on Friday the Fort Collins Police Services memo and reading its words of caution made his “blood run cold.” But between Sunday Masses at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 300 W. American public discourse about Islam is filled with essentialist paranoia, fear, and the commentary of people who not only don´t know much about the topic but are often dismissive of people who do. But the reception that scholar Reza Aslan received on Fox last Friday was a new twist: Muslim views of Christianity are inherently suspect, it seems. Mr. Aslan, who has a PhD in the sociology of religion from UCSB and a masters in theological studies from Harvard, is promoting his new book "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth" and was on with Fox religion correspondent
PANTEGO, Texas - A swarm of about 30,000 bees attacked a North Texas couple as they exercised their miniature horses, stinging the animals so many times they died. Kristen Beauregard, 44, was stung about 200 times, and her boyfriend about 50 times, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday. But the horses, Chip and Trump, were so covered in bees they shimmered. Neither could be saved. "They were chasing us down, they were following us," Beauregard said of the incident Wednesday evening. "We swept up piles and piles of them ... it was like a bad movie." The bees are being tested
Barack Obama has given the strongest indication to date that he holds reservations about the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, saying the project would not create many jobs and could raise gasoline prices. (Snip) "Republicans have said that this would be a big jobs generator. There is no evidence that that´s true," Obama said in the interview. "The most realistic estimates are this might create maybe 2,000 jobs during the construction of the pipeline – which might take a year or two – and then after that we´re talking about somewhere between 50 and 100 jobs in a economy
A reported three million pilgrims packed Brazil´s Copacabana Beach to hear Pope Francis´ final Mass of his historic trip to his home continent. Overnight millions of pilgrims camped out on the famous stretch of beach. Such is the appeal of the new pope that some commenters noted that the new head of the Catholic church had ´rock star´ appeal - drawing more people to see him than the Rolling Stones did on their visit to the beach in 2006. Mick Jagger and his band drew a much reported one million fans. The pope who was attending

In the private sector, many workers are concerned about losing their employer-sponsored health insurance coverage, and being dumped into Obamacare’s subsidized insurance exchanges. Two weeks ago, representatives of three large labor unions fired off a harsh letter to Democratic leaders in Congress, complaining that Obamacare would “shatter…our hard-earned health benefits” and create “nightmare scenarios” for their members. Today, we learn that the National Treasury Employees Union—the union that includes employees of the Internal Revenue Service—is asking its members to write letters to their Congressmen , stating that they are “very concerned” about legislative efforts requiring IRS
The second juror to speak publicly said in an interview made available Thursday she feels George Zimmerman "got away with murder" for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, but that there wasn´t enough evidence at trial to convict him under Florida law. Martin´s mother, Sybrina Fulton, released a statement saying, "It is devastating for my family to hear the comments from juror B29, comments which we already knew in our hearts to be true. That George Zimmerman literally got away with murder. "This new information challenges our nation once again to do everything we can
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the

America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get
A group of experts advising the nation’s premier cancer research institution has recommended sweeping changes in the approach to cancer detection and treatment, including changes in the very definition of cancer and eliminating the word entirely from some common diagnoses. Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
